btw, I am not sure what job prospects are like where you are but it’s worth enquiring if any employers in your field/hiring for things you can do are taking advantage of the tax benefits in the CARES Act for companies that contribute payments to their employees’ student loan debt

i work for the state gov, so i qualify for forgiveness in 10 years for the vast majority of my loans. i know i have to be in a payment program to start the clock but i'm tight for a few months and need to pay some major taxes in april. also, probably getting a raise in july. so a few months of breathing room will help.

i am applying for forgiveness in 2 weeks and this has effectively meant that i got forgiveness about a year earlier than i would have. thx pandemic. map find out what your income based repayment would be--i paid $0 for the year after i was unemployed for a while and all those payments counted. (maybe you already know this but...)

i mean, don't delay being in a payment plan because this would count toward the 120 payments anyway if you start

still catching up on today's executive orders, any one of which would really be a banner day in us politics all by itself, in a "friends, let's pause the scuffle for one night - we just won a BIG win" kind of way. like... the muslim country travel ban got 86'ed!!

Everyone's just drunk and grumpy from toasting Trump's end, after not having drunk much this past year.

Whatever payment program you get on, please make sure you stay on top of whatever they ask of you and never, ever deviate from the terms. Never autopilot it; stay on top of all correspondence and make sure that your are meeting every payment you need to make, because otherwise they will kick you off of it and add any accrued interest to your principal and start charging you interest based on that.

btw I now work for a company that processes employer benefits around student loans, ama

true. my loan kept going to different servicers, which for a while resulted in my payment counts being wrong as data was not properly entered each time it got transferred. i didn't keep proof of it because what could possibly go wrong? then you can't log into the old servicer's system and i changed bank accounts, etc. fortunately a few months ago the new servicer fixed it on their own since they've been sued so many times. but i learned to keep my paperwork.

i have been reasonably ok about being on top of my student loans, but last year etc. just got off the phone with my servicer apparently all i need to do is fill out the pslf form.
