something old and Southern

I mean New Orleans was the first thing I thought of when I saw those wrought iron minibalconies but I can't convince myself this is someplace that warm

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:35 (five years ago)

Yeah, no magnolia trees

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:36 (five years ago)

Wait, is this a Left Hand Traffic country?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:44 (five years ago)

I was wondering too... but there are not traffic signs to judge by, and the road equipment could be traveling in either direction

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:55 (five years ago)

The car braking at the end of the street appears to be LHT.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:01 (five years ago)

There's a slow-moving vehicle sign on that steam-roller, which I believe are unique to North America. It looks like Charleston SC or something, something old and Southern

Def not Charleston nor New Orleans. It could be South America but overhead utilities are not as out of control.

I said Lisbon upthread and I'm pretty sure I've found it? More trees but looks right

or something, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:15 (five years ago)

I say more trees, I mean more foliage. cherry blossom's pic obvs winter

or something, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:17 (five years ago)

Looks right

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:19 (five years ago)

Yep, well played.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:23 (five years ago)

I wondered if the tall building behind the trees was a church, yet it's flanked on both sides by those barn-colored apartments, which made me pause. But it is indeed a church. Good work!

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:29 (five years ago)

I've visited a grand total of 12 countries and 3 of them have come up here recently, it can't last

or something, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:30 (five years ago)

you people

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:49 (five years ago)

amazing work

budo jeru, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 03:45 (five years ago)

A tough one - interesting that quite a few people thought it was North America. I did think the Iberian peninsula or possibly South America. The tiles certainly pointed to Portugal but despite having been to Lisbon several times, I forgot there are bits of it that aren't hilly!

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 04:03 (five years ago)

Awesome work!

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 04:54 (five years ago)

I did start googling 'red building city Lisbon' and similar last night suspecting that the caption 'Work' had a double meaning :)

nashwan, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 09:25 (five years ago)

Oops, no, no double meaning. Someone assumed that about a previous photo too. There's never a clue in the caption, everything is in the photo only

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 09:50 (five years ago)

Nice one

Yeah those [whatever you call the glossy mosaics] look so Lisbonian

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 13:52 (five years ago)

check out the 2009 version on Streetview though

nashwan, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 14:04 (five years ago)

Not there in 2014 either!

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 14:08 (five years ago)

This one is going to be relatively easy, i think:

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 14:37 (five years ago)

Not Europe, not North America, or South America I don't think. Looks Asian, more specifically subcontinental, judging from the men's dress / skin colour. Couple of yellow taxis too which makes me think India. I'm guessing an Indian megalopolis, Mumbai or Delhi.

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:34 (five years ago)

Black and yellow curbs could provide the answer

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:35 (five years ago)

But isn't that an oak tree?

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:49 (five years ago)

I can confirm that it’s not Mumbai or Delhi.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:56 (five years ago)

looks kind of post--soviet to me but what do i know

lord of the ting tings (map), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:58 (five years ago)

actually it might be africa?

lord of the ting tings (map), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:59 (five years ago)

wait no it's definitely antarctica, getting a strong fort mcmurdo vibe

lord of the ting tings (map), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:00 (five years ago)

Phuket?

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:02 (five years ago)

Islamabad?

pomenitul, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:03 (five years ago)

Phuket?

agree

lord of the ting tings (map), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:04 (five years ago)

The anomalous oak tree is a good spot.

The only clues I will give are that people play cricket there and nobody is super close yet.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:13 (five years ago)

My initial thought was also Delhi but I see thats already been thrown out of court.

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:17 (five years ago)

Dhaka?

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:30 (five years ago)

If I say nobody has the country right yet, that will probably make it a lot easier.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:39 (five years ago)

Colombo

rob, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:52 (five years ago)

Not Sri Lanka.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:53 (five years ago)

found it! Sharjah, UAE - Rolla Square, to be precise

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:54 (five years ago)

Correct!

a search for black and yellow curbs in Asia got me this pic:
http://geotips.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/srwpd3s.jpg

was expecting Bangladesh or Pakistan, but it turned out to be a UAE construction firm. then checked UAE for cricket-ness, not expecting anything, but yes! tried Abu Dhabi parks first, but then switched to Sharjah, which was also mentioned as a cricket-friendly city, and found a pic of a park that seemed to match.

Al Rolla Square, as it happens, is actually named after its banyan trees!

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 22:14 (five years ago)

ah thanx, right on the money!

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 22:15 (five years ago)

xp

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 22:16 (five years ago)

I thought those black and yellow curbs might do the trick!

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 22:32 (five years ago)

yep, I went with your suggestion, seemed like the only way in

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 22:38 (five years ago)

I only just noticed it actually says Sharjah on that pic as well!
