In statistics, mean, median, and mode are all known as measures of central tendency, and in colloquial usage any of these might be called an average value.

xps I'll just pick up a sympathy vote somewhere and it'll all cancel out.

i have. that article does a good job showing why it is engrossing to people as an experience. but this, i would think, would make the story Q is telling feel even more manufactured, more like a fantasy
― treeship., Monday, 1 February 2021 23:37 (five years ago)
xp
The original statement is a paraphrase of an old George Carlin joke: "You know how dumb the average person is? Well, half of them are even dumber than that!"

Thanks re transcript lol I didnt even think to look.
As to Waktins/8kin being Q, I thought that was basically common knowledge all along? I'd always assumed most sensible ppl knew 8chan made Q up as a joke. I neverunderstood why it got taken seriously when this had such clearly finable back-roots.

So many Q's and not enough A's.

DALE BERAN: Even today, I could put in, um, Q@Matlock. And then if I wanted to put a post on 4chan, it would appear exactly under Q’s old tripcode, which I did, to test it while I was writing the article. [laughs]PJ: Whoa, so you’ve also posted as Q?DALE: Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I mean, who hasn’t, really, at this point? [laughs]PJ: I mean I haven’t. What did you say?DALE: I don’t like looking at 4chan, ‘cause it’s full of gross stuff, so I, uh – there’s /pol/, which is the- the fascist board, and then there’s /po/, the paper, craft, and origami board. Uh, I went to /po/, um, and someone posted a nice piece of origami, and I posted as Q. I said, “Looks good.” [laughs]
PJ: Whoa, so you’ve also posted as Q?
DALE: Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I mean, who hasn’t, really, at this point? [laughs]

Read the whole transcript and its even more batshit than I'd surmised. But yeah its pretty clear it started as a joke - they didnt even know who was posting as Q half the time FFS - and then snowballed with a lot of ego in the mix.

yes, I know I'm derailing again, but this colloquial blurring is precisely the reason why conservatives love to cite average USA household income rather than median USA household income; the enormous income gains of the 1% pull the average up considerably even though income from wages has remained stagnant.

i agree it's infuriating but hopefully we can keep any other words that may be lying around out there meaning more than one thing from falling into the hands of dastards.

I haven't listened to a podcast since 2017, and I've hosted several of them lol. I was subjected to so much NPR as a kid that if I'm listening to anything, it isn't a bunch of people talking, it's music!

Am I alone in being disappointed when I have to listen to a podcast/watch a vlog to find out about a thing and I cant read about it.
― Alba, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 23:57 (five years ago)
I find it easier to focus on a written piece, and to organise my compulsion to zip off and further research little details. But I really enjoyed listening to the podcast of this story, and am fine with podcasts if I'm not actively researching something for work.
― Ray Cooney as "Crotch" (stevie), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 08:22 (five years ago)
I'm too impatient for podcasts, I think. Reading something is many times quicker than listening to it being spoken; I soon feel like I'm wasting time. (I'm also very bad at sitting down to watch a film.)

(lol, i meant to post this "hmmm, gee i wonder?" post here)
greene has continued to double-down on everything and i'm sure the conspiracy will expand to include all congressional republicans who vote to oust her from her committee positions (which, holy shit that she was ever give one in the first place). mccarthy gave her a choice: denounce Q or step down herself. she did what all Q people do: she doubled-down and refused to do either reasonable thing.
i guess greene's fate will go a long way toward answering this Q, but
Q: are more Q people going to run in the 2022 midterms? are some going to win? because imagine like THREE MTGs in congress!! lol

I stand by my prediction that one or more people who participated in the Capitol riot will be GOP congressional nominees in 2022.

it's not hard since you just need money and in some districts might be unopposed in yr race

― Wrong Screamed Barney (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:28 (five years ago)
xps - seems quite possible, especially in heavily democratic districts, where any serious GOP candidate would take a pass on running, but some Qninny is happy to pay the filing fee and spread the Gospel According to Crazy.
― Compromise isn't a principle, it's a method (Aimless), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:28 (five years ago)
i'm 100% certain they'll run, but the scenario i'm wondrin' about is whether any of them can win. because if even one or more does, this could get reaaaally fucking crazy
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:30 (five years ago)
under a more parliamentary government with multiple parties, we'd ALREADY have like a 5-10% share of Q reps
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:31 (five years ago)
or at least, i think that was true up until a couple weeks ago, the biden inauguration, the subsequent fracturing/rending of garments...and today, what's going on with MJT will go a long way toward determining the future of Q as a political...disaster?
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:32 (five years ago)
on the other hand, the Q way, and the way of the conspiratorial mind in general, is to double-down and continue evolving the story until there's a new mystery and a new persecutor
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:33 (five years ago)
A Qbeliever won the Republican nomination to run for US Senator in Oregon last year against Merkley. She won about 30% of the vote.
― Compromise isn't a principle, it's a method (Aimless), Wednesday, 3 February 2021 19:35 (five years ago)
they'd have to make some vague pro-2A, anti-abortion, pro-Q and yes, pro-Trump remarks, but it would be interesting for some non-trad candidates to run as charismatic weirdo "independents" in some of these historically uncontested districts in the south & west, and then when they get to DC just as quietly as possible fall in line w Justice Dems
i mean, you'd be recalled or murdered almost immediately but what a ride eh?

If it was like the Department of the Interior or something, sure, benefit of the doubt all the way. But not the military. The US military is riddled with Nazis and whack jobs of every stripe. I'd bet cash money that whoever's handling their social media thought this would be witty and cool and a nod/wink to "their people."
― but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 5 February 2021 13:48 (five years ago)
tbh I didn't associate that as a white supremacist phrase, so I wouldn't automatically assume the USMC's social media intern did.
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 5 February 2021 14:34 (five years ago)
yeah tbh I didn't realize that was a Q phrase and this is the problem with them repurposing garden-variety cliches, is that then when people say them you don't know if they are intentionally invoking Q or just innocently using a phrase they've used their entire lives.
which is to a degree by design to 'own the libs by confusing them' but oh i've gone crosseyed
