Amazing physical transformations coz he puts the work in.
Brings an uncannily identical absence of weight, charisma and talent to every role.
Could be replaced by a better actor in every job he's ever had.

I think Emma Stone is total garbage (although she was charming in Superbad)

Wanted to address this actually

She is smart, can deliver a tinny character or a snarky one, can be v charming

Without exception, every single time her character is called to show the ~real emotional core~ underneath she makes like a puking fox, absolutely awful

But cannot be considered because some talent as per first para

i cannot be convinced that gyllenhaal from end of watch and nightcrawler belongs in the category tbh

do his buggy eyes do a lot more work than people actually call out? Yep.

Are his two modes besides glassy exec presenting or moody teen? Yep, for the most part.

Like id hear out a case he is bad, overrated, etc but cant have him in the category

I'm a fan of Villeneuve even tho others are not and I enjoyed both noted-bad-actors Gyllenhaal and Jackman in Prisoners

Villeneuve has patchy movies with brilliant sequences through to movies i think are incredible start to finish, i havent actually noticed much of a pattern in terms of what he gets out of his actors (though gyllenhaal was good in prisoners, didnt think it was a good movie at all)

gyllenhaal is absolutely good in roles where he gets to lean into his weirdness like Nightcrawler and his delightful-yet-utterly-baffling appearance in John Mulaney's Sack Lunch Bunch. There's a reason Donnie Darko made him a star.

is ben whishaw popular? i mean he seems to get regular gigs but I don't get the impression he's anywhere close to the name recognition level of a Bloom. His biggest role to date afaict is Q.

Cavill mendelson cool presences, can do accents, can act either funny or straight roles, absolutely not near the running tbh

Whishaw was spellbinding (or spellbindingly well cast in a key role) in perfume

Violently disagree -- a hollow man. His American accent is awful, and his posh tones in Rogue One ("Am I still in coh-MAHND?") suggest why the Empire eventually lost to the Rebel Alliance.

Mendelsohn is very good. So is Guy Pearce.

Armie Hammer was terrific in Call Me By Your Name, just the right blond smugness.

Hammer's problem is that he's too conventionally handsome to be the decent utility-player character actor he is, so the money people keep trying to turn him into a movie star, which he will never be.
