on my last visit Capitol police yelled at me two blocks away for walking the wrong way on a one-way street.

had this same experience, disobeyed a DONT WALK sign on an empty street and had a CP officer literally run up to me from a block away and scream in my face. friend of mine who was a longtime hill staffer got physically ejected when he was arriving for work early one morning and they noticed his staff ID was expired by one day. he asked if he could go to his office and get some papers first and they were like "if you take another step you will be tazed sir"

I was listening to the news last night (in case any news was happening) and I heard some fair defenses of the capitol police, fwiw. They were absolutely unprepared, but at the same time they are not a traditional police force. I heard them likened to more like campus police, just not trained or for that matter equipped to handle something of this magnitude. Unfortunately, the solution to that is a police force that *is*, and we've seen how that's worked out across this country.

Anyway, fuck these Trump supporters forever. They're not going anywhere, so hopefully something will be done about them, since they're certainly not done storming capitols. I mean, for fuck's sake, someone was shot and killed, three other people died of various shit in the midst of this. Two bombs were found. And of course it started more or less with the leader of a white nationalist extremist group being arrested en route with a van full of ammunition magazines *branded with the name of his extremist group.* If far worse transpired than what we know of, we'd have been shocked but we wouldn't have been surprised.

As an avid reader of the SPLC's 'Intelligence Report' throughout the 90s and into the early 2000s, I will honestly say that I don't expect much will be done about these right wing groups. JUst reading through the bits of the thread I missed lastnight by being asleep. Seeing the bit where some of the insurrctionists are crossing a room that is largely roped off by one of those tour roped off area ropes. I saw a clip of that same room from a different perspective on the BBC footage last night where one of the people crossing the room was shifting teh ropes outwards. Which struck me as something that people from other ethnic groups would probably have got hassle for in itself.

THough what also struck me at the time was what was the purpose of taht rope. Seems to be rather extremely accommodating of a crowd that they would be allowed into a room like thatjust as long as they stayed within the silk ropes.
