I've been wondering if Biden might be privately talking to some of these turds. Graham may be a snake, but he's been Biden's buddy in the past, and Mitch hasn't said shit, but apparently he and Biden had a good working relationship. It would certainly be weird if Biden *wasn't* privately reaching out to them, imo.

There's been some idle chatter from the otherwise pretty darn quiet Biden team that there's been some backchannel stuff -- Mitch wasn't mentioned, but that, too, could be strategic.

they gonna poison Trump's Big Mac?

Of course they're talking, they're all buddies.

Alberta's plugged in and I have no doubt about this

Just FYI, after 48 hours of high-level conversations with Michigan Rs & Ds, it's clear the results will stand. Joe Biden will receive the state's 16 electoral votes. There is no alternative under MI statute. This Trump/Michigan GOP meeting is a sideshow on par w/ Rudy's presser.

this is why I wanted Trump to die of COVID

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 17:13 (five years ago)

I have no doubt about it either, to be clear. but the fact that this visit was allowed to be set up with zero noise from the GOP and, frankly, way too little noise from Democrats, is pissing me off.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 17:13 (five years ago)

to Biden's credit, he and his lawyers have been attacking Trump's actions on a daily basis

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 17:14 (five years ago)

On another note, how's that "demand letter" the Dems sent to Emily Murphy going so far? I assume she showed up first thing this morning to testify openly and honestly right? We just haven't heard because she is still sharing so much info that there simply hasn't been a moment to report anything, right?

They should ask her again.

"Hi, it's the Democrats calling again. Just wanted to make sure you got our previous message and that it didn't get lost in the shuffle. Anyway, just following up. Hope you're doing well. Touch base soon."

Haha that was my first question too. I don't really get the sleeves.

Not gonna be cap'n save-a-murphy but.

Game it out. If she signs the ascertaining thingy without the president's ok, she's immediately fired and the ascertaining thingy is immediately rescinded. A zillion howling MAGAheads descend on her house with pitchforks. GSA gets an "acting" head under strict instructions not to get out ahead of the President, or else.

This would accomplish... what?

coupvfefe (Ye Mad Puffin), Friday, 20 November 2020 17:29 (five years ago)

wish there was a way to properly price the public resources that have gone into perpetuating this boondoggle. and in the future every single time a Republican whines about Sesame Street or, you know, fixing a fucking bridge that’s 10 years past it’s est fail date, you just quote this figure to them and suggest they (parody) themselves.

like I know it’s probably a rounding error wrt to the total fed budget, but those kinds of numbers never stopped GOP/ conservative media/ “think” tanks in the past. like that was their whole shtick for 30+ years and ppl (the Dems as much as anyone) actually took it seriously.

I think this is an extrapolation too far.

It would accomplish her doing the right thing for the good of the country, but I know we are way past that even being a consideration for anyone in this administration.

President Donald Trump’s increasingly ridiculous attempts to sow doubt about the election result are almost entirely motivated by petty revenge for the Russia investigation, according to a report from CNN. An unnamed source said to be familiar with the president’s thinking told the network that, because some Democrats questioned the legitimacy of his own election victory in 2016, Trump is now trying to do the same...

So he's just playing around.. they drew first blood after all.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 20 November 2020 17:39 (five years ago)

Many xps but I agree with jon via chi in that I most definitely care what happens to Trump post presidency, because I care about the impact he can have on a Biden presidency, even from the sidelines, and I care about whether or not he is able to continue stoking the resistance fires and the violence, and I care about whether he is able to spend the next 4 years running for 2024. I want him out of the equation as much as possible, so while I want him to be punished, I also want it to not be dominating the news forever. But I’ll take punishment which dominates the news over no punishment.

epistantophus, Friday, 20 November 2020 17:39 (five years ago)

Also, looking at cnn’s top story, I want to say that the headline “Some alarmed GOP senators reconsider their silence” is just about the funniest shit ever. Fuck them, it’s much too late for that. Stay silent.

epistantophus, Friday, 20 November 2020 17:46 (five years ago)

feel like Trump getting off scot-free - which I entirely expect to happen - is gonna be really bad for our country and our political system. already we see Lindsay Graham committing felonies in broad daylight which is not something I think would've happened pre-Trump.

frogbs, Friday, 20 November 2020 17:46 (five years ago)

I don't like Graham's dress sense either but it seems harsh to call it a felony

DJP, Friday, 20 November 2020 17:56 (five years ago)

Also from that MI/MN twitter thread:

Trump campaign attorney Sidney Powell just said that Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez rigged the 2020 election.

Hugo Chavez died in 2013.

Ghost of Chavez a bandname yet?

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 18:31 (five years ago)

Chavez faked his death, and is currently hiding out in Obama's kiteboarding lair in Bermuda.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:32 (five years ago)

The Chavez thing has to do with do with voting software that was used in Venezuelan elections while Chavez was still around. The claim that Giuliani and Powell are making is that Dominion voting machines used this software, even though there's no actual evidence of this, nor any evidence that the software was actually responsible for rigging elections in Venezuela.

jaymc, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:39 (five years ago)

Wait, now GA is *not* certified again?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 20 November 2020 19:06 (five years ago)

Huh?

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 19:13 (five years ago)

Earlier announcement of certification was apparently "a staffer who sent out the wrong press release."

peace, man, Friday, 20 November 2020 19:14 (five years ago)

Seems more like the press release got too ahead

according to Brendan Keefe "Well this just got more interesting. Gov. Kemp has called a news conference at the exact moment certification by the Sec of State is required. He does have a role, under state law he 'shall' certify the results by tomorrow." 5 pm

Dan S, Friday, 20 November 2020 19:15 (five years ago)

Update: Georgia's Secretary of State office has corrected itself and now says the vote results WILL be certified, but it seems the certification might not have happened yet and their press release jumped the gun.

makes sense

howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Friday, 20 November 2020 19:19 (five years ago)

Speaking at a news conference on Friday morning, Raffensperger called himself a “proud Trump supporter” and acknowledged his disappointment in the president’s defeat, but reiterated his confidence in the vote count and vowed to certify the results of the election...

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 20 November 2020 19:19 (five years ago)

I understand his nervousness, but i think he's a bit quick to connect dots

It's entirely possible that Gov. Kemp will announce that the Secretary of State has certified and he has added his certification as required by law. The events of the last few hours do not lend confidence to that possibility, yet it remains.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 19:31 (five years ago)

it could be possible that he wants to address the hand recount and point out they fired the people who didn't upload the 5,000 some odd votes from memory card and give Trump a little boost to his conspiracy-mongering without actually doing something crazy like refusing to certify.

idk. i am going to put my head down and work for a bit. but chances are, Ratthenberger would be leaking like a motherfucker if something was about to go down.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 19:35 (five years ago)

the other thing is Trump legally has 48 hours to request a machine recount, so...maybe something to do with that too idk

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 19:36 (five years ago)

It doesn’t sound to me like the law gives the governor discretion as to whether or not to certify the results. Plus also, surely those Senate seats are more on Kemp’s mind than trying to perpetuate Trump’s lies. Trying to overturn the election results seems like it would just galvanize Democratic voters more.

But honestly who knows.

yeah, the legislation just says he 'shall' sign it, not that he 'can' sign it.

is everybody enjoying this two month election?

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Friday, 20 November 2020 19:39 (five years ago)

(Keeping in mind of course that Kemp is proven by science to be a terrible person and total ratfucker)

Haven't Trump assholes already made hay of the shall vs can vs will distinction? Mnuchin and Trump's taxes?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 20 November 2020 19:40 (five years ago)

This sort of suspense attests to the bullshit of Twitter.

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 20 November 2020 19:40 (five years ago)

totally.

I've told the story before elsewhere but I once saw a shit-ton of UCF students freaking out that Meek Mill was bailing on their Homecoming concert, where he was supposed to open for Tyga, because he referenced a show in Miami hew as doing later that day (that he was helicoptering to).

I told everybody they were being ridiculous and they ganged up on me.

Joke was on them - he did perform that night and he was terrible.

try to remember what the world was like when we didn't have an army of amateur forensicists updating us on the meaning of every 30-minute delay, misplaced word and eye twitch in real time.

lol...he was supporting that album and the tracks he performed over didn't have vocals removed and he only rapped a third of each lyric before abandoning each song midway through.
