Oh this is definitely still open. I am going to allow people whatever time they need to get a ballot together.

Wait a minute! How were these nominations created?!?

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 18:39 (five years ago)

Can someone remind this noob of the procedure with these things? Can I vote for things that aren’t on the nomination list and if so do they automatically get added to the list when I do?

― Alba, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 7:19 PM (two months ago) bookmarkflaglink

Yeah. The nominations phase is just to get people’s brains storming. Ballots can have anything on then

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 18:48 (five years ago)

Riiiiiiight. But who the hell nominated Thanatopsis or Submit To Me Now or, er, Some Call It Loving??

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 18:52 (five years ago)

all right i finished my ballot during lunch. contains a bunch of stuff not on the list and is formatted horribly, hope that's ok eric

morbs would hate everything about my list except for the prominent placement of a spielberg film and i think that's the right way to go into this. rip king

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 19:14 (five years ago)

Glad this is back on.

clemenza, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 19:15 (five years ago)

he would also give me shit for not including any movies released before 1979 but i gotta do me

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 19:16 (five years ago)

Eric if you do close this week and roll out next, we could get voting and rollout for the 2020 poll done before the Oscars.

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 21:13 (five years ago)

Oh no, I’m not closing this thing until we have at least 30 to 40 ballots

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 22:00 (five years ago)

Thanks, appreciate not closing this week or whatever. I need time.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 22:03 (five years ago)

ha no chance i have the time put together a ballot for this. maybe i'll just submit my flickchart list that i made when i was 20.

little johnny juul (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 22:07 (five years ago)

Will vote for sure, just got too damn much going on.

Motoroller Scampotron (WmC), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 22:15 (five years ago)

Oh no, I’m not closing this thing until we have at least 30 to 40 ballots

I don't want to start another poll while one's still running, but we've only ever reached 30 ballots once in the yearly polls, so it might take a few years' accretion to hit 40 in this one!

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 22:16 (five years ago)

All polls cancelled till we do this one in five years.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 22:35 (five years ago)

idk i think all-time has more of an audience than the yearly polls, it is hard for me to keep up with movie releases over a year but i certainly know the movies i love most

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 22:46 (five years ago)

The horror movie poll got like 60 ballots. Half that shouldn’t be too tough

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 23:07 (five years ago)

Is the idea that these are the most important films? My favorite films? The most "Sight and Sound poll" films?

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 23:12 (five years ago)

The horror movie poll got like 60 ballots. Half that shouldn’t be too tough

60 ballots in three weeks, vs three months so far here. Deadines focus the mind.

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 23:22 (five years ago)

The idea is however you take the phrase “all-time movies”

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Thursday, 4 March 2021 00:04 (five years ago)

Time Bandits, Modern Times, Good Time, Ashes of Time, Bad Timing, Short Time...

;)

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 4 March 2021 00:17 (five years ago)

...purple rain...

wasdnuos (abanana), Thursday, 4 March 2021 02:52 (five years ago)

will def be sending a ballot. have a loose draft of about 150, that i will narrow down as late as possible

devvvine, Thursday, 4 March 2021 13:25 (five years ago)

I started putting a ballot together a while back and let it get away from me. Bummed that, since the nominations closed, I've already seen one non-nominated film that should absolutely be on my ballot but I also wonder if there's any point in including it given the lack of nomination. I might need to pow-wow with my youth pastor on this one.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Thursday, 4 March 2021 13:39 (five years ago)

just did a haphazard sweep of the noms and got a half-decent top 25 put together, so i guess i'm gonna vote

little johnny juul (voodoo chili), Thursday, 4 March 2021 15:22 (five years ago)

Can I do a write-in? if so, then I can come up with a 25

Oor Neechy, Thursday, 4 March 2021 16:52 (five years ago)

if you read the above posts they will reveal that write-ins are extremely allowed and nigh-encouraged

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 March 2021 16:55 (five years ago)

I've sent in a ballot. If Eric could let me know he received it, that would be great!

Oor Neechy, Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:11 (five years ago)

probably futile and ridiculous to do any campaigning for such a massive and personal endeavor but i would like to encourage folks to see/revisit Peter Weir's Fearless (1993). not at the top of my list or anything but it'll be on there somewhere. a movie close to my heart and one i never hear anyone talk about ever.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:58 (five years ago)

It's very good, iirc. It's been a while.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:02 (five years ago)

I did a Facebook countdown of favourite movies with two friends a decade ago, and--I checked back--one of them had Fearless at #12.

clemenza, Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:03 (five years ago)

very cool, glad to hear i'm not the only one! one of the things i like about it is that it feels like an incredibly rare example of extreme vulnerable emotion in the context of relatively slick Hollywood production values. Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez are both excellent, among each of their best.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:48 (five years ago)

Is Zardoz on the list? Asking for a friend possibly putting together a very basic ballot.

Noel Emits, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:06 (five years ago)

Also Aronofsky's Pi, I'm hearing.

Noel Emits, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:15 (five years ago)

some good stuff is missing :(

billstevejim, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:38 (five years ago)

As a few posts have pointed out, unless you're heavily invested in the results, and you're worried about voting for something not on the big list, you can vote for whatever you want.

clemenza, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:48 (five years ago)

afaik the list is mostly a compendium of films put forward on other threads, it's more just a reminder than a definitive nominations list

Dan S, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:58 (five years ago)

why read the posts when you can ask questions about the posts and then not read the replies

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Friday, 5 March 2021 00:52 (five years ago)

i am sort of sorry

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:05 (five years ago)

Fearless is pretty good -- my first adult notice of Jeff Bridges as actor -- but Bridges' mullet is a hindrance.

So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 5 March 2021 01:09 (five years ago)

Are we allowed to vote in this if Morbs would have sneered at our lack of filmic knowledge?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 5 March 2021 01:11 (five years ago)

The trouble with snarking at people for not succesfully scouring every single post (when they might be text fatigued from looking through a long list of things) in search of rules that might be better placed in say the OP is that this post now might look it's criticising the poll runner(s), which it is not.

Noel Emits, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:14 (five years ago)

Lotta mullet-adjacent dadhair in Weir's American films - Depardieu in Green Card, sunbleached Ford in Mosquito Coast. He even tried to fake one on Ed Harris with that beret.

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Friday, 5 March 2021 01:15 (five years ago)

Stuff in my personal favorites that's not mentioned here yet:

Some kind of monster
Predator
Reanimator
Falling down
Freaked

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:17 (five years ago)

There should be a mullet movie poll

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:18 (five years ago)

(you only needed to look six posts up, a couple of hours before you posted tbf Noel. and half the discussion in the current revive also addresses this issue, it's not just you!)

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Friday, 5 March 2021 01:20 (five years ago)

I didn't see the post. I guess I fucked up!

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:22 (five years ago)

My own personal issue with voting for a film that wasn't nominated is that it seems like a futile gesture in the context of a poll.

So okay well then I'll just say here: Mädchen in Uniform is beautiful and brilliant and everyone should see it and vote for it. There, I feel better now.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 02:24 (five years ago)

Eric, I just sent you my ballot. Miss you so much, Morbs!
