Shouldn't admit it, but for some reason I think I can do a pretty good imitation of the Jim Jordan type. Doesn't go over well though.

Cool, cool. Seems like she should be arrested for this, but I guess they all just want a repeat of last week at this point.

This impeachment...has something to do with Chuck Yeager and the moon landing.

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan is railing against "cancel culture," saying that Democrats want to "cancel" Trump and that only one side is being allowed to talk and participate in debate. (He is, clearly, currently talking and participating in debate.)

it blows a major hole in the GOP's entire defense of him up to now, that the more Trumpy aspects of his administration (like the constant lying, whining, propaganda and dangerous rhetoric) were actually harmless and that his followers are just God-fearing freedom-loving Patriots who take him "seriously, not literally". the thing that irritated me to no end was all the talk about "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and how the people who hated him really just didn't like his brash and manly personality. and if not for this they'd probably use that argument for the next few decades.

lol McCarthy just said that "winning everything in sight" calls for "magnanimity from the victors" (i.e. Dems). The gall of these guys.

Also, McClintock wearing a mask that says "This mask is as useless as our governor." Just a bunch of crybabies.

Feeling pretty adamant rn that elected officials need to meet some kind of basic social-emotional development threshold before they're allowed to take office. Ensure that they're further along than your average three-year-old before they start making big-boy decisions, y'know, that kind of thing. It's kind of a serious problem.

Gohmert says Democrats are impeaching Trump "on a whim" because they couldn't before. Didn't something important happen last week?

BrianB, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 18:04 (five years ago)

Like Trump, the blame for how these ppl managed to obtain these positions of power lies with voters. If voters have no emotional maturity or ethics, slim to none chance that those they vote for will either.

Ya think?

Next Time Might Be Hammer Time (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 18:09 (five years ago)

I mean, the fact that we have at least two full blown, vocal QAnon supporters in the House says a lot about low the voters' bar lies.

Ya I know it's obv point, yet I often see statements like OLs. Perhaps it's just to let off steam. Just boggles the mind that these are the best people communities were able to find to represent them.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 18:12 (five years ago)

It's the voters but also the gerrymandering, which is a pretty important part of how we got here.

MyPillow, a bedding company, is still offering a “FightForTrump” discount code for its products despite other companies trying to distance themselves from President Trump following last week's Capitol riot.

Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, has been a long time supporter of Trump. The “FightForTrump” discount code went up last Wednesday, the day the Capitol was attacked.

Jeff Van Drew. And he's no longer a Democrat. He switched parties in 2019.

Weeks before a mob of President Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, right-wing activist Ali Alexander told his followers he was planning something big for Jan. 6.

Alexander, who organized the “Stop the Steal” movement, said he hatched the plan — coinciding with Congress’s vote to certify the electoral college votes — alongside three GOP lawmakers: Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Mo Brooks (Ala.) and Paul A. Gosar (Ariz.), all hard-line Trump supporters.

“We four schemed up of putting maximum pressure on Congress while they were voting,” Alexander said in a since-deleted video on Periscope highlighted by the Project on Government Oversight, an investigative nonprofit. The plan, he said, was to “change the hearts and the minds of Republicans who were in that body, hearing our loud roar from outside.”

House Republican argument basically boils down to "Democrats brought this riot on themselves by not doing what our voters wanted, and this impeachment is going to make them even madder. You should be as afraid of them as we are"

BrianB, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 18:31 (five years ago)

there's also a particularly vacant sub-argument they keep returning to, which is:

1. democrats were talking about impeaching trump on day 1
2. democrats impeached him last year
3. and now, democrats are impeaching him again

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 18:34 (five years ago)

yes. yes. and yes. man, trump fucking blows

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 18:34 (five years ago)

They were talking about impeaching him on day 1 because of credible reports of Russian election interference. They actually impeached him in 2019 because of attempted election interference. And they are impeaching him again today because of still more attempted election interference.

There is indeed a through-narrative here, but it's not "Democrats will try anything to try to get Trump."

It's like when they say that the media is always unfairly attacking Trump, when they are actually just reporting on the things he says and does. He really is just that bad of a person.

Their arguments are shit because they have no real defense of Trump or themselves. Some of them are dumb as shit so believe they are making good points but others know they don't hold water but the whataboutism and pleas for unity are all they've got. Throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.
