That was...fine.
― Bidh boladh a' mhairbh de 'n láimh fhalaimh (dowd), Friday, 11 December 2020 16:06 (five years ago)
Yeah, solid enough episode.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 December 2020 22:43 (five years ago)
What, no Tangerine Dream soundtrack!?
― Dan I., Saturday, 12 December 2020 00:51 (five years ago)
there's still a sense of moral satisfaction when a show makes it absolutely clear that a guy is utterly terrible and should be shot only for him, inevitably, to get shot
what a ghoul
― mh, Saturday, 12 December 2020 01:21 (five years ago)
TPS reports, lol
― Kim, Saturday, 12 December 2020 02:10 (five years ago)
GOOD EP
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 12 December 2020 02:11 (five years ago)
I'm surprised people seem kind of meh, I though on the level of pure Star Wars action this was maybe the best of the season! Fantastically shot and the ghoulish guy out-menaced Giancarlo Esposito which is no easy task.
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 12 December 2020 02:12 (five years ago)
yeah, that coda was pure cheese in a good way
― mh, Saturday, 12 December 2020 03:48 (five years ago)
HE'LL NEVER LOVE YOU
― maf you one two (maffew12), Saturday, 12 December 2020 03:51 (five years ago)
the bit about how much he means to Mando </3
― mh, Saturday, 12 December 2020 03:53 (five years ago)
It was pretty sweet. Doesn't put the episode over the top considering there wasn't a single shot of Grogster
― maf you one two (maffew12), Saturday, 12 December 2020 03:58 (five years ago)
I get the Tangerine Dream soundtrack I assume is a reference to Sorcerer...I came here to see if anyone was namedropping Wages of Fear. I quite liked this episode.
― dan selzer, Saturday, 12 December 2020 04:14 (five years ago)
i've got a couple friends who i talk to about this show and I mentioned I thought the truck sequence was referencing an old french thriller they might enjoy and got some pretty hard eyerolls
― Clay, Saturday, 12 December 2020 04:24 (five years ago)
Was this the first appearance of tires in the Star Wars cinematic universe?
― maf you one two (maffew12), Saturday, 12 December 2020 04:25 (five years ago)
did they discover....America?
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 04:28 (five years ago)
Dug this, good combination of set pieces and melodrama for me. 👍
― pence's eye juice (Hunt3r), Saturday, 12 December 2020 04:35 (five years ago)
xp I was thinking of Wages of Fear too! Though of course the Tarantino refs overshadowed that pretty quickly
― Nhex, Saturday, 12 December 2020 05:13 (five years ago)
Just caught up on the first 7 episodes and I'm so impressed thus far. After the OG trilogy, Mando S2 is my next favorite SW thing. The first season had some bad episodes, and I see not everyone is hot on all the episodes this season, but all 7 have worked for me. Dawson is so perfect as Ahsoka - there's something about the writing and her acting that connects perfectly to the character in Clone Wars (haven't seen Rebels), even though so many years have passed. I thought the quiet moments between her, Mando, and the Child were wonderful
I wonder if there will be any lasting impact to Mando having to show his face
― Vinnie, Saturday, 12 December 2020 08:44 (five years ago)
lmao the Office Space reference was unexpected
― Roz, Saturday, 12 December 2020 11:14 (five years ago)
Id never seen ahsoka because not a cloner but i wish she dint have oompa loompa eyebrows
― pence's eye juice (Hunt3r), Saturday, 12 December 2020 13:04 (five years ago)
What do you get when your master's a Sith? Was the proph-e-cy merely a myth? When fate shuts a Windau, where can you turn next? Can guidance be found in the Jedi text?
I don't like the look of it
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 13:26 (five years ago)
Nice to hear a non-British accent on a high-ranking Imp. For a moment I thought it was Eric Roberts.
― nashwan, Saturday, 12 December 2020 13:27 (five years ago)
for once I'd love someone with a thick Southie accent to be an Imperial leader
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 13:31 (five years ago)
is this the first time we see a Star Wars "jail"?
lol at the ED-209-esque robot security guard
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 14:42 (five years ago)
since when does a blaster "click"
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 14:56 (five years ago)
xpost -- Nope: following the introduction pre-title sequence a prison planet is the very first part of Rogue One. (Also in The Clone Wars there's a few episodes revolving around a jail on Coruscant or featuring it.)
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 12 December 2020 16:14 (five years ago)
I keep forgetting
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 16:15 (five years ago)
We're not in love oh wait
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 12 December 2020 16:18 (five years ago)
There's the prison Finn and Rose meet Benicio Del Toro's guy in in The Last Jedi too.
― nashwan, Saturday, 12 December 2020 16:23 (five years ago)
Wow yea, duh!. Yea that was a silly question on my behalf!
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 18:06 (five years ago)
This episode was not the best. What kind of secure facial-recognition-based terminal allows unknown faces (with a security token from a long-since-discharged criminal!) to log on and get the flight plans of its leaders? Also, the amount of people they are casually slaughtering each episode (and in this one, they were basically rightfully pissed-off villagers!) is getting pretty disturbing. There are only so many times Mando can cock his head wistfully after killing a bunch of people before I stop buying the tortured hero bit.
Is next week the finale? I'm looking forward to a kick-ass Grogu jailbreak.
― DJI, Saturday, 12 December 2020 19:43 (five years ago)
they were aiming for a TLJ-esque "is the Republic really that much better than the Empire??" bit right as the pirates were being killed, which tied into Burr's 'redemption' arc. didn't fully land given what we knew about Burr's character prior to this, but....
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 20:11 (five years ago)
actually i was a little confused at that part - this was a planet the New Republic didn't know about, right? so how were they responsible for what was happening here?
― Nhex, Saturday, 12 December 2020 20:19 (five years ago)
I think Burr was pointing out regardless of the fact that it was an unknown Imperial mining colony, as far as the citizens were concerned, they were ruled by the Republican and their lives still sucked.
but I don't think it landed real well. seemed a bit tacked on.
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 December 2020 20:23 (five years ago)
a little bit, but i did like the general gist of that conversation and how far Mando was willing to go against his beliefs. and of course we knew by the end of the episode Burr was gonna go straight bad or good because of the show we're watching
― Nhex, Saturday, 12 December 2020 20:28 (five years ago)
lol otm
― mookieproof, Saturday, 12 December 2020 20:35 (five years ago)
Yeah those little nonsensical moments like the blaster or the face scan that just serve the plot can be dumb but I guess I've accepted them as part of the package. Amy Sedaris's line delivery probably bothers me more tbh
― Vinnie, Saturday, 12 December 2020 22:49 (five years ago)
She’s channeling Bea Arthur’s line delivery in the SW Holiday Special
― mh, Sunday, 13 December 2020 00:23 (five years ago)
I just see Jerri Blank
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Sunday, 13 December 2020 00:25 (five years ago)
There’s a lot of “no sound in space” stuff in this episode - the major ones that jumped out at me was the TIE fighters strafing right along the course of the truck hauling the volatile chemicals, and the pirates approaching from the rear when they’d clearly been attacking the other trucks from the flank or the front - but it’s sci-fi TV! I am so used to that. I just want the overall plot arc to make sense, a reasonable amount of tension, and for the characters to make interesting choices. On that front this episode delivered IMHO.
― sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Sunday, 13 December 2020 01:40 (five years ago)
Cool episode, enjoyed it!Yeah the face scan made no sense, but whatever.
― good karma, my aesthetic (morrisp), Sunday, 13 December 2020 06:40 (five years ago)
(Why didn’t Bill Burr ask to be dropped off on at a slightly more convenient planet, lol? His plan is to wander down to one of those villages? They’re gonna think he’s an Imperial dude who survived the explosion, he’ll be in deep $#%*! “No, see, it was me who blew it up... honest!)
― good karma, my aesthetic (morrisp), Sunday, 13 December 2020 07:18 (five years ago)
I enjoyed this ephonestly the only thing that bugged me is a thing that has always bugged me since I was a kid:Slave 1 looks stupid I have *always* hated that it lands horizontal & flies vertical, it looks like a fucking shoehorn crossed with a hairdryer & the flat plane makes no sense it’s dumb & i hate it THERE I SAID IT
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 13 December 2020 07:22 (five years ago)
it looks like an elephant's head
― huge rant (sic), Sunday, 13 December 2020 08:01 (five years ago)
It might make more sense if we saw it vertical in space but horizontal under atmospheres. Other than that I won't hear a word against DUMBO I.
― nashwan, Sunday, 13 December 2020 12:25 (five years ago)
Slave 1 always gives me a mad nostalgia rush as I used to own the toy.
Why didn’t Bill Burr ask to be dropped off on at a slightly more convenient planet, lol?
I know, I'd probably rather be in prison than on my own in the middle of an alien jungle!
