I didn't hate this. I don't understand why people do. It was nice to see the high ceiling of a jedi's powers and the disparity with mando's own when fighting the robot trooper. It gave purpose to the whole endeavor. Up to then, mando seemed to be just as good as a jedi. Someone even hired him to kill one.

Yes, and it reinforces that these are secondary Star Wars tales and the 'Episodes' really are the main story.

It really did feel like the first time I truly appreciated what it means to be a Jedi, in terms of combat skill.

Yeah, but it never registered the way it does here. Maybe because they’re filled with Jedi slicing & dicing thru droids like butter (from the very first scene of Ep. I). The contrast here had real frisson, as Sufjan said.

Great observance! I love that. Read someone else point out that the force crush thing is totally a dark technique and it emphasizes how Luke never really went full Jedi.

Upon reflection, how did they not end with:

Din: Hey, kid.

Grogu stops and turns back. Din reaches into a pouch and pulls out the metal ball knob from his former ship.

Din: Catch.

Din tosses the knob at Grogu. Grogu uses the force to bring the knob to his hand. Din smiles while fighting back tears. Grogu gives an approving nod before turning around to leave.

Another nice touch was showing the Bespar spear getting red hot at the touch of the Darksaber - that really added to the tension of the fight.

xp no, Din keeps the ball to remind him of the child - like parents keep their kid’s favorite stuffie to remind them of when they used to read stories together.

I do think the subject of food in Star Wars is interesting. A pal once remarked that it tends to elicit slight disgust or revulsion in the characters onscreen (even when they’re eating it).

On a basic level, I tend to wonder “when do they break to eat?” during these breakneck adventures.

The guns aren’t actually lasers anyway, they shoot blobs of stuff which certainly don’t travel at the speed of light. Seems like they need whatever stuff Chewie carried around in his bandolier.

Yep. I've been watching Clone Wars (because of Mando) and I liked that Luke's skills matched up with what we saw there too - Jedis just single-handedly taking down entire droid armies.  

Jedis should be less violent and just destroy their opponents psychologically

That was sorta the lesson of both Return of the Jedi AND The Last Jedi but people keep forgetting

I thought Anakin’s weakness came from fear/hate/jealously whatever? The Jedi do lots of violence in the prequels, they just have chill mindstates.

Anakin's weakness was a dream that Padme died in childbirth so he solved it by assuring she died in childbirth

Anakin’s root weakness was from attachments (to his mother, to his lady friend) which then led to all his other feelings of insufficiency, which led to hate, anger, etc

RotS really just an allegory for "self-fulfilling prophecy"

I can't remember Ahsoka's exact reasoning for not training Grogu but then hooking him up with Jedi Tinder. It was too dangerous, but maybe some crazy jedi will do it anyway? And then it won't be dangerous? Or it will still be dangerous but not her fault?

Or she knew Luke had mastered his own shit and would have to train Grogu but also didn't want to give Mando Luke's cell directly bc maybe Grogu ain't Luke's type?

Yeah, I think she said something like she couldn't handle training him but maybe a Jedi master could.

maybe Luke talked to Ahsoka on the "surviving Jedi Zoom" and she mentioned he came by and Luke said "great, how's the training going", and she said "oh I'm not training him, it's too big a risk" and Luke said "the fuck? you just let him go?" and Ahsoka asked him to stop questioning her decision making and he said that it's every Jedi's job to question decision-making and Ahsoka asked 'well what the fuck does that mean' and Luke said "that when a Jedi does something patently stupid, other Jedi should call them on it" and Ahsoka said Luke was being toxic and Luke said 'just tell me who had Grogu, i'll find him' and farted and left

in reality tho he summoned those Jedi on that mountain and I guess that made them know where he was after he got kidnapped or something, like a Jedi GPS

Ahsoka was saying his attachment to Mando presented the same liability I mentioned just now - which is also demonstrated by the moment in season 1 when he chokes Cara for arm wrestling Mando - but she gives him a tip just to fulfill her part of the deal and make the kid somebody else’s problem.

Ethics are tough!

see that is my point. It seems like Jedi move should have been something like kill mando and sign Grogu up for macaron classes.
