Bosom Manor is quite amusing but not really fitting for a row of 2 up 2 downs in Stoke I'd have thought.

Anyway, first thought here was somewhere mountainous like maybe Switzerland but I've checked the Lake Geneva cities and it doesn't appear to be any of them

or something, Thursday, 11 March 2021 17:41 (five years ago)

it looks pacific to me, id guess asia

himpathy with the devil (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 11 March 2021 18:19 (five years ago)

Looks like Japan maybe? Nagasaki?

Sokcho, South Korea. After scouring almost every coastal city on the Asian Pacific. First guess was way off, kudos to the above for pointing in right direction

or something, Friday, 12 March 2021 00:47 (five years ago)

I thought it was a lake so I spent some time looking at cities on lakes in Asia. For a little while I thought it might be Lake Suwa in Japan.

o. nate, Friday, 12 March 2021 02:15 (five years ago)

Sokcho it is, or 가슴 매너 as it is known locally

I fell way behind on this thread but the latest pic reminds me of KL. Where is our Malaysian contingent?

Presence was missed, the sleuthing on Cheboksary was exemplary

Indianapolis?

Bruno Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 12 March 2021 14:22 (five years ago)

It does look like a Midwestern river town.

o. nate, Friday, 12 March 2021 16:04 (five years ago)

Perth?

calzino, Friday, 12 March 2021 16:13 (five years ago)

Not the Scottish one that's for sure.

Wrote For Lunch (Tom D.), Friday, 12 March 2021 16:24 (five years ago)

I think I see an evergreen back there? reminds me of denver, but the terraced skyscraper in the bg isn't denver, i'm pretty sure. woman looks american to me. looks a little on the dry side as well. i would guess upper plains to start with but who knows, not much to go by.

Ahhhhh, I know this one! Gimme a second and I'll find the google pin.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 12 March 2021 17:22 (five years ago)

Having some trouble but I'm 90% sure it's the River Walk district of "The Biggest Little City In The World".

Yeah, I was gonna say Reno NV.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 12 March 2021 17:39 (five years ago)

The Silver Legacy* is pretty distinctive. I think it's the tallest building in Nevada?

reno sucks ass ftr

map ca. 1890 (map), Friday, 12 March 2021 18:17 (five years ago)

i would rather go to stoke on trent than reno

map ca. 1890 (map), Friday, 12 March 2021 18:18 (five years ago)

That's easy to say for someone who's never been to stoke-on-trent

or something, Friday, 12 March 2021 18:24 (five years ago)

I was in Reno a year or so ago.. the gaming scene is definitely dying, killed off by California Indian casinos I imagine. There are empty ghost hotels, but you can still get the prime rib dinner (with beverage) for $8.99 at CalNeva.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 12 March 2021 18:31 (five years ago)

Reno still has charm if you are uninterested in gaming:

Lots of access to the backside of the Sierras (although a friend lost his leg a couple years back after an extremely terrible climbing fall), pretty amazing hot springs that are off the internet grid, uh... that's all I got.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 12 March 2021 18:42 (five years ago)

Oh, delicious (and CHEAP) Basque food within <1 hour drive.

not to be pedantic but these sound like they are all.... not in reno

i wouldn't die on the hill of reno sucking ass but i would take a scratch or two

My grandad died on the hill of reno, sucking ass

Marry and Neghim (darraghmac), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:19 (five years ago)

it's unbearably hot then quite cold. dry as a bone. no culture. car city. everyone's a libertarian. sky is darkened by wildfire smoke an increasing amount of days per year. it's true you can drive an hour or more to get somewhere nicer i guess.

map ca. 1890 (map), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:22 (five years ago)

Its a similar story with Stoke on Trent and its branches of Card Factory, most (but perhaps crucially not all!) appear to be in adjacent areas, though opinions are fairly divided on what counts as Stoke on Trent proper, and what is just another shade of gray

cherry blossom, Friday, 12 March 2021 19:22 (five years ago)

Reno has great pawn shops, and a short drive to Virginia City which is pretty fun and has one of the best pioneer cemeteries anywhere.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 12 March 2021 19:27 (five years ago)

i've been to stoke on trent and reno. neither is great tbh.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:29 (five years ago)

I have also been to both, Reno just shades it for me, but on the other hand Stoke on Trent is easier to leave

cherry blossom, Friday, 12 March 2021 19:31 (five years ago)

Johnny Cash never shot a man in Stoke on Trent just to watch him die

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:37 (five years ago)

Tony Pulis was in charge at the time, Cash was rarely able to leave his own half, was never even in shooting range

he was too busy getting his ass sucked by darraghmac’s grandad
