the analogy, Dan S, that I use for how vote counting works, is that the problem is, we treat election results like sporting events.

But election result reporting is sort of like if football games weren't shown live, but taped. And when they were shown, the game was shown entirely out of order. Like imagine if the Eagles beat the Giants 35-28, but when the TV replayed the game, they showed the Giants 4 touchdowns first, then the Eagles 5 touchdowns?

early on in the game, you might be concerned and think the Giants were blowing out the Eagles, but in reality, they weren't.

That's the thing with result reporting - it's a Schroedinger's cat thing. There's already a winner once voting stops. We just don't know who until we count. And it matters where the remaining votes are located.
