Don't everyone's?

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Yes!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Not necessarily!

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Yes!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Although I did make a salad sandwich for lunch. Bread + a bunch of store-bought mixed greens + a shitloud of Grey Poupon.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:42 (twenty years ago)

Haha I am just being contrary. Sorry, John.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:42 (twenty years ago)

Contrary, yet quietly OTM.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:44 (twenty years ago)

We shouldn't really dwell on 'a shitload of Grey Poupon'.

Hey, J.'s already documented his DJ-ing last night, but it's worth adding that Nick was a fantastic DJ, pushing the bpm up and up and filling up the 'dance floor'.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:52 (twenty years ago)

This is undoubtedly true.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Were people not dancing?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:53 (twenty years ago)

There just wasn't a 'dance floor' per se - but the space between the tables and the bar was full of dancers.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Hey John - normally I'd ask this in an e-mail instead of in public, but who was the gal (great dancer) who spilled her beer on your deck during Bust A Move?

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Audr@ E1s1n. If you know Pf3ff3r, it's her sister. Graduated from K with everyone else in that '97 crowd.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

And yes, she is usually lots of fun to dance with.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Oh right - she was at the karoke night we all did at the Green? Frog? a few years ago, I think. She was spunky last night.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:00 (twenty years ago)

i've gone to the warehouse sale, sarah. it's awesome. very crowded & crazy, but awesome deals.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:12 (twenty years ago)

Cook's Illustrated seems to agree with the idea of real cuisine including meat. They had a vegetarian stir-fry recipe by a writer who made himself out to be a renegade amongst the CI staff writers for attempting a main dish sans meat.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Blue Frog. That was the night we started out at Liars' Club, right? Fall of 2003? For a second, I couldn't place you there. As I recall, we all got to Blue Frog so late that only a couple people got to sing.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of vegetarian eating. John, are we ever going to go to the Green Zebra?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I like Cook's Illustrated. I always read it in the bathroom at a particular friend's house.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:22 (twenty years ago)

I mentioned to the foodies at work that I was planning on going to Green Zebra. They were dismissive of the idea of a vegetarian fine cuisine.

I need to stop putting 2 spaces after my periods.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

(xpost) Yes! I would really like to. I don't know when, though. I'm in Montreal this weekend.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Yep, J., that was the night - I don't remember any of us getting to sing, but I remember for the first time seeing karaoke magazines, free guides to Chicagoland karaoke.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:26 (twenty years ago)

I think that Kenan's point about vegetarians not eating as well as non-veg's is still up for debate, but he was not saying anything that plenty of people who are seriously into food have said before. I'm on the fence about it, personally.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of K, where is she?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

I've been scouring craigslist. I kind of want to buy an older motorcycle. I should probably not do this.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:28 (twenty years ago)

I will admit, once it gets hot and summery I can kinda envision eating vegetarian.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:29 (twenty years ago)

(except for weekend grill-outs)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:30 (twenty years ago)

The thing is, a strictly vegetarian cuisine definitely reduces your options -- you're working with a more limited palette -- but I can't see how within those parameters you can't still have an amazing culinary experience. The idea that the only way of tasting the sublime is by consuming animal flesh seems absurd to me.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:30 (twenty years ago)

I even bought my first veggieburgers last week.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:31 (twenty years ago)

you do know that green zebra serves meat, right?

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:33 (twenty years ago)

Oh it does?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:34 (twenty years ago)

OMG Dan you MUST go to visit your girl on a motorcycle.

I like eating vegetarian approximately 50% of the time. The other 50% I enjoy eating fish, chicken, beef, ham, pork bbq, blablabla.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:35 (twenty years ago)

I think 2 ideas I often entertain but should never carry out are buying a motorcycle or a gun.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:35 (twenty years ago)

The idea that the only way of tasting the sublime is by consuming animal flesh seems absurd to me.

True. There is also eggplant.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:35 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to buy a motorcycle with a gun mounted on the front of it.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:36 (twenty years ago)

You guys have no idea how much seafood and meat I'm going to eat in New Orleans this weekend. Seriously, no concept.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:36 (twenty years ago)

when i was there, they had some limited meat things on the menu. chicken & fish, i think.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:36 (twenty years ago)

There are currently two meat dishes on the menu:

Roasted Skate Wing, braised leeks, arbequina olive pesto & tomato mustard sauce 13

Greengold Acres Chicken Breast, new potatoes, crisp skin and wild honey 15

This looks way less expensive than I thought it was.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:37 (twenty years ago)

chicken & fish, i think.

Right, I don't think they serve red meat. I remember reading that.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Enh, if I did get one it would be a buzz-around-town bike and not something to take a long ride on. But who knows? She'd definitely like it.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Maddie was talking about buying a gun the other day. I vetoed.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:38 (twenty years ago)

and meat is certainly not the focus.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Greengold Acres Chicken Breast, new potatoes, crisp skin and wild honey 15

Holy shit it's chicken and potatoes! I'm trying to imagine who orders this. Like if grandpa gets dragged along and starts bitching about "What kind of restaurant IS this? I wanted steak! I didn't fight in two wars to eat sprouts!" etc., you can say, "Look! Chicken and potatoes." And he'll order it and hopefully shut up about what kind of goddamn fruity place is this.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, there's nothing over $15 -- are they small plates?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Really, though, there's no restaurant out side of KFC where you can order the chicken and justify it. The chef won't respect you.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Vegetables are cheap

xpost not true

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

From an older menu:

Rushing Waters Trout with Cauliflower Puree, Baby Leeks and fennel broth 13.00

Gunthorpe Farm Chicken Breast roasted fingerling potatoes, crisp skin and wild honey 15.00

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

their menu is a "tasting" menu, so they recommend that you pick a few things here & there to try. i think it's divided into sections, but i can't recall what they are. maybe it's something simple like 'cold' and 'hot.' anyway, small-ish plates, yes.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

That makes more sense, then, Kels.

Kenan, what on earth are you talking about? What's wrong with ordering chicken? Are you saying it's too "common"?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)
