I mean it's that simple. You don't have to wish that the capitol police had beaten rioters with clubs in order to point out that they explicitly DIDN'T DO THEIR JOB. So maybe they shouldn't have that job anymore!

what the hell do they put in the water in delaware?

30% APR iirc

just from a uh airborne viral perspective it may not be wise to reconvene, in a building in which hundreds of unmasked hilbillies had just marauded, a congress full of olds

― k3vin k., Wednesday, January 6, 2021 4:32 PM (two minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

I'm just going to put this out there: a lot of these people probably live in small towns or the suburbs or exurbs with nice lawns and clean garages. The term "hillbilly" places the problem on a despised class status and 'other' rather than deal with the issue that these people are not 'hillbillies,' stockpiling guns on rural property in Montana.

Pere Legume (the table is the table), Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:39 (five years ago)

omg first lady's chief of staff is resigning!

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:39 (five years ago)

What if it is though? Because it either LITERALLY is or it kinda tacitly is?

yeah i guess i'm hedging a bit, because i do suspect that SOMETHING very very bad happened. it's just a question of whether it was spontaneous racism (similar to how we saw cops here in Chicago COOPERATING with the fucking proud boys this summer, even fucking coordinating and co-patrolling with them in some cases) or planned insurrection. but i'm hedging because i'm speculating

Karl Malone, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:39 (five years ago)

it's not like the whole thing was a conspiracy among the capitol police and whoever else, but

What if it is though? Because it either LITERALLY is or it kinda tacitly is?

a little bit of both imo

lol the people walking up on the right are a high school tour group and their dad in a dad hat.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:40 (five years ago)

they should all resign, one after the other, until it is just Trump in the White House and then he can die.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:40 (five years ago)

I'm delighted it took bullets to get Rand Paul to flip.

the timing on these peoples crisis of conscience just is uncanny

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:42 (five years ago)

Yeah that other video of cops moving the barriers isn't clear on what exactly is occurring and where or when. Doesn't appear correct to say "they didn't break in, the police let them"

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:43 (five years ago)

Surely Melania's chief of staff could have stopped all of this.

epistantophus, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:43 (five years ago)

is trump, like, watching tv

Karl Malone, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:43 (five years ago)

with nice lawns and clean garages

No garage that has a Trump-as-Rambo flag hanging in it is clean.

Yes, Trump is reportedly watching TV.

what if anything is going on in Georgia or Kansas?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:44 (five years ago)

Trump is watching tv... in a bunker.

Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.) said in an interview that Congress would need to investigate thoroughly how the nation’s Capitol proved so vulnerable to a seemingly disorganized and lightly armed mob, especially given Trump’s incitement and abundant signs the event would be volatile if not violent.
“I was surprised to learn this morning that the National Guard was not preemptively deployed given the threats that had been made and the president’s incitement,” Malinowski said. “I’m in no position to judge the response from my limited vantage point, but we’re going to have to do a very serious after-action look at what went wrong and how to make sure that this never happens again.”

Karl Malone, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:46 (five years ago)

― Ima Gardener (in orbit), Wednesday, January 6, 2021 7:38 PM (twenty-one seconds ago)

i mean, not really tho? the cops were clearly vastly outnumbered by the protestors. the only way to have prevented them from getting into the building if that's what the protestors wanted to do would have been to a. use violence b. have increased the number of cops protecting the building well into the hundreds (creepy and gross) c. erected a full impenetrable barrier around the capitol so that you can't get w/in hundreds of yards of it, which is what the white house is like right now (creepy and gross)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:47 (five years ago)

I'm glad they're resuming the vote at 8:00 tonight. Not to sound hokey, but at the very least it signals that if the purpose today was to delay everything for who knows how long, they failed. The only thing I wish is that everything had stopped 5-10 minutes earlier; I would love if Cruz had to go back up there and continue mid-grovel.

clemenza, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:47 (five years ago)

zomg, Mattis and Kelly pretty mad! Wow ... what a bunch of enabling assholes.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:47 (five years ago)

sure, you can say the cops were overwhelmed or caught by surprise, but the thing I think when I see that video of the terrorists pushing through that gate is why were there so few cops there in the first place. That isn't a coincidence or a mistake.

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:48 (five years ago)

Nancy Cordes on CBS pronouncing MAGA "mah-GAH" has been the highlight of the day for me, or maybe I'm just emotionally spent.

so white nationalists forcefully getting into the US Capitol are what?

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:51 (five years ago)

Are the capitol police generally effective by their own standards? I kind of thought it was a job like TSA inspector, ie a negligible amount of work with gun and a federal pension. Basically mall cops but with better benefits. Nothing like eg NYPD. Is that wrong?

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 7 January 2021 00:51 (five years ago)

xo to Jordan Yeah that's fine, I agree w you, except for the CP who are on camera having selfies taken w rioters and etc. I was mostly trying to connect w Karl where he was coming from.

Seeing that video of high schoolers pushing down the barricades, I can imagine being an adult guard and looking into the faces of children, basically, and pulling back that punch...until the children knock down the smallest guard (a woman?) and her colleagues have to come help her up...and then the whole group is through.

The adults in the frame let the kids be out front as long as it was convenient.

xps these assholes are terrorists. Who the fuck planted the explosive devices? Used force to storm a government building with an entire branch of our government inside? Peaceful protestors are not terrorists. WTF.
