CNN was covering this yesterday...I guess they have to, but that really seemed to me to be a case where you're just feeding into the possibility of something happening. Perhaps this is the core of their adulation, or at least some of them... rather than Trump as a strongman, they see him as somebody who has been pushed around and had sand kicked in his face, just like they've been pushed around, persecuted, shamed. A lot to unpack here.

I'm inclined to agree.

I think it's possible he believes that, and maybe some percentage of Trump's cult; for the rest of the world, Trump as victim/bullied is kind of hard to get your mind around.

In a way though, the very core of Trumpist appeal is victimhood: they've wronged you and people like you, and only I can make it right. Nobody's gonna push you around anymore, etc.

people with poor self-awareness (most of us) are quite capable of feeling they are simultaneously super heroes and victims, without seeing any contradiction in that. learning to see yourself as if from outside and know your flaws and self-deceptions is a learned skill which must be kept in constant use if it is not to atrophy.

It's still stunning that man who daily wears hairspray and tanning spray, and has never carried anything heavier than a five iron in the last forty years, was able to position himself as a working-class hero/salt-of-the-earth/champion of the people so effectively. I mean, Hitler was at least a war veteran.

But perhaps his string of divorces and business failures actually added to the appeal.. that was his 'struggle'.
