LJ: Thanks for the input but i have reasons for the system of differentiation I have set up there... I'd like to give people the chance to vote for 2 "#1" picks when they are drastically different. As a for instance, I'm hard pressed to choose between Bluey and I May Destroy You and how do you play that Sophie's Choice?

Don't forget Ozark (Netflix).

clemenza, Friday, 1 January 2021 00:12 (three years ago) link

Thought I added! Just did.

late in the year released 4th season of big mouth should prob be added too

Totally forgot the second season of Homecoming (Prime). Didn't like it as much as the first, but my ballot will be brief enough that I'll have it on there.

clemenza, Friday, 1 January 2021 01:30 (three years ago) link

that's 160 nominations and i still feel like we're missing several heavy hitters

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Friday, 1 January 2021 02:10 (three years ago) link

Beastars (Netflix)

wasdnuos (abanana), Friday, 1 January 2021 03:05 (three years ago) link

Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal (cartoon network)

Clay, Friday, 1 January 2021 03:29 (three years ago) link

also joe pera's second season aired in late 2019 (and was top 10 in the 2019 poll) so might want to cut that one off the noms list?

Clay, Friday, 1 January 2021 03:37 (three years ago) link

Magic for Humans (Netflix)

(Only just learned tonight that a new season was released half a year ago, yr real bad at this Netflix)

Telly Salivas (Old Lunch), Friday, 1 January 2021 03:42 (three years ago) link

half of pera was in 2020 but it DID place in the 2019 poll so i am open to pulling it for that reason.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Friday, 1 January 2021 04:31 (three years ago) link

I just finished watching Undone on Amazon and was about to nominate it, but I see that it was actually 2019 and simply didn't place last year. What a shame, it's an excellent show

Vinnie, Friday, 1 January 2021 05:31 (three years ago) link

According to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Pera_Talks_with_You#Season_2_(2019%E2%80%9320)

Nine out of 13 "Joe Pera" Season 2 episodes were in 2020, plus the "Relaxing Old Footage with Joe Pera" special also came out in 2020. I am totally voting for Joe Pera if it's on this year's poll (maybe #1 spot for me!).

ernestp, Friday, 1 January 2021 18:53 (three years ago) link

i'm right there with you but every episode except Relaxing Old Footage (which is effectively a single episode special and not open to nomination) was out by the time we voted last year and it charted at #7 last year so we gotta let it go for this one

Canada's Drag Race (Crave / BBC)

Mrs America (Hulu)
Unorthodox (Netflix)

Also does Small Axe (BBC/Amazon Prime) qualify?

danzig, Saturday, 2 January 2021 11:40 (three years ago) link

should do imo, even though at least Mangrove and Lovers Rock debuted at film festivals

shivers me timber (sic), Saturday, 2 January 2021 12:10 (three years ago) link

yeah, we can do small axe, though i would appreciate it if anyone who votes for it has seen at least three “episodes” and isn’t just voting for lovers rock

moonbase 8 (showtime)

johnny crunch, Monday, 4 January 2021 00:57 (three years ago) link

shabbat bloody shabbat (voodoo chili), Monday, 4 January 2021 01:57 (three years ago) link

lol, I thought it had been a while and saw its dedicated thread had been bumped but only just now realized I was reading forks's nomination post from January 2020.

TL;DR: NEVER MIND!

Cool news (look for Rectify on my ballot at number one with a bullet).

Telly Salivas (Old Lunch), Monday, 4 January 2021 04:04 (three years ago) link

might vote for Succession S1 as well as S2 then

shivers me timber (sic), Monday, 4 January 2021 04:05 (three years ago) link

The Midnight Gospel (Netflix)
Solar Opposites (Hulu)
AEW Dynamite (TBS)
The Dark Side Of The Ring (Viceland)
Red Letter Media (Youtube)
Bojack Horseman (Netflix)

For All Mankind (AppleTV)
Aggretsuko (Netflix)
Followers (Netflix)

American Fear of Scampos (Ed), Monday, 4 January 2021 06:53 (three years ago) link

BTW, Bojack did place #14 in the 2019 poll but the final eight episodes were not part of that vote, as they came out on January 31... so any votes should be for that final half of the last season as a stand-alone show.

We're wrapping this up on Thursday so get any late nominations in now!

Aggretsuko (Netflix)

Did not realize episodes of this came out last year! I binged all three seasons just a month ago, thought it was older. Thanks for nomming

Vinnie, Monday, 4 January 2021 15:53 (three years ago) link

I appreciate the thinking ahead but I would ask that we only nominate shows that we might possibly vote for by the time voting comes around... so I'm okay if you're nominating something in advance of a planned watch prior to Feb 1 but otherwise, no need for completism.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Monday, 4 January 2021 16:26 (three years ago) link

i do plan on watching at least one of those before the end of the month, but there might be some latecomers who vote but don't nominate

shabbat bloody shabbat (voodoo chili), Monday, 4 January 2021 16:44 (three years ago) link

also fair! since there's been no limit put on nominations, i just want to avoid folks feeling the need to nominate everything

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Monday, 4 January 2021 18:02 (three years ago) link

oh yes i forgot about Aggretsuko. great season.

billstevejim, Monday, 4 January 2021 18:36 (three years ago) link

legitimately floored to learn that homeland was airing new episodes in 2020-

shabbat bloody shabbat (voodoo chili), Monday, 4 January 2021 19:29 (three years ago) link

I saw Hillary--I thought of it more as a documentary than a TV series, but I guess it could go either way. I would put it lower on my list.

clemenza, Monday, 4 January 2021 19:29 (three years ago) link

Didn't know anyone rated The Good Fight until I saw it pop up on several year-end lists (nb, have never watched it or its previous incarnation).

Telly Salivas (Old Lunch), Monday, 4 January 2021 19:37 (three years ago) link

it’s pretty good imo, i think i like it better than Good Wife

Taskmaster (Channel 4)

danzig, Monday, 4 January 2021 20:41 (three years ago) link

my mom and my gf both watched Lennox Hill (independently of each other) and loved it; it looked pretty good but I had already gotten into Hospital on BBC which more or less seemed like the same thing except people have nice british accents and everyone's insured.
