It's a little funny to remember that about a week ago Hawley was complaining about some crew of protestors allegedly scaring his wife or something and it almost became a thing for a hot second.

I think the charitable interpretation is they know the senate will not take it up until it’s back in session after the inauguration, so there’s no rush.

Finding it really hard not to see things in mannichean terms here, with the confederacy as a kind of eternal evil force that keeps rearing its head again. I generally don't like to see the world in those terms and think there are huge flaws in doing so, but it feels that way right now.

I guess im asking whether there's any line of thought says that the restraint (however it manifested itself, but taking the unwillingness to have serious strength in place ready to go) is A Bad Thing, or a delaying of the necessary inevitable, or wouldve been regrettable but would sure have helped pin the wavering republicans now or just flat out wouldve been awesome

honestly, when i saw the thing about the officer leading the terrorists/rioters/etc away from the senate, i was like - "oh that's great work".
then someone said that the senate is where you'd get blown away instantly and there was likely officers with automatic weapons in there and my gut reaction was, "aw shame."
obviously you want to avoid that level of violence, but part of me really felt like, hell, they'd deserve it – a hallway of angry, yelling ignorant racists getting turned into hamburger meat in seconds.

I think I would hate rather than love to see the National Guard opening it up with live rounds on armed right wing insurrectionists, is my first reaction
