Canon in Deez (silby), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:19 (five years ago)

All shapes and sizes of Jake Gyllenhaal leave me cold.

The Man, DeLorean (onimo), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:20 (five years ago)

acting is easy otm i still think i should've gone into it if it didn't require knowing other actors

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:20 (five years ago)

I watched Catch Me If You Can for the first time ever last weekend and, holy shit, Hanks has one of the worst film accents I've ever heard.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:20 (five years ago)

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:21 (five years ago)

lol ok I'll try to think of an actor I truly dislike

rob, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:21 (five years ago)

"The Ladykillers" (2004) are you kidding me

Canon in Deez (silby), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:21 (five years ago)

The key thing to remember here is that the rules which i made up are the rules, but ~also~ that they are made up

Imagine asking natalie portman to hold those thoughts in her v pretty head?

Thats ACTING BABY

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:22 (five years ago)

I like how it's ambiguous here whether the problem is that actors are not accessible to you or that you really just don't want to have to associate with them (or both)

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:22 (five years ago)

I thought I might get some good ideas from this list and the actors featured made me laugh for like a full thirty seconds: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_actors

Spoiler: Stan Lee is #1.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:22 (five years ago)

Now im actually not ilxing this evening, pls pls pls nominate only correct take from now on in this perfect thread

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:23 (five years ago)

Tom Hanks is a toughie inasmuch as he's been pretty good in about half the stuff he's been in and like grotesquely terrible in a lot of other stuff he's been in.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:23 (five years ago)

the only actor off the top of my head who has never ever worked for me in anything I've seen is paz de la heurta, and I can absolutely imagine her being great in the right role

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:23 (five years ago)

i will never be quiet

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:23 (five years ago)

yes tom hanks is truly terrible and should be killed immediately jude law is not and never will be 'hot'

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:24 (five years ago)

Qanondorf (darraghmac), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:25 (five years ago)

these are both empirically demonstrable

lol however if you know i live in nyc... you know which one it is

once worked with a guy who acted on the side. friendly exterior, totally empty sociopath within

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:25 (five years ago)

oh yeah actors are weird and have bad personal style in my experience

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:26 (five years ago)

actors also somehow more self-involved over their meager achievements than poets even, heads so far up their asses that they're like mobius strips of malignant narcissism, incredible

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:27 (five years ago)

sorry to any actors on ilx i am sure you are the exception that proves the rule

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:28 (five years ago)

jude law is fucking hot, silby otm

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:28 (five years ago)

"mobius strips of malignant narcissism" brad marry me

Canon in Deez (silby), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:29 (five years ago)

as the third best actor in a recent production of our town i would like to extend critical support to natalie portman

difficult listening hour, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:30 (five years ago)

I haven't seen him in a while but I know a guy who's an actor and, at various times, has been a main character in a couple of long running UK TV shows and he's a pretty down-to-earth bloke, not in the least precious.

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:32 (five years ago)

Stoke Newington and environs is full of actors though.

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:33 (five years ago)

i bet he wears weird ugly chinos tho

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:33 (five years ago)

harrison ford seems pretty down to earth, especially as a pilot

tiwa-nty one savage (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:34 (five years ago)

or like jeans that bunch at the shins with hightops

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:34 (five years ago)

soap actors and the like are probably (in general) the best adjusted professional actors, punch in punch out

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:34 (five years ago)

I’ve never fancied Jude Law but he’s been great in at least six things and is well above the Bloom bar

wangdalf the blight (gyac), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:35 (five years ago)

burt lancaster

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:36 (five years ago)

due respect to ILX but I refuse to call that guy anything but "orblando gloom" (thank you paul schneider)

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:36 (five years ago)

(xp lol)

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:36 (five years ago)

I don’t think MCU movies should be considered in this thread mostly because i don’t consider them movies

wangdalf the blight (gyac), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:37 (five years ago)

def laurence olivier

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:37 (five years ago)

burt lancaster is funny and good in Local Hero

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:37 (five years ago)

ryan o neill is the only person i've posted who has ever been good in anything

plax (ico), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:37 (five years ago)

Even excluding the MCU, I’ve seen at least 70% of all Portman movies and she’s bad in all of them, whereas I can’t say the same about Hanks or Jude Law or ScarJo.

Roz, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:38 (five years ago)

oic you're doing a bit xp

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:38 (five years ago)

Roz, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:39 (five years ago)

Will fight anyone trying it about Natalie Portman

The bar is Bloom

The bar is Bloom

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:43 (five years ago)

Burt Lancaster was terrible in the wrong movie, as usual, but good and often great in a good one.

There. I summed up the thread.

meticulously crafted, socially responsible, morally upsta (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:44 (five years ago)

do you actually have to have seen them in anything? if not, I nominate Eddie Redmayne

rob, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:44 (five years ago)

yes Eddie Redmayne is a horrible actor and The Danish Girl is in the running for most execrable moviewatching experience

meticulously crafted, socially responsible, morally upsta (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:45 (five years ago)

Burt Lancaster was great. You know who sucked? Kirk Douglas.

but also fuck you (unperson), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:45 (five years ago)

Beautiful Girls - great
Closer - great
V for Vendetta - terrible accent, great otherwise
Black Swan - ott but great

wangdalf the blight (gyac), Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:45 (five years ago)

Gonna nominate Shia LaBeouf and Andrew Garfield.

Darin, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 17:45 (five years ago)

I second this, because I’ve watched Jupiter Ascending. Made Bloom look like Gene Hackman.
