I really appreciated their takedown of r/childfree. The idea that you can have a left politics centered on anti-humanism/antinatalism is disgusting to me.

Yeah I mean I’m personally anti-kid in my own life, but it’s def a weird route for Leftists to take as a matter of policy.

Leave that to the crypto-fash and the Bill Gates/ Davis types

So, in advance of our 500th ep I put out a listener poll asking people to vote on their all-time favorite eps. Excited to now share the results: pic.twitter.com/fzS8fOuWTj

the best ones are nearly all in the first couple hundo tbh

mh, Thursday, 25 February 2021 02:09 (five years ago)

For topic coverage maybe, but I so hated how bad Matt’s mic would sound back then. Like none of these guys had the proficiency of your basic college DJ or dive bar sound guy just to record a basic voice

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Thursday, 25 February 2021 17:32 (five years ago)

The tables have turned in the new series. Matt sounds fine, Felix sounds like he set a phone on a table across a bare room.

I mean a Blue Yeti is cheap and all you have to do is plug it in the the usb port

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 26 February 2021 02:56 (five years ago)

Yeah, and they couldn’t even do that regularly

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Friday, 26 February 2021 21:23 (five years ago)

It’s usually Felix, but in episode 500 it was Amber who couldn’t be bothered to speak into the microphone.

john shopkins (naus), Saturday, 27 February 2021 21:33 (five years ago)

Their terrible sound obscures the thing I hate most about podcasts - noise suppression when someone isn’t speaking. I find it very distracting to hear a slight hiss when someone is talking that drops out when they aren’t, it makes the noise more obvious.

Joe Biden Stan Account (milo z), Saturday, 27 February 2021 21:37 (five years ago)

yeah personally I try not to mix out *all* the noise for that reason (and cause you risk producing other weird artifacts)

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Saturday, 27 February 2021 21:44 (five years ago)

is Virgil just gone now? Was surprised he wasn't on the 500th episode (or maybe he is later but not so far)

Busy with his Settling Primary Scores podcast.

Peter Daou X Frankie Knuckles

HOUSE REMIX THREAD

Hi friends - in the 90s I was a keyboardist & producer on numerous house tracks and remixes.

I wanted to share a few favorites I worked on.

First, here's a Diana Ross remix with Frankie Knuckles.

Peter drifting away from his enthusiastic dogmatic political phase seems good for him

mh, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 02:15 (five years ago)

Don’t know if this is a bit but lol if $120k a month in Patreon isn’t enough so they had to do a Stitcher Premium spinoff.

FWIW, Matt admitted on his latest Death is Around the Corner appearance that he felt weird about doing a Stitcher show, but the thinking was it might be a good way to get more people to check out Blowback, which I gather they're hoping will get to keep going beyond its forthcoming second season.

tbc i am not advocating actually paying to hear matt and felix talk about Gunsmoke

This Louise Linton movie sounds dire and also completely watchable on Netflix after a strong edible.

Joe Bombin (milo z), Wednesday, 10 March 2021 22:07 (five years ago)

Scratch that, just watched a trailer and they did not convey how ugly it is.

the ALAB episode about the racism baked into civil tort law is nuts

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Wednesday, 17 March 2021 13:08 (five years ago)

Chris and Molly's music podcast is doing a run of Our Band Could Be Your Life episodes, Street Fight Bryan is doing Minor Threat and I am eager to hear them interpreted through the lens of a nu-metal superfan.

Joe Bombin (milo z), Thursday, 18 March 2021 02:56 (five years ago)

I notice it's been pretty much wall to wall movie episodes on chapo for a while. guess they like the stimulus package!

"me you madness" is outstanding tbh

QAA is doing a great job cataloging America's seemingly endless supply of scammers and rubes. really glad they've mostly stopped doing the cringey scripted skit stuff they used to

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Monday, 22 March 2021 05:21 (five years ago)

Travis View from QAA turned up in the HBO QAnon documentary tonight. And fully agree about the scripted stuff.

The TrueAnon episode about Haiti was fully infuriating if anyone needs that.

Amber A’Lee Frost came to New York City as a working class activist in a punk band, arriving just before the start of Occupy Wall Street—the first major event in decades for a socialist movement that was nearly extinct at the turn of the century. She's been at the vanguard of radical politics ever since, as a writer, veteran member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and cohost of the wildly popular Chapo Trap House podcast. She has reported on millennial activism everywhere from the sunny streets of Havana, to the Labour Party’s unexpected victory in the UK, to small towns in her home state of Indiana.

Dirtbag is a much-anticipated debut from one of the greatest emerging writers in modern socialism. This memoir is more than Frost’s story; it is also the story of the only movement that has a chance to reshape our world. Both are chock-full of momentary triumphs, stupid decisions, new international friendships and rivalries, struggle, joy, setbacks, and heartbreak. Both are related with magnetic prose, remarkable candor, and unflappable humor.

Throughout it all, Frost burned the candle at both ends. She kissed a man in the rain at a train stop after he sang her “The Internationale,” and gave herself hangovers that left her begging for death. But all of the late nights, heated debates, and joyous camaraderie was set against the unmistakable sense that somehow, socialism was winning.

this was a great episode. at the beginning i remembered i read a bunch of articles about this tort damages problem in law school then they name-dropped my professor because she wrote the important one :)
