Does Kris Marshall count? He has mostly had a career being a gormless cunt on TV, but he does have a side career being a gormless cunt in films, he is also tipped to be the new Dr Who, god help us.

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 4 February 2021 22:40 (five years ago)

Future generations will discover this vast wealth of Bloom gifs, and will wonder what kind of society we were, and just what we valued.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 February 2021 23:00 (five years ago)

The actor has been widely tipped for the 13th Doctor role in recent weeks due to a betting surge and his curiously timed exit from BBC’s Death in Paradise.

According to an interview with the HeraldSun, Marshall stated he was “very flattered to be considered by the good public” as the next Doctor, before adding “I wouldn’t put any money on it yet.”

In the future, everyone will be the 13th Doctor for fifteen minutes.

Kris Marshall is really bad, and managed to be one of the worst parts of appalling Christmas film Love Actually. Is he Bloom-bad?

https://img.rasset.ie/000dbacf-500.jpg

I literally cannot stand to watch him on screen, but I’m unconvinced that’s sheer badness and not just personal dislike tbh.

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Thursday, 4 February 2021 23:10 (five years ago)

on one hand he does seem to have a bit too much, well you can't exactly call it "personality" but he has a presence, albeit a repellant one

on the other hand that is just his real face and his real personality, he has never shown any ability to either work it into a role or make it a bit that works on its own.

suppose I should watch some more of his serious acting to find out, except no, not going to do that of course.

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 4 February 2021 23:16 (five years ago)

sarandon was pretty good as bette davis in feud

tiwa-nty one savage (voodoo chili), Thursday, 4 February 2021 23:18 (five years ago)

Kris lad hasn't gotten the profile to qualify for consideration

Dr who is one of the worst things in culture

yeahhhhhh this is my Michael Cera problem ... and that other one who is like a more rancid Michael Cera -- Seth Rogan

sarahell, Friday, 5 February 2021 00:46 (five years ago)

Tbh they are both miles ahead of bill hader, who somehow seems to be rated

apparently Hader played the voice of Pipey on an episode of Silicon Valley ... I am guessing that might be his best role?

sarahell, Friday, 5 February 2021 01:07 (five years ago)

He and Kristen Wiig are pretty good in Adventureland.

clemenza, Friday, 5 February 2021 02:27 (five years ago)

He's good at what he's meant to be doing in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Superbad, and perfectly fine in Tropic Thunder iirc.

shivers me timber (sic), Friday, 5 February 2021 02:30 (five years ago)

Bad in superbad, have zero recollection of him in adventureland or tropic thunder

Deeply awkward screen presence, ive seen the things ppl praise him for and if hes writing it then hes holding his writing career back playing the roles

Not a bloom contender but a bob-dylan-lite of acting so

cpt otm (darraghmac), Friday, 5 February 2021 02:55 (five years ago)

I hear he charms in IT but ive not seen

cpt otm (darraghmac), Friday, 5 February 2021 02:55 (five years ago)

Andie MacDowell is pretty generally not-good.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 February 2021 03:19 (five years ago)

THE BAR IS BLOOM

shivers me timber (sic), Friday, 5 February 2021 03:23 (five years ago)

Comrade sic ur stepping up here has been noted

cpt otm (darraghmac), Friday, 5 February 2021 03:25 (five years ago)

Andie MacDowell is not a great actor, but she's a convincing human being* in three great films in three different calendar decades

* if an unusual one in at least two

shivers me timber (sic), Friday, 5 February 2021 03:26 (five years ago)

I liked Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber and How the Grinch Stole Christmas and maybe a couple of other comedy roles, but not in any of his dramatic performances

Dan S, Friday, 5 February 2021 03:29 (five years ago)

"I liked this actor's performances" is not - and I'll allow the difference is fine and subtle - "this actor is absolutely in the running to be the most inept, albeit famous & successful, film performer of all time"

shivers me timber (sic), Friday, 5 February 2021 03:57 (five years ago)

agree, and also think there isn't a 'most inept film performer of all time'

Dan S, Friday, 5 February 2021 04:06 (five years ago)

Hader's great but like the majority of SNL alumni I don't know that he really needs to be an actor in movies

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 February 2021 05:17 (five years ago)

Like they can't all or even mostly be Bill Murray

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 February 2021 05:18 (five years ago)

Bill Hader is pretty good in Barry

Roz, Friday, 5 February 2021 05:29 (five years ago)

yeah, and he's not holding back his writing nor his directing careers by doing it

shivers me timber (sic), Friday, 5 February 2021 05:52 (five years ago)

People liked him a bunch in Skeleton Twins.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 5 February 2021 18:38 (five years ago)

Also, good comedic acting is acting, too. I remember a friend observing that one thing that helped sell Key & Peele was that the leads were good actors. Same thing with Mr. Show, imo. Or Eddie Murphy or yeah, Bill Murray. I guess it's a harder thing to break down. I do love it when more dramatic actors reveal their comedy chops, though, like Charlize Theron or Streep or whomever.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 February 2021 19:08 (five years ago)

when execrable dramatic actors become somewhat bearable by unclenching for a comedy, like Streep or whomever.

Mods

cpt otm (darraghmac), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:11 (five years ago)

I enjoy Hader's enthusiasm for classic comedy on the occasional Criterion extra.

edited for dog profanity (cryptosicko), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:13 (five years ago)

But hes an awful actor

Now i know comedians are exempt but theres a clause there where if they try too hard theyre pulled in

Ppl will say hes good in this and that, spoiler he isnt

cpt otm (darraghmac), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:16 (five years ago)

motion to strike Hader from list.

do I have a second

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:36 (five years ago)

nope, denied

sarahell, Friday, 5 February 2021 20:38 (five years ago)

Rainn Wilson surely worse than Hader in the same category

Canon in Deez (silby), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:39 (five years ago)

I wouldn't hire him to convince me of anything, but Rainn Wilson does fine portraying a caricature of a tall asocial weirdo in 6FU, Office, Galaxy Quest, Super. The bar is Bloom.

(seen Barry deems?)

Hes not good in it, it has moments

cpt otm (darraghmac), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:57 (five years ago)

oh i liked him in trainwreck but maybe not quite as much as lebron james

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 February 2021 20:57 (five years ago)

It never occurred to me to wonder whether Orlando Bloom could act or not.

edited for dog profanity (cryptosicko), Friday, 5 February 2021 21:06 (five years ago)

He can act close enough to an elf in those movies, probably as good as we'll get.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 February 2021 21:19 (five years ago)

considering elves aren't actually real
