Weird - I cut off too much of the URL. And HA, that actually was in my thoughts when trimming the URL.

Pro tip: The Facebook/Twitter tracking junk in URLs usually comes after a "?" Delete the stuff after the question mark, keep the stuff before it.

I thought the gathered evidence was all over the place after teh last 4 years. Crimes done in plain sight might just be seen like.

These photos of young National Guard guys in the Capitol are oddly touching:

doesn't seem like 30 seconds is enough for anyone unfortunately. can't they be given longer?

Stevolende, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 19:38 (five years ago)

Republicans like the last guy who say they'll vote against but slip in that Trump "exercised poor judgement," I wonder if he'll turn on them, too. 100% subservience or nothing.

clemenza, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 19:41 (five years ago)

If you're wondering whether Donald Trump will eventually turn on you, the answer is yes.

Those 30 second slots while the nation is actually paying attention are highly coveted. All the real debate takes place outside the chamber, in caucus, in the cloakroom, in hallways, on phone calls. These tiny speeches are rewards carefully doled out; they put a public face on the debate, but they change nothing in terms of voting. And the Republican ones are carefully rolled balls of dung.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 19:46 (five years ago)

dung's right.
JUst thought it wasn't great that everybody speaking was being told taht their time was over before tehy finished .
BUt if that's a tradition or something I guess they probably know what they're doing.

Feels to me like the Capitol breach was likely an attempt at suicide-by-cop by some/many.

I don't know that I buy this because a) some of these guys were cops or former cops or affiliated and, b) so many of them were 100% convinced that they were doing the right and patriotic thing that those arrested are flabbergasted to be facing any consequences at all. None of that scans as a "suicide-by-cop" to me at all.

Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 20:03 (five years ago)

For Stevolende: The debate time is assigned to each party and is usually equal for each. It is granted in total to one representative in the leadership who is that party's designated manager for the debate. The manager then yields bits and pieces of the allowed time to their chosen speaker. Afterward they "reserve" their time to declare they still want it and aren't done. It's all very 'standard practice'.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 20:07 (five years ago)

cannot imagine watching speeches in congress. wtf is wrong with you all.

i yield my time fuck you.

I'm sure some of them thought they'd get off scot free, but prior to last week, I would certainly have expected to get murked if ever I decided to riot through the Capitol. We've all learned some things since then, though, I guess. Well, most of us. Well, some of us.

some of these militia folks do have a 'ride or die, death or glory' fetish and if they don't get to get mowed down their way of choosing, perhaps they take an alternate route.

According to 538, Trump's approval rating has plunged to... 40.0%

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 20:28 (five years ago)

it's pretty incredible considering prior to the passing of the new tax code, he was for a time hovering in the low 30s, and after that reform passed, he has pretty much seen 40% as his floor...EVEN AFTER THE EVENTS OF THE LAST TWO MONTHS. some individual pollsters have shown a decline, but tbh any approval rating over 1% is too high

Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 20:30 (five years ago)

He could ritually slay newborn babies and consume then live in primetime while standing on a pile of Republican voter corpses and his approval rating would still be 40%.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 20:30 (five years ago)

Besides the whataboutism wrt to the protests last summer being complete and utter bullshit, how long are we going to have to listen to that as a one-size-fits-all excuse for the GOP to pull awful things?

The acting Prime Minister of Australia was asked this week about the attempt to overthrow the US Government, a major ally of the country, who share intelligence and have dozens of unmonitored spy bases across the continent. He said it was a shame it turned violent, because that lowered it to the level of the "race riots" last year.
