Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 14:01 (five years ago)

Is there a thread where you're not depressed you're just totally fucked but it doesn't matter because you've got nothing to say anyway? Is this it? Hi. I have nothing to say.

Clean-up on ILX (onimo), Friday, 27 November 2020 14:04 (five years ago)

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 14:05 (five years ago)

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 14:06 (five years ago)

hi NV

tonight I am going out to break the law and sit miles away from a couple of friends in a freezing garden because everyone feels sorry for me

I will drink and do the brave face

Clean-up on ILX (onimo), Friday, 27 November 2020 14:11 (five years ago)

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 14:17 (five years ago)

I finished work early today and watched Patriot Games because I couldn't be arsed changing the channel. Absolute garbage.

Got me thinking though how many films there are where, no matter how big or wide or ambitious the theme or plot is, it often comes down to two guys knocking lumps out of each other at the end.

Like spy films are all really just Rocky 3.

This is probably more of a rejected thread idea than whatever it started being.

Clear and Present Danger is on next, in which Jack Ryan brings down a Colombian drug cartel with a right cross to Ivan Drago's temple.

Clean-up on ILX (onimo), Friday, 27 November 2020 15:24 (five years ago)

nah when i'm being mean about superhero movies i reduce it to lads in costumes punching each other

a lot of mean is bullshit but also true but also bullshit

mood is a total thing for movies or music or any art really

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 15:39 (five years ago)

I’m watching Reality Bites, which I’ve never seen before. Strange to feel too old watching something I was too young for in the first place. Also, Rock & Roll pt 2 plays for an uncomfortably long time at the start!

scampus fugit (gyac), Friday, 27 November 2020 15:46 (five years ago)

one of the most magnificent, sublime, monumental, extraordinary scenes in cinema history

Gab B. Nebsit (wins), Friday, 27 November 2020 15:51 (five years ago)

My Sharona!

scampus fugit (gyac), Friday, 27 November 2020 15:55 (five years ago)

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 15:55 (five years ago)

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 15:56 (five years ago)

I still proper fancy Winona

calzino, Friday, 27 November 2020 16:05 (five years ago)

She’s gorgeous in this and I have always thought this (what an uncommon view I know!) “I ride my own melt” made me giggle

scampus fugit (gyac), Friday, 27 November 2020 16:08 (five years ago)

Janeane tho

forever

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 16:10 (five years ago)

sorry 4 heteronormativity

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 16:10 (five years ago)

When she popped up in some so so HBO series a few years back I was thinking wowswers .. she's still got it and more! apologies!

calzino, Friday, 27 November 2020 16:13 (five years ago)

Janeane tho

forever

The women are far far better than the men in this, have never liked Ethan Hawke much tbh apart from in Before Sunrise, etc.

scampus fugit (gyac), Friday, 27 November 2020 16:14 (five years ago)

Got me thinking though how many films there are where, no matter how big or wide or ambitious the theme or plot is, it often comes down to two guys knocking lumps out of each other at the end.

JJ Abrams is fucking rotten for this - Spock and Khan in the second Star Wars, and also Mission Impossible III - which fair enough you'd expect some of it, but it's between Tom Cruise and Philip Seymour Hoffman!

I keep meaning to rewatch A Scanner Darkly, relevant for presence of Winona and surprising absence of Ethan Hawke (and unsurprising absence of knock-down drag-out fight at the end).

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 27 November 2020 18:26 (five years ago)

Spock and Khan in the second Star Wars

Ahem

Robert Gotopieces (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 27 November 2020 18:28 (five years ago)

everybody knows the first rule of big screenwriting is the world hangs on how hard two cis white dudes can punch each other

Bandscamp Fryday (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 November 2020 18:31 (five years ago)

End of John Wick 1 also particularly pointless example

spruce springclean (darraghmac), Friday, 27 November 2020 18:31 (five years ago)

Rocky IV is the Cold War one, III is mr t and the hulkster

Gab B. Nebsit (wins), Friday, 27 November 2020 18:33 (five years ago)

I know - I used Rocky 3 then added Drago for the next Ryan film.

I get it was strained to begin with. Should have gone with Apollo and built up from there.

Clean-up on ILX (onimo), Friday, 27 November 2020 18:39 (five years ago)

Yeah don’t start with lang. I had the Rocky game for the master system so I know what I’m talking about

Gab B. Nebsit (wins), Friday, 27 November 2020 18:49 (five years ago)

calstars, Friday, 27 November 2020 19:05 (five years ago)

I am too many beers deep. Working hard to maintain the distance even though I want to hold my friends close.

I love the language of old friends. How we all interrupt and laugh before we get near the end of a story we all know.

Good to feel normal. Tomorrow will hurt but today is good.

Clean-up on ILX (onimo), Friday, 27 November 2020 22:52 (five years ago)

Keep it together, stay afloat

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 22:36 (five years ago)

I've had a really shit day that was an endurance test to say the least and came quite close to committing abh on my garbage neighbour who was shouting violent threats through the wall at my partner, who has bruises on her arm after my son attacked her whilst having a noisy meltdown while I was out for 10 minutes. That kind of shit day. But I do actually quite enjoy life, even the kind of reduced one I currently live and don't really suffer from clinical depression tbh and in some ways I live quite a charmed existence compared to some. But I did shout some violent threats back at the cunt that I will break his legs with my lump hammer if he ever pisses me off again, which is not behaviour that is conducive to a general feeling of happiness tbqh! Just an approximate fuck all of humanity blues is what I'm feeling today. But I do feel much better now.

calzino, Wednesday, 2 December 2020 22:27 (five years ago)

i'm glad you got it out of your system

here's a long stupid blogpost about whether "Kieth" is a slur

Uptown Top Scamping (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 2 December 2020 22:32 (five years ago)

omg that really is becoming a thing

calzino, Wednesday, 2 December 2020 22:35 (five years ago)

it's a playground smash

Uptown Top Scamping (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 2 December 2020 22:37 (five years ago)

Hope you and the family stay safe from neighbourly threats calz

That stuff would really worry me as I've never really grown out of ESCALATION in those situations

Clean-up on ILX (onimo), Wednesday, 2 December 2020 23:17 (five years ago)

I know it's very hard to be calm and reasoned sometimes, even when you know you should rise above the situation and you are clever enough to know nothing good will come from acting acting as bad as the dickheads you are dealing with.

calzino, Wednesday, 2 December 2020 23:25 (five years ago)

Counting wasted time this morning. Like I shouldn't regret a minute of GTA in my whole life because I love it but it's a lot of fucking minutes and I think I spent a fair few of them looking for pigeons.

I'm going to count all that I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here time as quality time binding with the children.

Watching Gordon Ramsay bullying bad chefs into worse chefs I need to write off.

So many shite books.
