I do feel like I saw a few trees like that in Seville - likewise the red and white blocks

nashwan, Friday, 29 January 2021 12:22 (five years ago)

I ruled out Portugal because the sidewalk paving is too disconsolate. The place might be "untidy" but the sidewalks are spectacular

"the sidewalk paving is too disconsolate" is too beautiful a line *not* to have been in Robert Ashley's Private Parts.

"The poster has made the thread look stupid."

(ref to my fave line in "Perfect Lives", "the sculptor has made the horse look stupid", not a commentary.)

I'm really invested in knowing where the hell this is now! I'm sticking with northern Spanish city

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 29 January 2021 12:48 (five years ago)

Will post another view anon. This is hard mode, admittedly.

Going completely against the crowd and trying Cairns

or something, Friday, 29 January 2021 12:59 (five years ago)

Wow. I'm in Oz, so will have to think about that one.

Wish I'd waited for that pic before trying Cairns

Was about to say. Those trees lining the road: surely not Aussie.

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:07 (five years ago)

Bucharest?

Sven Vath's scary carpet (Neil S), Friday, 29 January 2021 13:08 (five years ago)

Spain or former Spanish colony

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:09 (five years ago)

Nah, it's too tidy for that. :)

Our churches are quite different too.

xp

pomenitul, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:10 (five years ago)

(to Neil S, in case there was any doubt)

pomenitul, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:10 (five years ago)

That's a Spanish no parking sign surely. I'll go Albacete.

nashwan, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:24 (five years ago)

Stop sign says Pare so Latin America is likely

All cars are bad (Euler), Friday, 29 January 2021 13:35 (five years ago)

100% South America, so thats the continent. Now to find the street

cherry blossom, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:36 (five years ago)

I've been thinking Andean plateau because of the way it seems cold but I've only been to Bolivia there, and only a handful of places there, and this isn't one of them. But the cars (old & small) match those I saw there. The pickup truck suggests something in the USA's orbit, and that this is not total poverty (so again, probably not Bolivia).

All cars are bad (Euler), Friday, 29 January 2021 13:42 (five years ago)

no cars like that in a reasonably affluent European country I don’t think

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Friday, 29 January 2021 13:44 (five years ago)

(or (some of) what Euler said)

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Friday, 29 January 2021 13:45 (five years ago)

Agree that the cars absolutely aren't well-off European, so I guess Spanish South American. But it's still cold, people are still wrapped up. Argentina? Uruguay?

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:49 (five years ago)

That's why I said Andean plateau. It's chilly to cold there year round, at least in many places, because it's so high up.

All cars are bad (Euler), Friday, 29 January 2021 13:57 (five years ago)

Unless this photo is from the 90s, I'm very confused by these cars. I did a bunch of street drops across Latin/South America and Bolivia was the only one that remotely matched

I swear to god I've seen those banners before, I thought maybe they were a cellphone provider name I'd seen elsewhere or something but it doesn't seem to be the case

flamboyant goon tie included, Friday, 29 January 2021 13:58 (five years ago)

the "accent mark" does look like a text bubble

rob, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:00 (five years ago)

yeah, what about that banner? on this one more letters are visible

I figured out the banners. It's for ANTEL, the state telecom company of Uruguay.

If you can guess a pop. 20,000 town in Uruguay within less than 24h based on two adjacent photos, then perhaps the true hard mode is a random nondescript highway in the middle of nowhere.

pomenitul, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:13 (five years ago)

last few times I tried geoguesser it was always like that: some random dirt road in rural Brazil or Australia or Russia, zero text anywhere, often no buildings

rob, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:14 (five years ago)

The first photo was impossible though, even if we'd been able to figure out the logo

The church was first on the list of "cathedrals in Uruguay"

cherry blossom, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:15 (five years ago)

I am less impressed with movie spies now I have to say

rob, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:16 (five years ago)

Respect to the owner of the green car. Maybe it belongs to the parish.

nashwan, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:19 (five years ago)

Looking at street view now that little green shed has moved

or something, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:19 (five years ago)

The church was first on the list of "cathedrals in Uruguay"

True. I should have posted the Museo Spikerman second and the Catedral last.

pomenitul, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:20 (five years ago)

First photo was at least enough to lean towards Spanish/Spanish heritage I think

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 29 January 2021 14:21 (five years ago)

perhaps the true hard mode is a random nondescript highway in the middle of nowhere.

Insofar as "random highways" I think this might actually be somewhat easy
