the right way for alex to leave is with a one day champion imo

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 December 2020 22:55 (five years ago)

So, uh, took longer than most but apparently old Ken Jennings tweets were dug up? Haven’t seen the tweets in question, but I read his... apology that seems to not be great.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 31 December 2020 03:55 (five years ago)

those tweets get dug up every time he's on TV

frogbs, Thursday, 31 December 2020 03:58 (five years ago)

I honestly hadn’t heard about them before, this time they seem be getting a ton of traction and looks like it’ll cost him the full time hosting gig.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 31 December 2020 03:59 (five years ago)

actually it looks like this is the one trending?

Ken Jennings is getting dragged for this? Really? Lol he’s 100% correct though. pic.twitter.com/oT9zrQpBPQ

frogbs, Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:03 (five years ago)

If that’s truly it, I’m baffled by some of the tweets I’m seeing calling him out for his shitty apology. Hint: it’s not just Republicans.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:06 (five years ago)

that's the one that's been trending lately, it looks like a lot of conservative sites are piling on him for that

obviously there are a few pretty distasteful tweets in his past but idk if they're much worse than say anything on a random episode of Curb

frogbs, Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:07 (five years ago)

the one that pops up here: https://ew.com/tv/ken-jennings-apologizes-insensitive-tweets-jokes/
is:

Nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:11 (five years ago)

dumb joke, his reason for leaving them up makes sense, he should delete everything older than a month now just in case

shivers me timber (sic), Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:25 (five years ago)

they’ll still get found. that was a tasteless tweet but I doubt his job is in jeopardy

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 December 2020 13:44 (five years ago)

you see that sentence works even if he ends up not keeping the gig

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 December 2020 13:46 (five years ago)

pretty highly doubt ABC or whoever runs jeopardy feels like lighting money on fire over that joke tho, insensitive as it was

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 December 2020 13:47 (five years ago)

if nothing else i cant imagine that the core jeopardy audience is online enough to care about bad tweets

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 31 December 2020 14:04 (five years ago)

fuck, i dunno about watching this final week.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 7 January 2021 17:52 (five years ago)

So glad that Brayden lost the other night. He was acting like a dick, too. Alex was reading off the Double Jeopardy categories, and one category was the setup to the next category's punchline. Brayden read the punchline before Alex did, and Alex said, "But it's not your turn to choose on Double Jeopardy, Brayden, it's Molly's turn." He sounded like he was explaining to a toddler why he couldn't have infinite cookies. It was pretty great.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 7 January 2021 17:58 (five years ago)

lol i kinda liked brayden but yeah he was getting really mouthy. i swear i heard him start to say an answer when someone else buzzed in

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 7 January 2021 18:03 (five years ago)

haha I heard that too!

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 7 January 2021 18:26 (five years ago)

Austin Rogers streak is on netflix right now. so good

flopson, Thursday, 7 January 2021 19:47 (five years ago)

i would normally be pissed about you "spoiling" a loss but i was deeply worried that brayden would be the final champion with alex and tied to him forever so that's such a fucking blessing i don't care.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Friday, 8 January 2021 01:02 (five years ago)

Iirc the woman who beat Austin swept the very 1st category. Right after she did I figured this must be the game he loses. He also blew at least one true daily double. There was a dolly Parton category and she was from TN. RIGGED! She was really good tho!

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 8 January 2021 01:07 (five years ago)

i am previously on the record in this thread as rooting for brayden to keep winning so alex could go out with a legit champion, but i just watched this...

Alex was reading off the Double Jeopardy categories, and one category was the setup to the next category's punchline. Brayden read the punchline before Alex did

...and jfc the dude should've been impeached on the spot and carried out in handcuffs.

If anyone knows it's online somewhere, link it up - I'm in an antenna-less house today.

shivers me timber (sic), Friday, 8 January 2021 22:16 (five years ago)

the day-of episode is usually on youtube (near the top of a search for jeopardy) for a few hours before it gets taken down

Clay, Saturday, 9 January 2021 01:23 (five years ago)

That was a nice way to go, just a solid matter-of-fact episode all around.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 9 January 2021 03:42 (five years ago)

Forgive the thread spam, but I wanted to note that Jeopardy's 2020 season is nominated in the 2020 ILX TV poll:

i would answer every question with "What is quack doctor selling snake oil" in protest

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Monday, 15 February 2021 17:46 (five years ago)

holy shit @ brayden, how sad

the list of guest hosts is definitely... not what i would have expected. consolation is that i cant imagine most/any of them are being considered for the permanent gig? I hope?

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Monday, 15 February 2021 17:52 (five years ago)

Aaron Rodgers will probably cause a temporary spike in viewership

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Monday, 15 February 2021 17:53 (five years ago)

Anderson Cooper is a curious choice, considering he legendarily bombed on the show (and even sassed Alex!) a few years back: https://news.avclub.com/last-night-s-jeopardy-was-a-shitshow-1798247379

Ken has been quite good imo.

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 February 2021 18:01 (five years ago)

he has the pace of the show down, which is the main thing. i have a feeling Aaron Rodgers' episode is going to have to be heavily edited to have any flow.

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Monday, 15 February 2021 18:04 (five years ago)

and they'll have to edit out the moments where Dr Oz sells essential oils

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Monday, 15 February 2021 18:04 (five years ago)

Rodgers can run a hurry-up offense better than anyone on the planet, I'm sure he can handle this

Yeah, Ken knows the pace of the show, but you can also tell that he LOVES the game itself; he often seems more excited than some of the contestants. And one thing Alex used to do, that Ken never does, is say something along the lines of, "[contestant far behind] has a lot of catching up to do!" Alex was never mean, but I'd think, jeez, that contestant knows they're behind, maybe don't emphasize that.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 15 February 2021 19:07 (five years ago)

"really clogged up the shitter that round, didn't ya?"

he said that you son of a bitch (Neanderthal), Monday, 15 February 2021 19:08 (five years ago)

alex was a dick to contestants about once to twice per show sometimes in ways that felt vaguely sexist or at least dismissive.
ken is, as noted, genuinely excited to be there and it shows.

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 February 2021 19:19 (five years ago)

vaguely sexist

I recall him addressing women contestants as "little lady" a number of times.

ha, that's one of the things i haven't liked about him as host. alex seemed to me like an unknowable voice of authority who existed on an entirely different plane of existence than the contestants. maybe that can't ever be replaced, but ken seems more like a guy who wants to stand on the field of play and be everyone's coach. he seems more like a typical game-show host in that sense. i liked that alex was not that.

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 16 February 2021 02:23 (five years ago)

Ken has done four days of work in the job tbf, it's entirely likely he'd get more towards his politely smart-assed stage and podcast character if he had the job full-time and was able to relax

shivers me timber (sic), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 03:15 (five years ago)

they call him "Jaded" Jennings

fair point

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 16 February 2021 03:33 (five years ago)

I am wishing for a host with a deeper voice than Ken’s but he isn’t really failing in other ways. I mean he wrapped up some of his questions to the contestants sort of awkwardly but that is to be expected early on.

THE DON IS GONE (FlopsyDuck), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 04:38 (five years ago)

the one thing he was doing that annoyed me was too long pauses before giving them a "correct"

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 20:08 (five years ago)

More former Jeopardy champs as hosts, please. Ken has other hosting gigs.

I want it to be this guy:
