lol all the clues would be like "Britney Spears' children" and the answer would be "What are the creatures who are growing in the pile of potato chip wrappers and discarded g-strings behind her house?"

I've been on the verge of cry-laughing about this for about fifteen minutes now.

"Daily Double Jack, what's it gonna be?"

I'll wager $200, Neil.

"You're betting $200? 200. Jack here says $200. On the last Daily Double.
Jack, you're down about 4k and we're in the home stretch here. You're supposed to be the fellow with the big brains; why not use that CASIO CALCULATORRRRR WATCH I'm sure mommy got you for Christmas and DO THE MATH you HAVE to do to MAKE A MAN'S WAGER. Now WHAT'S IT GONNA BE."

three weeks pass...

he's a good player but i have an irrational hate for Brayden. part of it is that i don't want him to be trebek's last champion.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 December 2020 19:43 (three years ago) link

Intern for a libertarian think tank, go ahead and feel justified. Right there with you on the final champion thing.

Trebek's final week was meant to be starting today, with repeats to follow for two weeks before the (first) Ken Jennings fill-in run starts, but they've pulled the Best Of Trebek run up to start today.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 December 2020 20:16 (three years ago) link

aw i like how excited alex is about his streak, hitting every daily double, etc

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Monday, 21 December 2020 20:19 (three years ago) link

libertarian think tank ugh, but there've been so many underwhelming winners lately, which i assume is partly because they had to restrict the contestant pool to people within close driving range, so if alex gets to make with his exit with some legit jeop-worthy talent in the house, i'm happy for him.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 21 December 2020 22:22 (three years ago) link

the right way for alex to leave is with a one day champion imo

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 December 2020 22:55 (three years ago) link

So, uh, took longer than most but apparently old Ken Jennings tweets were dug up? Haven’t seen the tweets in question, but I read his... apology that seems to not be great.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 31 December 2020 03:55 (three years ago) link

those tweets get dug up every time he's on TV

frogbs, Thursday, 31 December 2020 03:58 (three years ago) link

I honestly hadn’t heard about them before, this time they seem be getting a ton of traction and looks like it’ll cost him the full time hosting gig.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 31 December 2020 03:59 (three years ago) link

actually it looks like this is the one trending?

Ken Jennings is getting dragged for this? Really? Lol he’s 100% correct though. pic.twitter.com/oT9zrQpBPQ

— Justin (@imjustinsanders) December 31, 2020

frogbs, Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:03 (three years ago) link

If that’s truly it, I’m baffled by some of the tweets I’m seeing calling him out for his shitty apology. Hint: it’s not just Republicans.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:06 (three years ago) link

that's the one that's been trending lately, it looks like a lot of conservative sites are piling on him for that

obviously there are a few pretty distasteful tweets in his past but idk if they're much worse than say anything on a random episode of Curb

frogbs, Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:07 (three years ago) link

the one that pops up here: https://ew.com/tv/ken-jennings-apologizes-insensitive-tweets-jokes/
is:

Nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:11 (three years ago) link

dumb joke, his reason for leaving them up makes sense, he should delete everything older than a month now just in case

shivers me timber (sic), Thursday, 31 December 2020 04:25 (three years ago) link

they’ll still get found. that was a tasteless tweet but I doubt his job is in jeopardy

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 December 2020 13:44 (three years ago) link

you see that sentence works even if he ends up not keeping the gig

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 December 2020 13:46 (three years ago) link

pretty highly doubt ABC or whoever runs jeopardy feels like lighting money on fire over that joke tho, insensitive as it was

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 December 2020 13:47 (three years ago) link

if nothing else i cant imagine that the core jeopardy audience is online enough to care about bad tweets

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 31 December 2020 14:04 (three years ago) link

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 7 January 2021 17:52 (three years ago) link

So glad that Brayden lost the other night. He was acting like a dick, too. Alex was reading off the Double Jeopardy categories, and one category was the setup to the next category's punchline. Brayden read the punchline before Alex did, and Alex said, "But it's not your turn to choose on Double Jeopardy, Brayden, it's Molly's turn." He sounded like he was explaining to a toddler why he couldn't have infinite cookies. It was pretty great.

lol i kinda liked brayden but yeah he was getting really mouthy. i swear i heard him start to say an answer when someone else buzzed in

Austin Rogers streak is on netflix right now. so good

flopson, Thursday, 7 January 2021 19:47 (three years ago) link

i would normally be pissed about you "spoiling" a loss but i was deeply worried that brayden would be the final champion with alex and tied to him forever so that's such a fucking blessing i don't care.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Friday, 8 January 2021 01:02 (three years ago) link

Iirc the woman who beat Austin swept the very 1st category. Right after she did I figured this must be the game he loses. He also blew at least one true daily double. There was a dolly Parton category and she was from TN. RIGGED! She was really good tho!

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 8 January 2021 01:07 (three years ago) link

i am previously on the record in this thread as rooting for brayden to keep winning so alex could go out with a legit champion, but i just watched this...

Alex was reading off the Double Jeopardy categories, and one category was the setup to the next category's punchline. Brayden read the punchline before Alex did

...and jfc the dude should've been impeached on the spot and carried out in handcuffs.

Forgive the thread spam, but I wanted to note that Jeopardy's 2020 season is nominated in the 2020 ILX TV poll:

ILX's Best Television of 2020 Poll / VOTING AND CAMPAIGNING THREAD / Voting Ends After January 29, 2021

If you like this show and you'd like to see it have a good showing in the poll (running in February) all you need to do is submit a ballot including it and your other favorites (3 minimum, 25 maximum, ranked by your favorite to least favorite) to forksclovetofu at gmail. It'll take five minutes; get to it!
