My meltish former Labour local MP has unfollowed me for slagging off Starmer so much, but I've gained the much superior former Colne Valley MP, Thelma Walker as a follower. She's one of them who has quit the party over Corbyn's treatment and can't fucking stand him.

it seems insane now that approximately 11 months I donated money that I couldn't really afford to the Labour Party and now I'd rather lick shit off the pavement than even vote for them!

Just left the most shambolic Leeds North West CLP meeting where a motion of no confidence in Keir Starmer and Dave Evans could not be tabled essentially due to filibustering as people ran down the clock until the meeting had to end - a ridiculous and undemocratic stitch up.

if i was intrerested i would probably suggest that its an opportunity for the left to create caucuses and pool resources to literally buy platforms within the party/access to the leadership and then constantly draw attention to how disgusting it is while also platforming key issues. I realise there are huge problems with this but it would be fun to have wealthy donors having to sit at a table with a pissed off nurse or housing campaigner making a huge stink all night about how cronyish this new model is.

Corbyn had his moments as well, clicking like on the anti-Semitic mural was a damning one that still haunts him. I just feel like the reaction to this will be entirely different and have a much shorter life in the news cycle (if it even gets mentioned in it). And rather than a load of crank adjacent twitter lefties defending him, Kieth will have whole sections of the media and just about all of the PLP unconvincingly dismissing this as no biggie.

while it's disconcerting that starmer has clearly thought to himself - I cannot have a "bigoted woman" moment - and that has hamstrung him in his response., it's perhaps even more disconcerting that he likely thought to himself "this is a red wall labour voter type" when hearing this kind of rhetoric when it was an actual fascist, and that this wasn't immediately clear to him because the kind of rhetoric is so widespread in the uk

this party’s takeaway from bigotgate was that racism should never ever be called out, except for factional reasons, and nothing in the last decade has changed their position

also the party is just racist, always has been. it prefers its racism to be expressed through proxies for plausible deniability but it’s more than eager to stoke the flames
