Kilmer great in Top Secret, the only half-good thing in Top Gun, knows his lines in Heat, good for 12 seconds in True Romance, great in KKBB.

Maybe people who accidentally become good at acting in late middle age should be judged based on their tighter-skinned roles alone, once you can stand around with sufficient gravitas you can outclass your meager tricks

I love the number of celebrated thespians who have made appearances itt with nary a mention of like Schwarzenegger or Bruce Willis. Which is precisely as it should be imo (eg rewatched Twelve Monkeys the other night and goddamn if Willis didn't basically carry that entire movie on his shoulders).

I find the Radcliffe hate weird- is this all based on Harry Potter because good god the number of good performances in those movies ain’t much?

I’m reading this thread as the opposite of when I see credits to a film and a certain performer pops up and I think “oh cool they’re in it.” Seeing Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Along Came Polly” as opposed to Burt Reynolds in “Boogie Nights.”

Twelve Monkeys is a goddamn amazing performance from Bruce Willis and makes me extra irritated that he has never fully lived up to that potential in any other project.

You can tell from Moonlighting that he has tons of talent and versatility, and then he just coasted through virtually all of his movie career playing the same character. What a waste.
