If it were as simple as firing that GSA person and hiring a new person to reverse her decision, then what would be the point of the position in the first place?

re: "Trump fears Giuliani, other lawyers in Biden vote challenge are ‘fools that are making him look bad": It dawned on me sometime last week that Trump actually believes this shit, that the election was stolen, and that his lawyers would prevail. I really thought he was just bluffing and doing a power grab.

NEW: GSA has informed president-elect Joe Biden the administration is ready to begin the formal transition process, according to a letter from administrator Emily Murphy sent Monday afternoon and obtained by CNN.

I think he believes that when he loses it can only be due to some inherent unfairness. What he literally believes about fraud is hard to say but I think he he believes that.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 23 November 2020 23:05 (five years ago)

I really thought he was just bluffing and doing a power grab.

He's really doing a power grab, but he truly believed that it would be possible to 'win' the election through canny legal maneuvering because he's been manipulating the legal system for personal benefit all his life. I'm sure he believes that if he just had the best lawyers on his side, and with all the judges he's appointed (who he presumes are as crooked as a dog's hind leg), it would all fall into place for him again. He will believe this to his dying day.

tbf, if the election had been as close as 2000, that belief would have some validity.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 23 November 2020 23:13 (five years ago)

And yeah, clearly his whole 'we'll take it to the Supreme Court!' deal is a core belief that 'his' justices will rule for him. Which, no. They still haven't even said they'll look at that case involving the post-Election Day absentee votes from PA.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 23 November 2020 23:14 (five years ago)

He will believe this to his dying day. Which cannot come soon enough.

We'll probably never know if a serial liar believes his own lies, or if it's all an elaborate bluff/con to never show weakness or back down no matter what. It can be either, or both, I'm fucking sick of trying to peer into his diseased orange brain and I just want him to die.

Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Monday, 23 November 2020 23:17 (five years ago)

Just a gentle reminder that Emily Murphy is indeed a partisan-hack-Trump-lackey and her letter is total bullshit.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 23 November 2020 23:20 (five years ago)

Gee, whose legal advice did she seek in determining how to interpret the law as she did? The Department of Justice? Internal GSA lawyers? Be interesting to know what her interpretation was based on.

The Solace of Fortitude (Aimless), Monday, 23 November 2020 23:23 (five years ago)

I do not think that an agency charged with improving federal procurement and property management should place itself above the constitutionally-based election process. I strongly urge Congress to consider amendments to the Act.

...change it so that her successor *can* determine who the winner of the election is, regardless of how many lawsuits are filed or dismissed or withdrawn?

it becomes much less humorous when you realize that it means he'll continue to get revenge by ignoring the coronavirus pandemic and getting revenge on undeserving people though.

Dan Bongino running for President would be, uhh...something. he is worse than Trump politically and just as insane but dude would have trouble appealing to indie voters, and...well...probably many Republican voters.

but if you throw out a crowded 10-15 people field again and make no attempt to consolidate the field, it could easily happen.

I...don't think he knew about it.

Some White House staffers were initially caught off guard by the General Services Administration's letter, learning about it first from CNN, a senior White House official said.

But the official said staffers will begin to cooperate with Joe Biden's transition team.

The official added they were seeking more information on next steps.

Wondering if McConnell gave Trump his support to delay conceding, and worked behind the scenes to keep the GOP senators quiet, because it gave him a fig leaf to break tradition and continue confirming judges during the lame duck period. “Ongoing litigation”, unclear election outcome and all that. He likes to be able to explain away his unprecedented power plays based on technicalities (see also the hypocrisy around SC confirmations and how it really somehow makes all the difference if the Senate and Presidency are held by the same party).

I mean, there was that...interesting meeting between him and Barr two Mondays back. Later that day Barr did his 'uh yeah if there's fraud' order. And then he proceeded to completely disappear.
