That is literally the only Langella role I'm able to summon up from memory at any given time, so there may be something to Chuck's assertion.

I find Ryan Philippe charming because he has kind of a stupid voice/ general unintentional goofiness, don't know if that's really an adequate defense though.

I find Phillippe charming because he's a weirdo comedy (Tim & Eric, Eric Andre) fan and because he was a game participant in weirdo comedy classic MacGruber but I don't really have much time for the things he acts in, generally.

Wtf is wrong with ppl who are picking Claire Danes and Ben Mendelsohn? You must be joking or maybe you just don't like them/their roles? Anyone doubting the greatness of Ben M should watch the first season of Bloodline ...

There are actors who I find irritating to watch but are not bad actors -- Elizabeth Moss is one of those -- but she isn't a bad actor.

Has Kristen Stewart come up yet? She's more wooden than an axe handle.

my favorite thing that happened in this thread so far is someone bringing up hayden christensen and then that suggestion getting immediately dismissed bc whatever his actual talents he was perfectly suited to play stephen glass in shattered glass

Being good-looking makes you a good actor usually.

seth rogen certainly doesn't belong in this thread, tho i will definitely entertain the argument that his best-ever performance was in freaks and geeks

I've said it before but Katherine Heigl transformed into a little boy for the role in Babadook. What other actor can claim that?

speaking of wooden -- John Krasinski -- Dominic West is fucking Alec Guinness compared to that guy. Not even Wendell Pierce can make him interesting, and Wendell Pierce was excellent at making Dominic West appealing to watch.

John Krasinski would have gotten screamed at by any theater actor for the constant "finger over mouth" in A Quiet Place

Most of these nominations surprise me, it really isn't that often that I'm bothered by a performance, there's plenty of actors I don't really like but I don't think that's much about ability.

also, one of the three (?) hot chrises (but i don't know which one).

though I think I felt something akin to warmth from Harrington in the scenes with his dog in GoT

duchovny reminds me of david spade - though i don't think you could really call him the "worst actor", he remained pretty niche.

Chris Pine has been excellent in a couple of movies, especially Hell or High Water. Chris Pratt has been fine and fun in Marvel, Parks and Rec ... Hemsworth is a good Thor, and was good in Cabin in the Woods. Chris Evans is a good Captain America, and was really funny in Scott Pilgrim.
