Verily the reckoning is upon us.

thought it was weird when Murk didn’t vote in favor of removal last year.

"However, the police are NOT Our enemy", I guess some truth buried in the madness.

re Apple: the lone, faint silver lining to capital's primacy...its worst perpetrators need shit to not *completely* fall apart

I have some foreboding that a lot of calculations being made rn are still from a place of normalcy, But something was definitely amiss the other day. Security failed because their will to be the enforcers seemed compromised. If the rumoured armed mass militias actually materialize on Inauguration Day, with Trump safely elsewhere, what is the confidence that all enforcement that day will have a different level of will and absence of “sympathies” to escalate appropriately, to do whatever it takes to shut it down? People tagging FBI and notables on posts to alert them on Twitter etc. like it’s all going to make the usual difference that it *should*.
I’m not sure I’m liking my math on this.

I was about to say “well shit Pence could give her that” but I suppose he woulda been wiped by literally anyone who was on the Democratic debate stage

This suggests that bringing impeachment directly to the floor, without any committee activity, is on the table. It would move on a very fast track. https://t.co/ZR5qrxuJC7

This kind of simultaneous pushback from a multitude of entities, while welcome, might have prevented a whole lot of shit had it come way way way way way way sooner (instead of everyone being all 'oh, you alt-right rascals! you're incorrigible!' for YEARS).

Meat Chew All the Way (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 January 2021 23:14 (five years ago)

maybe Capitol security could be farmed out to a private firm. Maybe a newly chastened Academi (x Blackwater) can get it, as part of a compromise bill that gets direct stim checks in the hands of most Americans

Also Twitter user Mike Barthel is a former ilxor and was my RA at nerd camp when I was a teen, he is great.

Pere Legume (the table is the table), Friday, 8 January 2021 23:20 (five years ago)

Well.

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.https://t.co/CBpE1I6j8Y

god it is so incredible to me the extent to which Donald Trump fucked this up. had he passed $2,000 checks there's a good chance he would've squeaked by just enough votes to win the Electoral College and been enshrined as the harbinger of permanent Republican rule but instead he's about to get impeached for insurrection the same week he singlehandedly cost Republicans the Senate while simultaneously getting his entire movement deplatformed as fast as possible

it was the _close_ review that enabled them to make this timely decision

well done twitter! lol

Karl Malone, Friday, 8 January 2021 23:29 (five years ago)

Parler won't be much use -- Apple just a little earlier told them "Hey you know, you're in violation of your own supposed policies so you have 24 hours or we're kicking you off the Apple Store."

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 January 2021 23:30 (five years ago)

twitter waited to suspend him until the military promised not launch nukes at trump's behest

we'll see if the news channels have the spine to continue the deplatforming and not carry his bullshit

k3vin k., Friday, 8 January 2021 23:33 (five years ago)

As that article about the "Turner Diaries" makes plain, the craziness Trump amped up in the past four years and the protection he extended to extremist groups won't be put back into the bottle any time soon and now that they've succeeded in exposing the vulnerability of the government to guerilla attack, their recruitment efforts have a HUGE propaganda win they can wave as a flag to rally around. This isn't over and Twitter, Apple and Facebook moving against them now is weak beer.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Friday, 8 January 2021 23:33 (five years ago)

Trump can still send a presidential alert to everyone's phones right

The fucking accuracy

P.S. As a message board kid, it's hilarious to watch the actual president get permabanned. He's every poster who ever had 90,000 karma points and got axed after a 745 page thread called "here's what's wrong with this forum."
