Hathaway is very good in Colossal, an excellent movie; fine in Ocean's 8, a moderately competent movie; and has a lot of fun eating scenery in The Witches, an unnecessary and fairly bad movie. I also intend to watch Rachel Getting Married one day, though suspect she does too much Acting in it.

I don't remember who pointed it out but someone in the House of Cards thread pointed out there was a scene where he got angry at his wife and for about ten minutes, dropped the ridiculous southern accent he'd been using for 3 seasons for like the entirety of it. and then went back to it after that scene ended.

I watched it shortly after reading that post and it was completely accurate, one of the most bizarre things ever. I mean yeah the argument could be made that hte exaggerated accent is his politician-speak, but he never dropped those mannerisms with his wife in private, so...that doesn't make sense either.

Spacey does a good robot voice in "Moon."

Matrix/keanu is worth thinking about because swap in bloom and tbh id see no difference

I liked Renner in "Hurt Locker", and he was quite good in Wind River, but it was majorly distracting to me to have Hawkeye and Wanda Maximoff together in a non-Avengers film by that point

isn't there a famous anecdote that when billy wilder wanted to cast McMurray in double indemnity he replied "but Billy this requires actual acting" anyway I think his lack of affect works in that movie

I'll allow there's 23 years of almost certainly mostly terrible work in the middle there but who knows, might be fine. Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula's New Movie AD 1992 is great despite Keanu not being good in it.

ethan hawke is great. maybe people are conflating "is annoying/obnoxious in certain 90s roles" with doing a bad job as an actor.
