weird, you can still see the video if you get there from a quote-tweet

President @realDonaldTrump calls for Capitol protestors to go home in peace. ⬇️ https://t.co/SnEKmGeOj7

Right? Impunity from damaging property? Does that mean if my neighbor looks at me sideways, it's cool for me to kick all his windows in and piss on his bed?

Property is theft that bed belongs to the people.

from the looks of it on cnn, seems like the curfew is more of a suggestion

While I don't totally agree with the tweet in question, I also think Katherine and others are right to say: it is law and order rhetoric that brought us here. Maybe let's not cheer for one team of fascist thugs to stop another team of fascist thugs.

Pere Legume (the table is the table), Wednesday, 6 January 2021 23:43 (five years ago)

there are more tweets that follow that i think are incoherent, but it's probably just me

i understand the impulse to ask "where are the police??" and the hypocrisy in their absence here. but the impunity with which the alt right are allowed to protest and to commit property damage is something we should all have.

this one starts off the argument, and is least objectionable i guess. my main problem with it is that he's making a comparison between dumbass altrighters trying to "storm the capitol" with

demanding equal retribution will only be used to raise budgets for, and more heavily arm, law enforcement- and to demonize protestors writ large. this police know this! lawmakers know this.

this is where it goes off into cuckoo land. "demanding equal retribution" - who? when? a couple hours ago? and if capitol police were to somehow keep rioters out of the capitol, that would lead to budget raises for law enforcement, and to demonize all protesters? police know this? lawmakers know this?

the police will never take our side. they are an instrument of right wing power. they will never tear gas the proud boys, because they are the proud boys- but they also shouldn't, because tear gas is reprehensible no matter who it is used on.[

you got that right bub

this must be allowed to change nothing in our demands to defund the police.

huh

Law enforcement officials are creating A LOT of work for themselves by not processing these people now. They’ll never be able to hunt many of them down.

yeah one thing about living in a police state is its logic worms its way into your brain and beliefs

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 January 2021 23:45 (five years ago)

lol

Half of right wing twitter right now is saying this is a false flag by antifa and the other half is posting pictures from the capitol saying this is me! i'm doing this!

Just emailed my senators and rep to remove trump asap. Can't hurt to try.

Respectfully Yours, (Aimless), Wednesday, 6 January 2021 23:47 (five years ago)

yeah that tweet's incoherent, let's not focus on it too much. there are some fair discussion points buried in this for sure, I'm immediately reminded of how the brutal pepper spray attacks on treesitters in the late 90's sprang directly from failed court cases around similar treatment of antichoice protesters earlier in the 80s.

At this point I'm starting to think Trump *resigning* is the only act that will defuse this bullshit.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 6 January 2021 23:47 (five years ago)

sad lol

howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Wednesday, 6 January 2021 23:48 (five years ago)

I hope he resigns and then his supporters string him up for crossing Trump.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 6 January 2021 23:48 (five years ago)

i mean, i get that, but what do we want here? for police to be cool with altright weirdos to take over the building?

that's not the police state worming its way into my head. when i worked in DC i sure as fuck would not want random weirdos in the building. have you seen parks and rec? "the public" are fucking crazy

naw just talking generally how peoples first thought often when they see something they dont like is lock that mfr up, idrc even if people want the police to shoot the fascists or whatever not really a deal in the big scheme of things, but it is pretty interesting if one is in the mood to contemplate the culture of the whole thing, and fwiw i def think the police should have kept those people out of the capitol, but the reason they didnt is because theyre the police, which leads us back

Karl otm. We can hate the police for shooting an unarmed man in the back 7 times AND for not arresting a terrorist posing with a confederate battle flag under lincolns portrait in the halls of cogresss.

xposts ah, gotcha lagoon. i agree, wanting the police to be as abusive toward the altrighters as they are toward BLM marchers is creepy and bad

but that's not what the everest person was saying. they went with "the impunity with which the alt right are allowed to protest and to commit property damage is something we should all have" which to me sounds like "this bullshit going on at the capitol is fine and in a better world it could happen everywhere without impunity"

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 6 January 2021 23:57 (five years ago)

I keep getting stuck on the thought that if the protesters back in June had been able to take over the White House, I totally would have supported that.

Like I’m pretty sure that even actual anarchists don’t think that constant storming and vandalism is an ideal state.

@everest is fucking awesome and they make very good art and they're super smart! and lots of people i know follow them and "like" their tweets and stuff. that's why i weirdly decided to pick out their take (that i thought was hot and not good), because it was weird to read and then see lots of retweeting and liking. in response, the Discourse compelled me to believe that i needed to speak truth to a minor twitter power, publicly, but on another social media platform

i get not loving police and cheering on the police to brutally attack protesters but what's the alternative when it comes to an attempt at an insurrection? this is hardly Bloomberg's windows, in that the property isn't what people are agitated about here. Live were put at risk, and in turn, democracy, as they interrupted a literal vote counting for the Presidency.

nobody gaf about the damn windows.

I guess my feeling is that I want police to leave peaceful protestors alone to peacefully protest regardless of which end of the political spectrum they're on but I'm pretty okay with Capitol police shooting terrorists when they forcefully enter the Capitol regardless of what their political leanings might be.
