The guy* who filmed the (NSFW obvs) video hosted on WAPO of Ashli Babbit getting shot should be partially held responsible for her death. In the video you hear him talking the Lobby guards into leaving their post in front of the doors and then once they leave he starts encouraging the insurrectors/terrorists to break down the doors!

(*described in WAPO as John Sullivan, a liberal activist who shoots video at a range of protests and who filmed the footage on Wednesday)

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 8 January 2021 21:30 (five years ago)

It's absolutely psychotic... he feigns this empathetic nature with the guards ("Bro, there are more people coming up here and we don't want you guys to get hurt) and then as soon as they leave he immediately pivots to "All right guys, now have at it!"

my paraphrases, I didn't want to rewatch.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 8 January 2021 21:32 (five years ago)

thats fucked i only saw a shorter clip

Looking at yesterday and today, it would appear that Trump's alt-right, III%er, militia, neo-Nazi, Bundyite, white supremacist irregulars did not have a follow-up plan in place to assault any further state capitols or federal agencies, but only had this 'master' plan to break into the Capitol and take the Congress hostage before they could count the electoral votes. Which should allow the clock to run out on the Trump administration and buys some time for the new administration to put together a response and begin to act on it. But we should understand that the domestic armed opposition hasn't disappeared and they will try to organize further actions from here forward.

What a fucked-up mess, when the government needs to be focused on COVID, economic relief, tax reform, the climate crisis and half a dozen more pressing problems.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Friday, 8 January 2021 21:35 (five years ago)

xp Yeah, he's talking like one of the rioters; I don't understand why the WaPo seems to be treating him as an independent journalist.

I was confused as to why the police stepped aside from the door. Was it because they knew they were about to be met by reinforcements?

Lily Dale, Friday, 8 January 2021 21:36 (five years ago)

Was time to go to Olive Garden

WH statement on new impeachment proceedings: "As President Trump said yesterday, this is a time for healing and unity as one Nation. A politically motivated impeachment against a President with 12 days remaining in his term will only serve to further divide our great country."

who much further can we be divided?

BREAKING: GOP Sen. Murkowski calls on Trump to resign, becomes first Republican senator to do so

"I want him to resign. I want him out. He has caused enough damage,” Murkowski said in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News.

— Ana Cabrera (@AnaCabrera) January 8, 2021

"He doesn’t want to stay there. He only wants to stay there for the title. He only wants to stay there for his ego. He needs to get out. He needs to do the good thing, but I don’t think he’s capable of doing a good thing,” Murkowski added.

That WH statement is just so rote and outmoded, suddenly pretending it's back to politics as usual, 'nothing to see here people'.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Friday, 8 January 2021 21:54 (five years ago)

Dang, that's the most unequivocal thing Murkowski has ever said in her life; I didn't know she had it in her.

on a somewhat more positive note this isn't a groundbreaking radical idea or anything obviously but at least it isn't the austerity speech he could easily have pulled somehow out of widespread calls for a stimulus

A very significant statement from Joe Biden: "We should be investing in deficit spending in order to generate economic growth."

He notes that borrowing rates are low and says there's a need for an economic infusion now.

Mr. Biden has said he plans to make a priority of passing a law against domestic terrorism, and he has been urged to create a White House post overseeing the fight against ideologically inspired violent extremists and increasing funding to combat them.

nothing bad will come of this I'm sure
