There's a difference between a bad actor and a lazy actor, imo, and Harrison Ford is definitely a lazy actor (to the point of probably actually being baked 90% of the time). There was a period when he tried, but my theory has always been that when he didn't get any awards buzz for The Mosquito Coast, he decided he officially couldn't be arsed anymore and just settled for doing the smirk and the clawhand for the rest of his career.

Hopkins and Caine and Pacino and all those lads will definitely take major advantage of an inexperienced director to ham it up and go their own way, but they're all great when they're pulled into line by the right people, I think. They just haven't met the right people in a long time.
