a dude comes in your house to play Atari. the only game you have is E.T.

It's awful and you and your friend hate playing it. But your mother is picking up the only game that is being carried at the local Pic 'n Save, Pole Position.

you're thrilled that it's a better game to play, but your friend points out that the game sucks. you laugh - yeah it kinda does. he repeats it. you laugh again. he repeats it five minutes later, even as you're both screaming at the TV cos CIA guy got you....again, or you got stuck at the bottom of a well and couldn't do the throat-expansion escape properly.

both of you begin to hate your existence - you don't want to play this shitty game, but you don't want to go OUTSIDE because that's boring ,and besides there are a lot of ET fans out there who don't like what you've been saying about the game, and are waiting to beat you up, so you keep playing it, dreaming of when the mediocre Pole Position will arrive. your friend keeps pointing out how C- that game is and how it's probably a waste of time, but you're starting to get annoyed now, because you know it's not a great game, but you are dying to play something that isn't fucking ET.

finally you let out a primal scream after you die again on ET and you destroy the game until there are shards of plastic wedged into all of your fingers and thumb and you are bleeding on the carpet, and your mom walks in, unfazed because this happens every Tuesday, and she has Pole Position. and you put it on and are feeling so much better that you don't have to play ET again, but your friend immediately starts harping on what a crap game Pole Position is and chastises you for moments of levity during the game.

Quiz question - why did u murder your friend? a "difference of opinion"?

No one was singled out, no specific references were made - so why would anyone not taking part assume the statement refers to them?

The "leftier than thou posture" is the usual excuse for ganging up here, but I've yet to see where anyone has called Biden celebrants (or Obama celebrants or etc.) bad people or anything of the like. It's more like just seeing "leftier" viewpoints is offensive in and of itself.

Joe Biden Stan Account (milo z), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 21:44 (five years ago)

what is "going outside" in this metaphor? xp

Canon in Deez (silby), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 21:44 (five years ago)

it's not so much a metaphor as a story that got out of hand

ok, so, new thread tomorrow, now that we just blew up this one?

In actually important news...

Biden Moves To Oust Top Labor Board Attorney Peter Robb

The Biden administration has asked for the resignation of the National Labor Relations Board’s general counsel, Trump-appointee Peter Robb, according to four people familiar with the decision.

The White House notified Robb of its decision by letter, which specified he had until 5 p.m. Wednesday to voluntarily resign or be fired, two people with knowledge of the correspondence said.

The NLRB enforces private-sector workers’ rights to organize, and its general counsel has sweeping authority to determine which types of cases the agency does or doesn’t pursue. Robb, a former management-side attorney who helped Ronald Reagan defeat the air traffic controller’s union, has pushed an aggressive, pro-business agenda at the labor board.

His term is slated to last until this coming November, but unions, including the Service Employees International Union and Communications Workers of America, have been urging Biden to break with precedent by forcing him out immediately, in order to begin reorienting the agency toward protecting workers.

Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 21:54 (five years ago)

Sorry, that was just needlessly shit-stirry of me. It's just frustrating when overtly/stridently leftist posters assume that others don't share or accept their views just because they aren't as overt/strident.

I like a lot of you and know that we're ostensibly on the same side, despite my more strident expression of certain views.

I also felt lighter this morning.

But I also don't think that stating that the US is an unredeemable project and we're all fools for playing along is totally out of bounds. I include myself in that category of foolishness.

Finally, because of the way Twitter and other social media works, I've found that sometimes my anger and frustration with popular narratives gets transferred to here, occasionally leading to strident and shitty posts. I'm going to work on that.

Glad those executive orders are going through. Hopefully more in the next days. And hopefully there's some sort of actual response to the pandemic soon.

I cannot view the US as an unredeemable project because I have children and, assuming I die before them, I can't in good conscience leave them with a country/world that wants them dead. It's my responsibility to do what I can to make both the world an easier place for them to live and for them to better protect themselves from the parts of it that want to harm them.

President Biden on the letter left for him by President Trump: “The president wrote a very generous letter.” He says he won’t get into details before talking with Trump.

freezing all new regulations

this has become a first day ritual when incoming presidents are of a different party. the next republican will do exactly the same. but, yes, it is good, especially in the present circumstances.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:51 (five years ago)
