Can someone remind this noob of the procedure with these things? Can I vote for things that aren’t on the nomination list and if so do they automatically get added to the list when I do?

I don't want to start another poll while one's still running, but we've only ever reached 30 ballots once in the yearly polls, so it might take a few years' accretion to hit 40 in this one!

All polls cancelled till we do this one in five years.

idk i think all-time has more of an audience than the yearly polls, it is hard for me to keep up with movie releases over a year but i certainly know the movies i love most

I started putting a ballot together a while back and let it get away from me. Bummed that, since the nominations closed, I've already seen one non-nominated film that should absolutely be on my ballot but I also wonder if there's any point in including it given the lack of nomination. I might need to pow-wow with my youth pastor on this one.

probably futile and ridiculous to do any campaigning for such a massive and personal endeavor but i would like to encourage folks to see/revisit Peter Weir's Fearless (1993). not at the top of my list or anything but it'll be on there somewhere. a movie close to my heart and one i never hear anyone talk about ever.

It's very good, iirc. It's been a while.

I did a Facebook countdown of favourite movies with two friends a decade ago, and--I checked back--one of them had Fearless at #12.

very cool, glad to hear i'm not the only one! one of the things i like about it is that it feels like an incredibly rare example of extreme vulnerable emotion in the context of relatively slick Hollywood production values. Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez are both excellent, among each of their best.

Is Zardoz on the list? Asking for a friend possibly putting together a very basic ballot.

Also Aronofsky's Pi, I'm hearing.

As a few posts have pointed out, unless you're heavily invested in the results, and you're worried about voting for something not on the big list, you can vote for whatever you want.

afaik the list is mostly a compendium of films put forward on other threads, it's more just a reminder than a definitive nominations list

why read the posts when you can ask questions about the posts and then not read the replies

Fearless is pretty good -- my first adult notice of Jeff Bridges as actor -- but Bridges' mullet is a hindrance.

The trouble with snarking at people for not succesfully scouring every single post (when they might be text fatigued from looking through a long list of things) in search of rules that might be better placed in say the OP is that this post now might look it's criticising the poll runner(s), which it is not.

Lotta mullet-adjacent dadhair in Weir's American films - Depardieu in Green Card, sunbleached Ford in Mosquito Coast. He even tried to fake one on Ed Harris with that beret.

My own personal issue with voting for a film that wasn't nominated is that it seems like a futile gesture in the context of a poll.

So okay well then I'll just say here: Mädchen in Uniform is beautiful and brilliant and everyone should see it and vote for it. There, I feel better now.
