murdoch's post-vaccine visit to new york to determine the post-trump future of fox news is some shakespearean shit

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 14 January 2021 21:00 (three years ago) link

A nasty Covid case would be the most benign thing that Murdoch has brought to this country

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 14 January 2021 21:02 (three years ago) link

I think getting the vaccine does not mean you can’t still spread it. Should work out fine!

Boring United Methodist Church (Boring, Maryland), Thursday, 14 January 2021 21:03 (three years ago) link

totally. also doesn’t mean you can’t get it! what was it something like 4-5%?

calling bullshit on rupert flying to NYC to fix things. isn't it an open secret in london media that rupert murdoch has advanced dementia and is not involved in the business any more? there's tons of news attributed to him but he hasn't made public remarks on camera for like 3 years.

cc suzy i guess?

Apparently all that stuff was loaners from museums, etc., and that happens with every administration.

Yeah that's the guy I complained about on the previous thread. He was on Anderson Cooper 360 as a self-proclaimed "left-wing activist" but this guy did nothing but encourage more violence and destruction. Looks like he has a history of opportunism and creating situations that he could profit out of him.

Very dumb to do $1400 checks and explain that $2000 included the $600 you got with Trump's name on it.

Joe Biden Stan Account (milo z), Friday, 15 January 2021 04:36 (three years ago) link

In the universe of things that can be called "very dumb", I'm not sure that is an outstanding example.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Friday, 15 January 2021 04:45 (three years ago) link

No doubt Republicans will beat them over the head with whines of "$1400 isn't $2000!" but if Biden can get another stimulus check (or more than one) passed later in 2020 it won't be a very effective tactic. And the COVID relief package Biden's proposing looks pretty damn ambitious. I admit I'm curious to know how they're planning to deal with McConnell torpedoing 100% of everything they attempt with the filibuster though.

President-Elect Biden served in he Senate for over 35 years. So he knows the plan he outlined tonight can’t pass “quickly” & will delay the 2k for hard hit Americans.

Let’s get the extra money to people first.

Americans are pretty dumb but also money obsessed. I think they can figure out 600 + 1400 = 2000

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2021 05:03 (three years ago) link

Plus, the $2000 amount still has the magical Trump Mark of Approval, which makes it harder for Republicans to knock it down. It's still the same political equation that applied just before the GA runoffs, except now the Republicans are staring at having lost in large part due to stalling the full $2000. It might not be entirely "very dumb" to repeat the play that won you the Senate.

I admit I'm curious to know how they're planning to deal with McConnell torpedoing 100% of everything they attempt with the filibuster though.

Sanders leads the budget committee now, and has signaled he would do it though reconciliation, requiring only 50 votes. Same as republican tax bill of 2017, as well as Obamacare

Karl Malone, Friday, 15 January 2021 05:21 (three years ago) link

the left wing of the party completely willed these checks into existence, there was absolutely no interest in doing them from the party leadership, will be interesting to see how the left reacts to this centrist arithmetic, especially considering the $2000 was proposed under trump, its not particularly the ideal amount for continued survival, biden et al seem happy to pick up a couple senate seats off the idea move on
