multiple shirts violations

John Wesley Glasscock (Hadrian VIII), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 04:12 (five years ago)

given he's under federal investigation for fraud, it's hard to see how he didn't also commit a bunch of state crimes.

Can't rule out Bannon having some kompromat of his own.

The odds of these turds not committing more crimes in the next few years, while they still have even a sliver of the spotlight, are practically nil. From Trump on down. It'll be like OJ after he was acquitted.

Vladislav Bibidonurtmi (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 04:39 (five years ago)

Allegedly he keeps going back and forth. I guess my question is, is the idea that he gets pardoned but the rest of the people indicted with him...don't?

i think he was advised not to pardon anyone related to the 1/6/21 events, which eliminated a lot of people that were also related to other very obvious crimes

Pardoning Bannon is obviously terrible, but it's also almost poetic. If you were writing the play, that's how it has to end, Trump pardoning Bannon.

I give this lengthy joy of a thread. (Remember the lawyer at the insurance firm who was one of the first people identified/trashed on social media because he was so SO blatantly open about it, and who was almost immediately fired? He filed a thing. It's...a lot.)

OK. I promised you a thread on this batshit insane "Keep Trump as President for Life" lawsuit so here it is. The short summary is: "We think there may have been election law violations, so obviously there is no government" https://t.co/dQIuLBAvju

Interested to see what sort of spin the trumpistas put on this. I mean what could anyone possible say? He's pardoned the guy because he may prove useful in the future, that's it. It's beyond corrupt and hopefully will alienate some of the GOP senators

Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 05:14 (five years ago)

Thanks for that Ned. Stunning how out of it these people are.

Also: good morning!

Bannon's going to be the first to die after he blows up a Malibu rental cooking crank in the bathroom.

pardoning bannon for scamming maga donors... it's too perfect.

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 05:41 (five years ago)

This man's whole life is in shambles because he got mad at Seth Meyers and Barack Obama roasting him. Could've just been grifting in peace for the rest of his life. Whole family hated. Ruined his teen son's life. Just incredible.

73 pardons, 70 commutations. I don't doubt the theory that he'll save a few of the biggest for tomorrow, as a way to hijack a few last-minute headlines.

clemenza, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 06:13 (five years ago)

That was an epic trump takedown thread

I don’t find this pardon list very surprising or even that objectionable. Bannon ripped off rubes who deserved to lose their money. I’m sure he’ll do something else illegal soon anyway

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 06:20 (five years ago)

The full list:

As I scrolled through the names, I initially read Lou Hobbs as Lou Dobbs--seemed to make sense. The explanation attached to Bannon is very short and oddly unpersuasive.

President Trump granted a full pardon to Stephen Bannon. Prosecutors pursued Mr. Bannon with charges related to fraud stemming from his involvement in a political project. Mr. Bannon has been an important leader in the conservative movement and is known for his political acumen.

This is fine

Dr. Scott Harkonen – President Trump granted a full pardon Dr. Scott Harkonen. Dr. Harkonen was convicted of fraud based on a misleading caption in a press release with respect to a treatment for a disease. Dr. Harkonen is world renowned for his discovery of a new kidney disease, as well as its cause and treatment. Dr. Harkonen looks forward to returning to medicine.

in no way applauding the monster but there are a good deal of pardons to non-violent drug offenders. Notable pardons are unsurprising trash.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 07:49 (five years ago)

So glad Bannon saw the error of his ways and has had the time to feel remorse. Hope he's not going to feel so instutionalsed by his long prison stay that he goes out to commit more crimes to get himself reincarcerated. Do hope that wouldn't be true of any of his buddies either.

I mean old habits die hard and all.
Are bookies running odds yet.

Stevolende, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 07:52 (five years ago)

So, by issuing these pardons, does Trump metaphorically take on the guilt of those pardoned?

(I know..)

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 08:07 (five years ago)

Focusing on entirely the wrong thing, I know, but smh a bit at "last-minute decision made hours before he’s scheduled to leave the WH".

anatol_merklich, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 09:29 (five years ago)

in the list of pardons I initially mixed up Pelletier with (Leonard) Peltier, but no.

StanM, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 09:55 (five years ago)

very badly conceived sentence, but about as late as he could email "URGENT" to subordinates, regardless of what time the bloke in the rentavan comes around to take the boxes marked "kitchen stuff" and "blankets" the next morning

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 09:55 (five years ago)

That thread above about how trump ruined his life because he was butthurt over being sonned by Obama in a press correspondents dinner beef is intriguing, because the main thrust of that YOU DECIDE documentary that ran just before the 2016 election on US TV laid also out that moment as Trump's motivating moment, the cataclysm that set him on course for the presidency, and it's interesting how quickly everything has fallen apart for him - and how, for so many of us, that falling apart wasn't necessarily inevitable. That moment, now seen as the engine of Trump's destruction, was for four or so years regarded as the motivator for his success.
