Rainn Wilson surely worse than Hader in the same category

Canon in Deez (silby), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:39 (five years ago)

I wouldn't hire him to convince me of anything, but Rainn Wilson does fine portraying a caricature of a tall asocial weirdo in 6FU, Office, Galaxy Quest, Super. The bar is Bloom.

(seen Barry deems?)

cpt otm (darraghmac), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:57 (five years ago)

oh i liked him in trainwreck but maybe not quite as much as lebron james

It never occurred to me to wonder whether Orlando Bloom could act or not.

edited for dog profanity (cryptosicko), Friday, 5 February 2021 21:06 (five years ago)

He can act close enough to an elf in those movies, probably as good as we'll get.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 February 2021 21:19 (five years ago)

considering elves aren't actually real

sarahell, Saturday, 6 February 2021 01:41 (five years ago)

tbh last time i watched lotr i thought bloom was not terrible, but i was making a conscious effort to appreciate him, because having been 13-15 when the movies came out and in close association w women of a similar age i could not properly perceive his performance thru an interposed skein of sexual jealousy. (also i was busy crushing on viggo.) as a mature and confident adult this is v slightly less of an issue and i am better able to enjoy his, idk, springiness; but admittedly the gifs itt have been so brutal that next time i act in anything including possibly real life i expect to hear my brain telling me i just look like that, only less springy.

difficult listening hour, Saturday, 6 February 2021 02:41 (five years ago)

(increasingly think "no good gifs" is the worst thing you can say about an actor-- no doubt this privileges the momentary decontextualized effect over the broader structure of a performance but otoh it's not like you can have one without the other)

difficult listening hour, Saturday, 6 February 2021 02:54 (five years ago)

have no idea what that post means

thought Ryan Phillipe was good as a fake Scotlander in Gosford Park

Dan S, Saturday, 6 February 2021 02:59 (five years ago)

yeah he's funny!

difficult listening hour, Saturday, 6 February 2021 03:00 (five years ago)

also does what's asked of him iirc in the movie where tim robbins is bill gates and orders claire forlani to surreptitiously trigger ryan philippe's peanut allergy by scraping him w a fork

For anyone who doesn't Chris Pratt.. another arrow for your quiver:

Feb. 8, 8:05 a.m. "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Parks and Recreation" actor Chris Pratt's brother, Sgt. Daniel Pratt, may support a far-right extremist group whose members were present at the Jan. 6 riots.

(The Sheriff) did not deny their involvement or support for the Three Percenters: "The employees told me that their intention was to support the 2nd Amendment and the U.S. Constitution."

....?

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 19:43 (five years ago)

Daniel Pratt is definitely a bad actor

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:03 (five years ago)

This was discussed last night and our consensus pick was Richard Dreyfuss

I was arguing pretty hard for David Caruso but Dreyfuss won out in the end

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:05 (five years ago)

ah sweet vindication

rob, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:12 (five years ago)

the bar is Bloom

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:27 (five years ago)

I will again respond that dreyfuss's gleeful, furious, amused, frustrated laugh to the mayor under the billboard in jaws would render him utterly unallowable

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:37 (five years ago)

American Graffiti, Duddy Kravitz, Jaws, and Close Encounters--surely not even close.

clemenza, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:39 (five years ago)

I can confirm he is not even close

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:40 (five years ago)

THE BAR IS BLOOM

blood vessels in my eyes exploding en masse here

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:43 (five years ago)

He's the absolute worst thing about three of those excellent movies (haven't seen American Graffiti) and his 80s/90s run was an explicably rising star (with increasingly "America's Sweetheart" smarm) coupled with film-destroying performances, I might even argue that Always would've been watchable with another lead

I would see anything with Bloom in it before I'd see Dreyfuss again

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:44 (five years ago)

Bloom's job is to be Lisa Simpson's fantasy man
Ryan Philippe's job is to act as a stand-in for the emptiness of the attractive American male
Richard Dreyfuss's job is apparently to destroy fifteen years of American cinema

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:46 (five years ago)

Wow--couldn't disagree more. (Surprised you still consider them excellent, Dreyfuss commands so much screen time--there's hardly a scene in Duddy Kravitz without him.)

clemenza, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:49 (five years ago)

Oh nvm I was confusing him with Robin Williams in Garp

John Irving and Mordecai Richler are the same author in my head

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:54 (five years ago)

Im fully on board with outrageous continued pressing for inclusions itt, im glad that fgti gets that

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:57 (five years ago)

I feel like I could argue for David Caruso but he is so bad that I just don't even have the energy to work for it

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:05 (five years ago)

Has he had a career you could compare to the two lads

And would he just fuckin *die* for it even to be asked? Id hope so.

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:07 (five years ago)

He also extremely suffers from existing in stark relief to Gary Sinise and William Petersen
If you're into that thing
Procedural cop drama that is

flamboyant goon tie included, Wednesday, 10 February 2021 00:35 (five years ago)

Uh wow look we dont uh we dont talk about sinise in these parts ok

scampsite (darraghmac), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 00:48 (five years ago)

I'm confused by this threads premise. Is it the 3rd worst actor ever? Or the worst actor ever? Or 3 of the worst actors ever?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:01 (five years ago)

Forget it Trayce it’s darraghtown

Canon in Deez (silby), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:09 (five years ago)

Anyway its Tommy Wiseau innit?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:21 (five years ago)

have only seen James Franco as Tommy Wiseau and that's bad enough

Dan S, Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:24 (five years ago)

I really dont mean to be tapping the sign but i am tapping the sign that says this is all covered in the early posts

scampsite (darraghmac), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:29 (five years ago)

xp I did kind of like that movie, though

Dan S, Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:30 (five years ago)

the lar is bboom

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:32 (five years ago)

Dreyfuss is probably fine in Graffiti, definitely good in Jaws, and I'd watch What About Bob? with an audience to see if it holds up. If we start weighing his perfs on a scale though, fgti might be able to tip it. I've no idea what Bloomps has done outside a Crowe I haven't seen, some (?) of the Pirates, and taking that elephant thing down hardcore, damn, but it can't be all that much in quantity.

Plenty of human beings as bad as Wiseau at acting who, like Wiseau, are not professional actors.

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:34 (five years ago)

Tisnt about scales

scampsite (darraghmac), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:37 (five years ago)

Save that he may have them under his sloughing skin

scampsite (darraghmac), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:38 (five years ago)

xp

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:39 (five years ago)

If Dreyfuss has been terrible in 103 films and Bloom has only been profoundly inept in seven, I can see a case for it

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:40 (five years ago)

maybe a weekly "What About Dick?" podcast where flambo watches and talks through a different Dreyfuss fillum with a guest and/or a steady-handed producer could help us assess

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 10 February 2021 01:41 (five years ago)

Orlando Bloom
