Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:46 (five years ago)

I have to say it is galling how often I think of someone and then remember the one perf I liked (e.g., Jim Caviezel)

rob, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:46 (five years ago)

just putting these here to muse over:

Bradley Cooper
Ryan Reynolds

rob, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:47 (five years ago)

jesus that gif an all oof

No idea who the guy is apart from your posting him right at the start tho

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:47 (five years ago)

Cera, of course, is a no way. Scott pilgrim and arrested development and superbad? Excellent in them all

you mean, crap, crappier, and crappiest? Nah garbage in, garbage out

sarahell, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:48 (five years ago)

Ryan reynolds is vvvv annoying ofc but cant really

Cooper, as upthread, has convinced me in performances as an american man

The bar is guys who if they played a carrot in their school play would make you wonder did carrots really exist or did you dream them

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:49 (five years ago)

I’d like to submit this in favour of my earlier worst nomination, Richard Madden.

haha yes! Robb Stark! He makes Kit Harrington look good!

The bar is the bar, the measure, the challenge, etc

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:49 (five years ago)

I’ll second Ryan Reynolds, Hollywood has evolved past the need for multiple Ryans.

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:50 (five years ago)

Yerman from american pie, the lacrosse one, he never really took off after, he would be a strong candidate now

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:51 (five years ago)

I can't think of a Cooper perf I didn't dislike, but true I'm not sure total incompetence is the reason

Caviezel post was a nod of respect to the bar tbc

rob, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:52 (five years ago)

Megan Fox

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:52 (five years ago)

Marky Mark has been mentioned already, but he's pretty terrible a lot of the time.

Um, Tarantino as actor is pretty terrible. I think a key issue (maybe addressed in thread?) is the different between "bad actor" and "bad because miscast." For example, is Keanu Reeves a good actor? For sure he's been terrible in a lot of things, but he's also been absolutely great in a few things. Same with Stallone, Bruce, Arnold, et al. Or Kevin Costner, who has been good and bad in almost equal measure, depending. Even Adam Sandler (who, ironically, is typically at his worst when he's in his wheelhouse) has been great in a couple of roles. Whereas someone like Tarantino is always bad. Then again, he's not really an actor.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:52 (five years ago)

I got u rob

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:53 (five years ago)

keanu has been too well cast to qualify

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:53 (five years ago)

Ah!

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:54 (five years ago)

Because, ftr, he is an awful actor

Really guys, he is. Worse actor than anyone offered bar the two

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:54 (five years ago)

To me Bradley Cooper is one of those actors like Sam Worthington where I’ve seen the name a million times, I’ve seen them in things, but I wouldn’t bet 50p on being able to identify them out of four different actors. That’s not the same thing as being on Bloom’s level.

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:54 (five years ago)

yeah, if Keanu's only role in his career was Harker in Dracula, he'd be a good nom, but he's been good in too much since then.

he's bad in Devil's Advocate but it doesn't hurt the film either. nothing makes me LOL more than his delivery on "According to the Bible....u LOSE"

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:55 (five years ago)

Megan Fox

Absolutely not. Very good in Jennifer’s Body.

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:55 (five years ago)

Sam Worthington's your guy if you're filming in 2009 and nobody is going to remember your film in 5 years

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:55 (five years ago)

xpost missed that one!

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:55 (five years ago)

Shame on any director not using keanu correctly but point break alone, and so much else besides

Daniel radcliffe may have a role like this, sic insists its a farting corpse, i dunno can i see it tbh

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:56 (five years ago)

Marky Mark is a massively entertaining screen presence in Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Big Hit and Huckabees, three of which are also very good films, and you can tell he's doing what he's doing on purpose in all four.

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:56 (five years ago)

OTM and the other guys and the departed (which performances are, imo, companion pieces)

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:58 (five years ago)

Absolutely not. Very good in Jennifer’s Body.

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:58 (five years ago)

“He just about convinced as a lifeless body” is the obvious joke about Swiss army man, so much that I p much assume it’s the sole reason they cast him

Yelp for gyros (wins), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:58 (five years ago)

should Wahlberg be on this list?

Maybe...maybe no

maybe fuck yrself

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:59 (five years ago)

I totally agree with those. And There Departed. Maybe it's just having the right director?

Keanu is bad in *lots* of stuff. He's not even necessarily good in his good roles, like "The Matrix," just right. But he's just right in lots of stuff.

There are a couple of old school guys I don't quite get. Like Fred MacMurray in "Double Indemnity," I've never found much about that performance good, and the movie is a masterpiece. Same with "The Apartment," though it's been a while. Especially compared to his co-stars in that one.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:59 (five years ago)

Hell, i heart huckabees, hes very good in that

Not exactly showing range across em all or anything but def better than a spark of interest and humour

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:59 (five years ago)

I was xposting re: Marky Mark

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 20:59 (five years ago)

How was he in Pain & Gain?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:00 (five years ago)

Sort of agree that McMurray lurches in those roles, not sure what else ive seen him in but def drags two great movies if they are his big ones

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:00 (five years ago)

Also an opposite thread

What would you even ask

"Who is always great despite ......?"

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:01 (five years ago)

Ans would be John Leguizamo anyway

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:02 (five years ago)

what do we think about William Shatner?

rob, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:02 (five years ago)

Way too charismatic for this

But also responsible for the single worst lead male performance i can recall

Q: Did Bloomps lose his contact lens halfway through this gif, y/n, because I'm pretty sure that's what the facial expression suggests

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:04 (five years ago)

Hmm. I always appreciated an acting appearance by Sydney Pollack, despite him just moonlighting.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:04 (five years ago)

gonna FP anyone who makes me see that gif again

rob, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:05 (five years ago)

No mention of Gerard Butler in the stinker list? Or does he just *make* stinkers?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:06 (five years ago)

I assume it's because they're all called Chris

― shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, February 3, 2021 8:45 PM

I saw twitter memes, a lot of asian people tweeting "how are we supposed to tell these guys apart?"

I once saw a woman on television crying and talking about something traumatic and I was thinking "god, that's just abysmal acting", then I had the horrible realization that it wasn't a film and this was a real person talking about a real traumatic experience.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:06 (five years ago)

Marky Mark has been mentioned already, but he's pretty terrible a lot of the time.

like Hanks, he is redeemed by one role that brought me genuine joy. In Mark's case, it was "I'm the guy that does his job, you must be the other guy." The Departed.

Also, I give a blanket exemption for anyone in L.A. Confidential because the casting and direction was just great imo

sarahell, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:07 (five years ago)

shit, you might be right, Spacey is maybe p good in that?

rob, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:07 (five years ago)

"Damn, it fell out again."

ok fine that is lol

rob, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:09 (five years ago)

I had to have the chat with mrs mac last night to clarify spacey in LA confidential and whether he was good in it, this thread is getting to me

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:10 (five years ago)

Best quote, and now you're getting into the swing of things

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:10 (five years ago)

Do you know who can get into the box with spacey and malkovich, and this is not gonna go down well?

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 21:11 (five years ago)

macmurray’s smug anticharisma is being used v deliberately in both of those movies
