I don’t think more brutality would have been good for the nation. I understand the double standard, but still.

Ah, cleanup.

At Facebook's all hands meeting happening right now, Mark Zuckerberg called yesterday's event's "an insurrection." He says he is appalled. He mentions that he is ashamed at how white rioters were treated versus Black protestors earlier this year. This thread will follow the call.

Say what you will about Biden, a POTUS who spells it out is already a step up. It’s not enough by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ll take this over the latest alternative.
― pomenitul, Thursday, January 7, 2021 2:20 PM (nine minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

yeah, while I do not like Biden at all, while this may be obvious to most of us here (and obviously most Black people as well), it is maybe less obvious to a lot of people who can still be convinced, and given the uptick in support for the protests last summer I do think there are people who still can

Oh, I don't expect that cop union dickhead to go anywhere, just letting people outside Chicago know that he's a notorious asshole.

A big mystery of the past 4 years is why so many of the GOP assholes ever put up with Trump. The removal of Trump would have meant (and maybe still will) mean ... the installation of Pence, a staunch conservative who would have pushed for much of the same bullshit. Sure, a chunk of the GOP clearly approved of and wanted the worst from Trump, but a bigger chunk would presumably have been fine with Pence for a couple of years. Profiles in lack of courage, yes, but the lunatic constituents that were all in for Trump are not going anywhere, so it's hard to believe they won't be even bigger pussies as the literal opposition party.

(and yeah, why didn't they realize that earlier, etc. but people jumping off the blue-lives-matter bandwagon seems like a net positive)

given how chuds treat people like Romney, Flake, and Kasich it's not really that much of a mystery. drawing Trump's ire is a good way to get primaried. any illusion that they were actually disgusted by him and were just on board to court his base went out the window when he defeated Cruz in the primaries.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 7 January 2021 19:43 (five years ago)

btw I don't want to imply these people actually like Trump, in fact I'm reasonably sure that most of these people hate his guts, but being a GOP politician means using untruths to advance broadly unpopular ideas and winning elections via gerrymandering and voter suppression. the entire party is rotten to the core. if courting insane conspiracy theories and tying your reputation to a criminal game show host helps you win re-election, you don't really question it. obviously most of these people would prefer if Pence were president but Biden would've wiped the floor with him in November, and most likely they would've lost the Senate before Georgia

yeah you hear it all the time, if cops sense any threat to their person, the policy is to withdraw and/or assist the criminals in their crimes.
