New York and California haven't even finished counting yet, so we really just don't know who won.

jfc people don't waste a single second of your lives worrying about the disenfranchisement of these fucking fascist scumbags who just spent the last month trying to legally disenfranchise millions of largely black and POC voters in PA and Michigan

Even the ppl who physically went out and protested the vote counting while getting whipped into a frenzy by Alex Jones got bored after a day or 2. These choads are so not worth stressing out about.

No. Succumb? Capitulate? Nothing I said was remotely like that. Simmer down.

Everything you said was exactly that.

The original comment was that laughing at people boycotting a general election was "antidemocratic". This was later expanded as a concern that if enough people boycott the election, it will be seen as illegitimate. I asked, "by whom, because it wouldn't be the courts" and was given a link to a Wikipedia article that reinforced my point, which is that insane people removing themselves from the election process leads to sane elections. You then responded "but there are a lot of insane people out there, it's not far-fetched to think they might do something even more insane". If you were not interjecting this as a counterpoint to the expansion upon the argument that it is neither antidemocratic nor in our best interests to solicit the participation of obviously insane people in our elections, why did you say it? What are you adding to the conversation?

jfc people don't waste a single second of your lives worrying about the disenfranchisement of these fucking fascist scumbags who just spent the last month trying to legally disenfranchise millions of largely black and POC voters in PA and Michigan

particularly when the noise these people are making is how they want to disenfranchise themselves

like, if they must disenfranchise someone, that's literally the only acceptable population

DJP, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 17:52 (five years ago)

PARTICULARLY since they are choosing to remove themselves (if, in fact, they choose not to participate, which I will believe when it happens)

Yes, this declaration has the air of a seven-year-old threatening to run away and never come home again.

I def think a good chunk of the "non regular voters" who voted Trump are going to fade back into non voting and being less politically involved. I'm sure some minority of them are now politicized but without the central animating figure of Trump they will be dispersed between various movements and cult leaders imo. Of course then there's the much larger chunk of regular republican voters who were overwhelmingly fine with Trump, and they aren't going away.

You know, while I don't know about the craziest of the crazies, I do wonder if the sheer contrast of a President Biden will help with the hearts and minds campaign. That is, after years of relentless incompetence and assholery, America will be reminded of what normal looks like, and what it feels like to have a government that's not counter-productively working against itself (in turn hurting the people it's in place to help). After a couple of years of that, if not a couple of months, it's hard to imagine a cry for a return to relentless incompetence and assholery. "Boo, I liked the guy that took government planes on a vacation better! Boo! Bring back the woman that cut all those funds that helped sexual assault victims! Boo! Booooooo! You might get more respect for and better treatment of veterans from this new guy, but I still say fuck the veterans! Boooo!"

I could respond to your post at length, but disentangling what I said from your constructions on what I said wouldn't satisfy you that your conclusions are not fully justified, even if I could show you where you have made long leaps across large gaps between the two. I'll leave it at that.

DJP, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 18:45 (five years ago)

some people might go back to political sleep, but most of us weren't really asleep prior to that. I remember Obama's second term being fairly miserable, with the fiscal cliff bullshit, Hobby Lobby ruling, the Kim Davis cause célèbre, the Bundy clan, Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Michael Brown, Dylann Roof, Boston Marathon Bombing, Sandy Hook, Pulse (and other terror attacks), the James O'Keefe Planned Parenthood fiasco that GOP House/Senate legitimized by holding hearings...definitely felt like the country was getting uglier and at times, we only had Obama's veto to stem the tide. and his oft-naive desire to avoid appearing partisan allowed a lot of it to happen anyway.

It'll be a fun race between GOP critiques of Biden as a socialist puppet to the AOC commie gay agenda, vs. left critiques of Biden as the corporate-bought cop-loving war criminal who is going to shoot us all in the leg.

I stopped checking on Asshole's approval ratings after the election, but I am mildly astonished to see that the latest Rasmussen covering Nov 21-23 has him at 48% approval. So 48% of their respondents thought he was doing *a good job as president* in that period. I wonder, if challenged, if any of them could name or describe a single thing he has done as president apart from the turkey pardon and whingeing about the election.

It occurs to me just now that if he'd stuck to this regimen for the past four years he likely would've coasted to victory this year.

The Rubios and Cruzes who are going to spend their lives trying to capture Trump’s Twitter voice are going to forever butt up against epic own #resistance bros.

Of course he’s his own worst enemy. Trump could’ve likely walked this election if he had a modicum of sense and self control. Just stfu and hire semi-competent people and mug for the people like 1/10 of the time.
