CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story misstated that Trump is 'isolated.' In fact, Trump is 'increasingly isolated'.

I don't know how journalists can continue to use the phrase 'increasingly isolated' in good conscience or with a straight face.

Luke Mogelson in the New Yorker goes long on the Capitol riot and some of the Stop the Steal rallies that led up to it. Lots of detailed on-the-scene reporting. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/01/25/among-the-insurrectionists

Re: that Pew Pew Pew poll, I've got to assume Biden's people see the same numbers and will advise caution when considering cooperation.

I couldn't make it through that NYer article. So much unfocused, STUPID rage.

DJI, Friday, 15 January 2021 17:02 (five years ago)

The new Post poll has some awful findings among Republicans:

51% say GOP leaders didn't go far enough in nullifying election

56% say Trump bears zero blame for the insurrection

66% say he has acted responsibly

Behold the GOP's authoritarian core:https://t.co/GUjwDOc7g3

^yeah honestly I would have hazarded higher percentages in those categories, and it’s too early for alcohol induced doom-posting for me

I dunno, those numbers make me fairly optimistic. Those are way lower percentages than I would've expected, and I can't help but feel that they'll drop further the longer Trump is out of the daily spotlight. Which isn't to say that the party as a whole isn't garbage or that that particular subset of people aren't scary as fuck.

re Porter — absolutely enraging. Yes please keep sidelining the 15% of your caucus that isn’t trash

This is extraordinarily bad news. Dunn has done PR for...
- Harvey Weinstein re: sexual assault expose (yes, really.)
- Keystone XL pipeline
- Hedge funds post-2008
- Charter school lobby
- NYC landlords/real estate groups to lobby against rent protectionshttps://t.co/VpLBfNKseA

Such incredible self-absorption and lack of self-awareness in that article.

not to be a negative nancy, but...do you think rising authoritarians/fascists in the GOP are going to idly stand by as trump is out of the spotlight and all of the rage they spent decades fomenting slowly dissipates over several months? if i was a rising authoritarian/fascist, i would recognize that as a time to step up and be the thing that everyone has been worried about since 2016: a competent US fascist

Same reason they are still - STILL - going to folksy diners in rural areas to find out what makes Trump supporters tick.

Trump is increasingly isolated from folksy folks in rural diners like this one.

O and that thing about Betsy Ross flag sucks. That's not why I have one.

I have one because I like to remember when all the states were East Coast states, and all the voters were highly educated coastal elites.

democrats and people with a conscience in MO fucking hate Hawley. so that's around 45% in MO, tops. the majority are dumbass conservatives, and any dissatisfaction they have with Hawley will only lessen over time as we continue through whatever gigantic world-ending Biden controversy they're going to cook up this year
