Why would anyone come onto a thread to express negative thoughts about Disney properties

Kind of interesting article (with a minor spoiler about future plans, if you haven't finished The Mandalorian yet): https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/disney-star-wars-marvel-studios-1234866986/

one month passes...

I'm just going to post this now because I can see that I'm going to get a lot of requests -

Yes, Rian's SW trilogy is still on. No dates or timelines because he has other projects going on, but it is happening.

THAT IS ALL I KNOW ABOUT IT. 😁😁😁

cast certainly is... incredible...

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Monday, 29 March 2021 17:47 (five years ago)

Edgerton returning as Uncle Owen. Nice. (and uh, Bonnie Piesse as Beru)

Nhex, Monday, 29 March 2021 17:52 (five years ago)

So is Christensen gonna be running around sans mask and Scarred Eggplant Man makeup through most of this or will he be wearing full Vader gear? Which, if it’s Full Vader, means *anyone* could’ve played The Dark Lord. The mind boggles. Also, looking forward to more blue milk gags.

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Monday, 29 March 2021 18:28 (five years ago)

Yeah - cool to see the "ROTS" Owen x Beru team back

beer drops on my keytar (morrisp), Monday, 29 March 2021 18:50 (five years ago)

xpost I assume it'll be like the scene in Empire where we briefly saw the back of Vader's helmet-free noggin only this time we'll briefly get to see the front, as well.

Benny Safdie?!?

the second lead of Good Time, who's also in the new PTA?

armoured van, Holden (sic), Monday, 29 March 2021 21:45 (five years ago)

I suspect Kenobi will be seeing a lot of Anakin's screwed up face in his dreams or some fucked up Force projection (as per Luke in TLJ). Hard to see how any direct confrontation with the real DV could be good in this.

nashwan, Monday, 29 March 2021 21:49 (five years ago)

Yeah - as someone in that Twitter thread commented, it feels like it would be weird for Obi-Wan to encounter Vader before ANH. Has that happened in the comics or anything?

beer drops on my keytar (morrisp), Monday, 29 March 2021 21:51 (five years ago)

Recently got through most of The Clone Wars over the last few months and ended up really enjoying those smart, tense final four episodes from the last season and how it links with events in ROTS.

nashwan, Monday, 29 March 2021 21:58 (five years ago)

psyched to see Benny Safdie play Anakin's long lost mentally disabled brother

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Monday, 29 March 2021 22:58 (five years ago)

Can we also get him to direct an episode pls

Vinnie, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 00:05 (five years ago)

sic yeah but in a Star Wars TV show? seems a little off-brand

assert (MatthewK), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 00:08 (five years ago)

Edgerton returning as Uncle Owen. Nice. (and uh, Bonnie Piesse as Beru)

After her turn in The Vow as the one of that whole bunch who figured out it was crap near the start and got out, hey, bring her back!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 00:09 (five years ago)

xp if they could make Werner Herzog work...

Nhex, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 00:31 (five years ago)

I just wound up watching the various Star Wars animations over the last month or so. ON Clone Wars season 5, finished Rebels and Resistance.
I noticed there seemed to be a problem with the timeline between teh end of Rebels and Mandalorian assumed Rebels should be canon to Mandalorian. BUt something a little off. Won't say more cos may be too much spoiler.

Found Resistance quite amusing and liked the animation. So wouldn't mind more of it or more done by the team working on it.

Haven't finished Clone Wars and only realised that Season 7 was made several years after the bulk of it recently. have only watched the first 2 episodes of that so far. Assumed since there was a gap it wouldn't be too much of a spoiler to the last few seasons of the earlier stuff.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:12 (five years ago)

S6 and S7 of Clone Wars are definitely worthwhile - especially the last one - mostly dedicated to trying the series into the timeline of Revenge of the Sith. There are some plot threads from S6 that pay off in S7, so I don't know if would just skip it. Those last two seasons are short, anyway.

Nhex, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 15:37 (five years ago)

Well went back to S5 anyway

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 16:17 (five years ago)

Anyway, the batch, it is bad.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 16:17 (five years ago)

looks like shit

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:04 (five years ago)

They pop up earlier in Clone Wars, is that the 1st 2 episodes of S7?
Obviously long hair is supposed to be a Rambo.
Did hope it had some merit, could have been something semi worthwhile but also could just be a toy tie in.
There have been gropups like this that have been interesting in terms of tensions etc but probably just going to be gung ho and very puerile.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:19 (five years ago)

Those are the same characters from the beginning of S7. Thought that arc was OK so I'm down for this. Plus, more Fennec!

Nhex, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 18:02 (five years ago)

There is something about the style of animation of these Star Wars series that makes them unwatchable to me. I'm not sure what it is, too much in the video-game cutscene circa mid 00s style maybe. It's just ugly to me.

silverfish, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:37 (five years ago)

The visual style of the Star Wars cartoons always reminds me of that movie Antz.

Dan I., Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:59 (five years ago)

I found the animation style on The Clone Wars to be a nigh-insurmountable barrier to entry for years. I'm glad I finally pushed through my aesthetic objections because it's the best filmed SW thing since The Empire Strikes Back imo. And the animation improves considerably as the show progresses.

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 20:15 (five years ago)

I see there's another character from the Clone Wars Bad Batch story arc that is now part of the team.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 20:29 (five years ago)

Same for me, OL. In fact, watching this trailer now, I'm thinking it looks great visually, whereas five years ago I probably wouldn't have thought much of it! I'll watch this

Vinnie, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 23:37 (five years ago)

one month passes...

First episode of The Bad Batch was actually pretty good

groovypanda, Friday, 7 May 2021 11:02 (five years ago)

i guess technically they couldn't call it Clone Wars Season 8, given that the wars end in the first episode, but that's what it is

Nhex, Friday, 7 May 2021 12:38 (five years ago)

Yeah both of the first two episodes were sharp, I thought. My hope is that we move from specific callbacks/return appearances more.

My first reaction was "that's hilarious" but then I started to feel it was actually pretty mean

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 18:57 (five years ago)

It's creative and well executed, but a lot of work for a "haha Star Wars nerds don't have girlfriends" joke that was stale 15 years ago.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 19:05 (five years ago)

he deserved memification, but why add public mockery to poor brittany's suffering?

sharpening the contraindications (Aimless), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 19:20 (five years ago)

i know i posted it in the star wars thread but this guy's delivery was what deserved memeification, the sci-fi context is almost purely incidental to the cringe

Draymond is "Mr Dumpy" (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 19:22 (five years ago)

Okay I'll admit that I didn't even consider that the first one was earnest until now. I assumed the entire thing was a joke.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 19:30 (five years ago)

Guess I’m officially too old, I cannot parse the layers of meta-textuality or whatever is going on.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) stan (morrisp), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 21:24 (five years ago)

Okay I'll admit that I didn't even consider that the first one was earnest until now.

If the original video was a goof I retract my claim that it was mean but I assumed they were all making fun of an awkward guy in a "so not gonna happen" kind of way

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 13 May 2021 16:06 (five years ago)

Yeah love everything about the new show except the underlying premise… but that would also apply to his stretches in Clone Wars and Rebels too.

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Wednesday, 22 April 2026 20:18 (one month ago)

I think it was basically
CLONE WARS WRITERS: Too bad that the cool character in that first prequel died
GEORGE: Oh he's not dead he just fell down a thing with half a body. He crawled out of a garbage heap later.
CWW: Uh sure George, I guess we can use him now

mh, Wednesday, 22 April 2026 20:40 (one month ago)

Ok, the Maul show was very good and the finale was terrific.

The animated segment of the Disney+ Star Wars universe continues to be much much better than the live action (Andor excepted obvs)

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Wednesday, 6 May 2026 16:49 (one month ago)

two weeks pass...

Looks fun from the trailer, I trust Favreau to restore the balance from the show's third season in that respect

And guess what: that's exactly what The Mandalorian and Grogu is. That was a pure pulpy delight, a proper self-contained story that didn't lean too deep on lore and used just enough backstory to work from there. I was honestly delighted, it was nice to see a Star Wars movie just being entertaining.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 May 2026 04:02 (three weeks ago)

I must say I’m def more encouraged by yr review, Ned. Seeing it this weekend!

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 22 May 2026 05:00 (three weeks ago)

Yeah this was uncomplicated fun, a condensed version of the series on a bigger scale, minor quibbles aside, no real need for more than that. Embo and the Anzellans certainly did not disappoint.

nashwan, Friday, 22 May 2026 21:34 (three weeks ago)

I knew this would ruin them. I'm sick and tired of them gaslighting us into believing that's not Baby Yoda on the screen.
