Served with blue cheese, broccoli, and Jell-O floaters?

I drank malort in Chicago with ILXors and liked it

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 22 January 2021 18:17 (five years ago)

Insult entirely necessary. Admitting I’m much closer to a Pete Buttigieg than a Table is the Table gay isn’t an endorsement of self by any means.

eric, it's an objective fact you aren't nearly as craven as p.b., even if you might share some sensibilities. we all have pretty normal levels of craven here afaict.

i would VERY MUCH love to order a round of malorts for chilxors, once we all get the vaccine

Karl Malone, Friday, 22 January 2021 18:24 (five years ago)

...and once it's safe to do so. you know what i mean

Karl Malone, Friday, 22 January 2021 18:25 (five years ago)

J3ss3 bought me the shot IIRC

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 22 January 2021 18:25 (five years ago)

I've had Malort! Several times. Tastes like Buttigieg

take it to ILTMI buddy

Überschadenfreude (sleeve), Friday, 22 January 2021 18:30 (five years ago)

I would have drinks with all of you gays. I'm actually a pretty nice guy who only occasionally rambles and rants like a stoned, angry visual theory professor at a second rate arts college, and I don't do that when I'm drinking. Mostly I make jokes and talk about dick.

US Politics Jan 2021: Guys Who Like Guys Go Drinking

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 22 January 2021 18:38 (five years ago)

Malort has made it a bit easier, because now they make both bourbon and hand sanitizer, too, so there are options.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 22 January 2021 18:41 (five years ago)

table I'm guessing that we have like 1 degree of separation in the West Coast trainhopping crusty anarcho dog-on-a-rope crowd, would drink w/u anytime

Überschadenfreude (sleeve), Friday, 22 January 2021 18:43 (five years ago)

Okay, I had to google Malort, will have to try it.
I did buy something called Rock & Rye in Chicago and it was really awful.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 22 January 2021 18:46 (five years ago)

Okay, I had to google Malort, will have to try it.

lol, so did i. though my drinking days are done, i would pop an edible, drink a lot of water and talk everyone's ears off.

I have like a third of a bottle left over from jjjusten's bachelor party

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 22 January 2021 18:52 (five years ago)

I was listening to a podcast this afternoon saying that some of teh pardons t issued were way too specific and this open to creating a lot of trouble for those he'd granted them to . Manafort having confessed to a few crimes he wasn't convicted of and him being pardoned for those crimes he was convicted of was one thing the presenter directly mentioned and something very similar with Stone.
Would be really great if it was that easy all around. Fingers crossed.

JUst really hoping that they are all just about to get a further comeuppance.
Any chance of that scandal from a couple of years ago concerning Chao and McConnell reappearing now that people are trying to make the idea of law mean something again.
& Kavanagh had a scandal I was hearing was likely to get investigated if the election went the right way I thgought.

anybody else about to face precarity over past lack of ethics.

Finally, he strikes me as the sort of person who would order the most expensive glass of pinot noir at a Cheesecake Factory.

treeship., Friday, 22 January 2021 18:57 (five years ago)

Hard to believe the US Politics thread went straight from high anxiety in the aftermath of an active insurrection to a mellow love-in. But it's nice to see, all the same.

I am very angry about the image of Buttigieg boning a glass of wine you put into my head

Tbh, I don't think PB would order Pinot Noir. He's more of a Sauvignon Blanc type of guy.

The return of our beloved potatoes (the table is the table), Friday, 22 January 2021 19:06 (five years ago)

and sleeve, I bet you're right— we probably know some of the same people...

finally, Aimless, re: my comment above about going to serve, my point was exactly what you surmised and summarized— to volunteer for a demonstrably evil war when one already has an undergraduate degree from Harvard is clearly a resume-building move for a future political career. It's nauseating.

splin-ter! splint-ter! splin-ter!

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is staring down just over a majority of House Republicans who support toppling the No. 3 House Republican from leadership after she voted to impeach now-former President Trump for inciting a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month.

According to reporting from Politico, at least 107 House Republicans have communicated to the leaders of that effort that they would support removing Cheney from leadership on a secret ballot, while others have threatened boycotting future conference meetings if she remains in power.

The intensifying campaign against Cheney, who called her decision to impeach Trump a “vote of conscience,” signals that Trump’s ideological stronghold on the party continues to echo in the chamber since his departure from office on Wednesday.

(given my dumb remarks yesterday, i feel i should clarify that i don't think either party is going to splinter any time in the next 4 years

Karl Malone, Friday, 22 January 2021 19:16 (five years ago)

I won't be surprised if they ditch Liz Cheney, it will play well with the base voters of every Republican in a safely gerrymandered district. I don't think it's a good move in a realpolitik sense, because I think the time for craven Trump pandering being a long-term good thing for the party ended Jan. 6, and a lot of the smarter Republican reps know it. But that's exactly what gerrymandering does, it fosters insular short-term thinking.

Senior Democratic lawmakers are moving to fulfill President Biden’s desire to expand the child tax credit by drafting legislation that would direct the Internal Revenue Service to send recurring monthly payments to tens of millions of American families, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share knowledge of the internal discussion.

Under one draft of the plan being discussed, the IRS would be tasked with depositing checks worth $300 every month per child younger than 6, as well as $250 every month per child aged 6 to 17. That would amount to $3,600 over the course of the year for young children, as well as $3,000 a year for older children, the officials said.

...

The benefit could prove costly, increasing the federal deficit by as much as $120 billion for one year, according to estimates by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan group. But it could curb child poverty in the U.S. by more than 50 percent, researchers at Columbia University have found.

hmm. tough choice.

Then people will just have more kids to get more money, right?

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 22 January 2021 19:28 (five years ago)

spencer cox, the new governor of utah, said biden's inaugural speech was "incredible" and then compared him to reagan, lol. i believe he also wants to fund public schools (gasp!). meanwhile billboards are encouraging commuters to spend money they don't have on skiing. probably following romney's lead, republicans in utah, the reddest of red states, seem unmoored. like.. you could just.. i don't know.. switch parties? christ. but they'd rather form a more purely eagle scout yahoo party than touch "socialism" with a ten foot pole. things aren't changing here so much as stuck in a republican era of the past. we need reeducation camps. $300 per kid per month would also do. - your dispatch from the boondocks

Liz Cheney, welcome to The Resistance

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 22 January 2021 19:30 (five years ago)

If the filibuster falls and the democrats go all out on an agenda that is weighted heavily toward economic justice, where the very popular center of US politics is, the republican party won't have to splinter in order to falter badly and be kicked to the curb. If the democrats permit the republicans to keep politics muddied, slow and ineffective, the nation and the world are screwed for decades to come. It is time to push all the chips into the pot.
