man alive, am I remembering correctly that you’re Jewish?

these apologies are getting more and more pathetic. just admit you'd do it again if you could avoid being arrested

Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:18 (five years ago)

I mean sure, I don't think the guys in the 6MWE and Camp Auschwitz tees are coming to my neighborhood tomorrow. Or to my parents neighborhood in DC - it's too far to walk from the Capitol. Although my dad, formerly clergy, has gotten antisemitic death threats a couple times in the course of his life so who knows?

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:18 (five years ago)

xps part of the reason I ask is because of situations like that currently faced by water protectors here in MN, where oil pipeline workers (ostensibly ordinary people, not pols or cops) follow activists around and threaten them, try to run them over or run them off roads, show up at their homes at all hours, etc.

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:19 (five years ago)

for example this anishinaabe activist

Leaving the Mississippi River tonight, 2 pipeline workers followed me for 40 miles - 1 was shining their brights & tailgating, the other kept hitting their brakes.

Standing up for the water is dangerous. Surveillance, harassment, threats to personal safety are commonplace.

In re the comment about "they're not coming to your house," tbh targeted home assassinations seem like a more real threat to me than either outright civil war or a nationwide fascist takeover. I keep telling people that a bunch of small militia groups, or even large militia groups, can't take over Rhode Island, much less the U.S., but small militia groups absolutely can wage a long-running insurgency including killing individual political/civic/community/media leaders.

Also it's the exact template used by the KKK for years.

^^^exactly what I'm talking about

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:23 (five years ago)

I mean, right now I'm no one. If I somehow got embroiled in some public spate over something though, I could be targeted just as easily as anyone. It's happened to similarly anonymous people.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:26 (five years ago)

it's pretty damn easy to find out where people live and work these days

v much agreed on targeted assassinations or even just harassment and intimidation.

what are you gonna do,,, call the copssss haha fuck everything

p much why i get nervous about mucking it up with strangers. I got threatened by some crazed ex-military guy (he was a radio operator yet talked about his service like he was Seal Team 6), and I realized moments later that my voter registration with my active address was online. I had it removed but there's many other places he could find it with a unique name like mine.

Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:30 (five years ago)

(turned out a boxer friend of mine knows him and says he owes him money and to call him up if he ever threatens me again so)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:33 (five years ago)

I had a very unhinged dude (who posted under a moniker) in a neighborhood facebook group come at me with threats, and though it was 99% likely to be bullshit I decided enough mixing it up with those people online.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:34 (five years ago)

the "who is in on it" piece is the scariest part. it's nothing new in this country - obviously, we've had (and still have) law enforcement/government agents that are part of white supremacist groups. our own President is a racist white supremacist. that's horrifying enough as it is, esp given the sheer volume of police that are right wing extremists and racists.

but now add on top of that high ranking military officials, possibly the ATTORNEY GENERAL OF ALABAMA, and other people installed in key places that were either willful participants in a coup, or were ok sitting idly by while it happened....just makes you wonder if you can root them out in time to prevent something even more devastating occurring.

― Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Sunday, January 10, 2021 8:14 AM (thirteen minutes ago)

I know this is old news but it demands repeating: the rot goes all the way up to the top branches of the Federal Government: Ginni Thomas, wife of SCJ Clarence Thomas, personally funded the transport of these "fine folks" from rural states. There's no way that Clarence Thomas should remain in his "impartial" position with that degree of absolute rot in his own home.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:36 (five years ago)

hadn't heard that Ginni Thomas news, yeah he needs to go too

Überschadenfreude (sleeve), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:40 (five years ago)

xpost I mean, of course it does! These people have been ignored or enabled or active encouraged for years! That's the horror of it all, people like Ginni Thomas have been known quantities all along. This is why these lunatics felt comfortable posing for selfies as they looted the capitol. They've faced no repercussions for years unless they actually murder lots of people, and even then they're sort of slow walked through the justice system.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:41 (five years ago)

is the Ginni Thomas thing getting any real traction on cable news or the Sunday morning knob jobs?

Okay on review you are all correct and I should have known that from just basic history.

I guess my sense of proportionality is still faltering on...the disenfranchisement and resource denial/extraction stuff has been hurting & killing people forever, and has just been--I don't want to say ignored, but...hasn't been stopped? But now that white people invaded the seat of our government (which is already not representative of most people in this country) it changes who feels threatened? I'm hung up.

Here she is two years ago:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/what-is-ginni-thomas-saying-now-the-evolution-of-an-unusually-outspoken-supreme-court-spouse/2018/12/26/883da960-f753-11e8-8c9a-860ce2a8148f_story.html

She looks and sounds like the Washington wife of yore, with the pearl earrings, the Reagan-red cocktail attire, the sunglasses tiara’d atop her blond bob. At the holidays, she lays wreaths at Arlington and sings carols around the piano with her be-sweatered husband, Clarence, who happens to be the longest-serving justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. Memorial Day means a backyard barbecue with star-spangled tablecloths and a sheet cake that reads “God Bless America!”

But meanwhile, on Facebook, she’s behaving like your slightly paranoid neighbor who stockpiles bullets and astronaut food.

This month, Ginni Thomas shared a Facebook post that bizarrely described California as a war zone, with illegal immigrants scaling walls and carjacking U.S. citizens. Last month, she shared a post alleging that Democrats committed voter fraud in four midterm races. (Which ones? How? She didn’t say.) Then there was the post in August (since deleted) proclaiming that teenage survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting are “dangerous to the survival of our nation” because of their gun-control activism. And the post in February that harangued Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for supposedly wiretapping Donald Trump — a baseless accusation indulged in only by conspiracy theorists.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:43 (five years ago)

thank you for sharing that Albert.

It seems to me passing the impeachment now but holding off sending it to the Senate is too much gamesmanship. It happened now, it deserves immediate response, deal with it up or down while the outrage is still fresh. An impeachment trial won't be any less disruptive to Biden in 100 days than right at the start, and that way it's off the agenda and out of the way.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:46 (five years ago)

Yeah, a loser and a half, and one about to lose her ability to check in at the WH for a good long while I suspect.

Meantime, this thread is a journey.

It is worth noting that without a major cloud infrastructure like AWS or Azure, Parler will be a sitting duck at the scale required for a large social network. They don't have feasible options, and absolutely none possible in a single day.

I saw someone float the idea of invoking the 14th amendment, too, specifically section 3:

Section 3

No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

Dunno if that applies to the president at all, but it certainly applies to just about everyone else in gov.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:49 (five years ago)

Biden should promise pardons if certain agitating R Senators and Reps step down and then just not give it to them

Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:51 (five years ago)

Yeah I have to say I'm not particularly impressed when I hear people say "can you believe a state legislator did x?" Those are the most podunk positions and there are all kinds of freaks and losers in state legislatures, unfortunately.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:51 (five years ago)

yeah state legislatures have way more sitting QAnon, white supremacists, etc, though Congress seems to be getting more of those as well

Yeah, so you are likely mirroring my headspace

Given that we are literally in an environment where fascists are attempting to overthrow a democratically-elected government with help from people in the government, could everyone please shut the fuck up with “there not gonna come into your home” because that has not been true in any country where this shit has happened.

think we could all do with not ganging up on people who merely express the thought of owning a gun in the "are you considering purchasing a gun?" thread, for the reasons annotated above.

Looking for Cape Penis house (Neanderthal), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:57 (five years ago)

Right, I mean a lot of the reason my family is here is because of the threat of people coming to their homes, and had they stuck around it would have happened, so I'll err on the side of overreaction.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:58 (five years ago)
