Socrates was killed because he was an edgelord addicted to irony and he completely wore out his welcome in Athens. To the point they offed him and never looked back or regretted it until the people who actually knew him had passed away and all anyone knew any more was what Plato wrote about him. I gravely doubt bean dad's irony was anywhere near as intellectually excusable as that of Socrates.

i read the bean dad thread this morning and am full of regret, i knew exactly where it was going and read it anyway and was angry at bean dad and myself.

I remember a colleague (guy from Arizona) making a joke of this sort in a bar, one with the n-word in he punchline, as he got to the end he realised that another colleague, a black woman from the Caribbean, was stnding behind him listening. He certainly learned a lesson that day, hope it was the right one.

A friend of a friend is journalist and was writing a piece about climate and young people for vice and was in a school talking to 17/18 year olds and they either hadn't heard of it or thought it was laughable ok boomer shit
