got to interview Jake G. for the Prince of Persia movie and have a soft spot for him as one of the nicest, most genuine, chill celebs I ever interviewed (second maybe to Jimmy Fallon who everyone hates but he was such a fun, nice guy)

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 16:59 (five years ago)

Think back and if possible try to recall any missing hours/afternoons, any spots you fuzzily look on now as nothings, where when you try harder to focus the puppy in your belly whines uneasily and scrabbles to get away

That was the interview with radcliffe imo

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:01 (five years ago)

I considered mentioning Tim Robbins except I remembered that I like him in The Player, but then I wondered if my liking The Player actually had anything to do with Tim Robbins's specific presence, and then I couldn't remember any other Tim Robbins roles that did anything for me, so maybe Tim Robbins is a good choice.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:04 (five years ago)

Bob Roberts

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:07 (five years ago)

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:07 (five years ago)

he is good in Bob Roberts but Jack Black is really good in Bob Roberts

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:10 (five years ago)

Robbins also splendid in Hudsucker Proxy, fine in Tapeheads

my first job in new york was working customer service for a raw vegan juice company and it was the worst job i've ever had and every celebrity i dealt with was a goddamn sociopath except jake gyllenhaal who was the biggest sweetheart over the phone

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:17 (five years ago)

Jake was good in NIghtcrawler too

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:17 (five years ago)

ah see I'm the board's biggest Jake stan and I thought him miscast in Nightcrawler.

He's best when playing chill dudes.

Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, Nick Robinson, Leo Howard, Tony Oller, Chandler Riggs, Hunter Parrish, Rami Malek, Landon Liboiron, Ed Westwick, Tom Felton, Ben Key, Eddy Westcott, Joshua Sasse, Logan Lerman, Ansel Elgort, Jack Reynor, Colton Haynes, Max Thieriot, Scott Eastwood, Chris Pratt, Emory Cohen, Alden Ehrenreich, Taron Egerton, Jack O'Connell, and Blake Jenner screentested for the young Han Solo.

I feel, with some nurturing, there's a rake of promising candidates here if they can raise their profiles.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:19 (five years ago)

(amongst all the clearly made-up names)

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:21 (five years ago)

Simon Pegg is consistently the worst thing in everything he is in. Not sure you would class him as an actor though

calumerio, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:23 (five years ago)

I thought I knew the name of the actor who ultimately got the job but I'm not 100% sure I could pick it out of that young Han Solo casting list. Like I certainly wouldn't bet any money on my ability to do so. It's one of the more made-up looking ones, I know that much.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:28 (five years ago)

Is Erpy Derpy the name of an actor? I think it might be him.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:28 (five years ago)

Alden Ehrenreich

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:33 (five years ago)

Simon Pegg, like Martin Freeman, always feels like he's doing a "English chap for the American lot" thing

flamboyant goon tie included, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:34 (five years ago)

Simon Pegg is as bad a nom as weve had tbh

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:37 (five years ago)

He could do with being more scared in front of the camera.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:44 (five years ago)

Alden ehdenrich and amstel englebort are different ppl, jesus

Neither get close to the dullness tho

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:49 (five years ago)

legit hard lol at amstel englebort

There could've been like an Anhelm Essenbrook planted amidst that list to further muddy the waters.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:52 (five years ago)

I quite liked Alden Ehrenreich in that Brave New World thing. He's definitely TV, though. He shouldn't be overstepping into films.

trishyb, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:53 (five years ago)

One of them was lovely in the coen bros studio flick so def not him

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:54 (five years ago)

He's definitely TV, though. He shouldn't be overstepping into films.

― trishyb,

In itself this is a good distinction i think

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:55 (five years ago)

Ditto on Robbins in The Player, also Short Cuts.

The movies/TV distinction completely blurs for me at this point in history. I count Elizabeth Moss and Carrie Coon as the two best actresses out there, but not for their film roles (which have been fine but secondary thus far).

clemenza, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 17:57 (five years ago)

The husband and I were talking about it in terms of who's a real star, and how good-looking, or at least distinctive-looking, do "real stars" have to be? In the way that Deems uses Ornaldo Bloomps as his yardstick for who's terrible, I use Alden Ehrenreich as my yardstick for who's a real star.

trishyb, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:03 (five years ago)

I use bloomps as a yardstick to beat radcliffe with tbf

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:05 (five years ago)

Have Radcliff and Bloomps been in a movie together yet? If not, what are they waiting for? We should put out a call to their management.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:08 (five years ago)

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/854ual5GJD4/maxresdefault.jpg lol they’ve never even been photographed together, this is the nearest I could find

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:17 (five years ago)

Wait why was Jake Gyllenhaall mentioned in the same breath as these chancers? Fuck off

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:19 (five years ago)

Thank god, reinforcements

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:27 (five years ago)

Yeah, Jake G. has been great in most things I've seen him in.

There are not that many name actors that have been terrible in *everything* they've been in, are there? Aside from b-actors famous for being bad? Even Mick Jagger and Sting have been good a couple of times, iirc.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:28 (five years ago)

Fantastic in Zodiac, good in most everything else I've seen.

clemenza, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:31 (five years ago)

There are two or three who are primarily actors who are successful, yes

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:31 (five years ago)

Katherine Heigl is way too goodlooking and goofy even in the two or three roles i can remember seeing her in to qualify tbh lads i cannot keep tapping the bar

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:34 (five years ago)

He’s no Heath but I really liked him in Brokeback Mountain.

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:35 (five years ago)

Dyknow who i would prob get mad at if anyone said it but who has actually flirted a few times with the bar is joey gordon levitt, who has been stylish in a few roles but the more i see him its eeeehhhhh

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:36 (five years ago)

He seems to have done his best work early.

Ryan Philippe seems to consistently get work and I don’t think I’ve ever liked him in anything?!

scampless, rattled and puce (gyac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:39 (five years ago)

He was noted earlier alright, not an awful shout

One where being so pretty might have covered him for a while but nope, bloom level charisma and ability under it

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:39 (five years ago)

Bloom is a tolerably goodlooking marshwiggle, like

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:40 (five years ago)

JG was great in that John Mulaney kids special

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 18:40 (five years ago)

Henry Cavill's a decent baddie in Mission Impossible, and I can't remember a single baddie in those movies except for Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Seth Rogen? Patchy after Undeclared, consistently terrible since Funny People

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:28 (five years ago)

He's not a *bad* actor but I've always hated watching/been bored by Frank Langella

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:30 (five years ago)

oh u watch his performance and Skeletor and say that u heathen!

Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:31 (five years ago)
