if that thing about trump thinking the guard would protect his rioters is more than a rumour, and provable (to rational people) - it would certainly make it a lot harder for some of these shitbird republicans to stand behind him. or in front of him.

i am skeptical that delaying the impeachment trial is an idea being promoted in good faith rather than an attempt to move on, but one side effect of it seems like it will be prosecutable substance to what seems pretty obvious by now: the white house actively collaborated with the mob and blocked attempts to stop them.

The most significant, shocking (pandemic significant but been a slow burn without true shocking moments) event since 9/11 and the loud mouth, attention-loving President has basically ghosted the country. This is him inadvertently, indirectly admitting his guilt in still supporting the mob after the nation was horrified, and possibly even still. What sort of non-sociopathic, non-supremely-fucked-up human would respond this way? The Twitter ban is so impactful cause he's too chickenshit to attempt a live address so far. Maybe he's working up the nerve.

honestly I've never wanted to live to be Medicare-aged, one of the few consistent beliefs between my young adulthood and now.

the scale of it, it's daunting. there are some "big questions" that i fear are so big and obvious that they'll never be addressed. for example, what do you do when the president is an obvious criminal autocrat and the people closest to him are responding by protecting him and you can't impeach him?

what i mean is, what kind of reform will prevent that from happening? reform that republicans are willing to join?

one of the reasons I fired my last therapist is because I was crippled with fear about the new (at the time) Trump administration and she kept assuaging my fear by reminding me that Trump had checks and balances. I just wanted to scream "DO THESE LOOK LIKE CHECKS AND BALANCES TO YOU?"

the whole American system of government requires people agreeing to do things and all Republicans do is refuse to do things

I'm still stuck on the national guard thing. There's "reports" that Trump resisted and was thus Pence did an end run around him. But no "official" word this was the case? Given that he was itching to send in the Guard last summer, this seems damning wrt to being an impeachable/firing squadable on its own.
