Ridiculous

🚨BREAKING: Plaintiffs DISMISS Wisconsin lawsuit claiming election officials included illegal results in certain counties and seeking to to stop the certification of election results from these counties.

Trump and allies are now 1-24 in court.https://t.co/hyZPz3wW6A

— Marc E. Elias (@marceelias) November 16, 2020

Wow, the lawyers who filed that case voluntarily dismissed their complaint on the MORNING of oral arguments.

Live-tweet canceled. Case dismissed.https://t.co/0Ys3j9tG2F

— Adam Klasfeld (@KlasfeldReports) November 16, 2020

This is beyond performative, this is just stupid.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 November 2020 17:20 (five years ago)

Vexatious, abusive lawsuits often survive and even thrive. The swift, conclusive failure of such a large number of Trump lawsuits is an outlier. Trump’s lawyers lack the savvy or staying power of the most marginal pro se litigant. Kool-aid is not the drink of legal champions.

A Trump lawsuit in three parts:

1. We PROMISE we will find evidence

2. Where is the evidence?

3. Ok we're dismissing

BTW this applies to the questions upthread re if any of these useless lawyers can suffer consequences:

Here's the text of Rule 11.

These lawyers promised these suits were legitimate and that they believed evidence would arrive to support those suits. They probably were not being truthful. pic.twitter.com/B7MO4KHD3K

Save us, Ivanka, you're our only hope. You fought with my father in the clone wars.

Cue the speculation that she intends to run in his stead next time, blah blah blah ;lwakjre;oiwhg don't care.

I was wondering what would happen if he just refused to pack up and leave.

The Presidency is a role, not a building. Leave him in place surrounded by rotting hamberders, I don't care. The new President can work from any number of buildings. Truman used Blair House during WH renovations; we will still have Camp David etc. The whole thing is stupid.

coupvfefe (Ye Mad Puffin), Monday, 16 November 2020 17:32 (five years ago)

Really the biggest obstacle is that idiot Emily Murphy of the GSA right now. Biden should file suit soon.

Like the idea of "wait til the lawsuits play out" is such bullshit. He can keep filing them and filing them all the way out to Dec 14, to prevent them from ever being settled

No mention here yet of Sidney Powell? MAGAworld seems to think she's got the goods to overturn the election!

This, exactly, but at the same time it would be so fucking stupid to just give up the White House to him because he is stubborn and pouty. Which means there is a 65% chance of this actually happen.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 16 November 2020 17:42 (five years ago)

Sidney Powell is just Rudy with better hair. She knows exactly as much as he does.

Which is that Trump only wants fIghTing fiGhtErs wHo fiGHt, and they are willing to step into that role.

Meanwhile, the real lawyers are noping out, because they can see there's nothing probitive there. But what Trump wants to happen is for his partisans to see that he is FIGHTING, and therefore conclude that it's not over, so that they hang on to ever-more-desperate doses of hopium.

The endgame for Powell and Giuliani is "well, at least we tried to save the republic, unlike those eeyore pansies who gave up early."

MAGAnauts will go to their graves believing Trump won but it was stolen by Dominion and by corrupt Dem judges, and by Roberts stabbing him in the back by not taking up the case and reversing the results. Sad!

coupvfefe (Ye Mad Puffin), Monday, 16 November 2020 17:50 (five years ago)

Saw a kook arguing that Biden wrote the bill to make student loans non-dischargeable just so he'd have that as a tool to exploit later with forgiveness.

That is the ultimate 12D chess and if you believe your opponent is that crafty you should probably get on their team.

Kinda quietly interesting. Are they just not taking up either of these cases at all or are they trying to kill them out by refusing?

A quiet orders list from the Supreme Court this morning. No new cases added to the docket, and no action on pending requests seeking the court's intervention on Pennsylvania mail-in ballots and on a Manhattan grand jury's subpoena for Trump's tax records. https://t.co/CZG8oNdw5M

That Sisters of Mercy dude looks an awful lot like Justin T in the Dick in a Box short.

BrianB, Monday, 16 November 2020 18:59 (five years ago)

From his wikipedia page-

Speculation about a new Sisters of Mercy album release was renewed in November 2016 when Eldritch was quoted by TeamRock website: "I can tell you one thing: If Donald Trump actually does become President, that will be reason enough for me to release another album. I don't think I could keep quiet if that happened."[7] As of October 2020, no new album has been released.

Honestly I would love to hear a new SoM album fueled by anger at the Trump era and the rise of neofascism.

epistantophus, Monday, 16 November 2020 19:20 (five years ago)

Considering he's got quite a few songs out there that have never been formally released, it would be nice.

yes. I believe they are very much alike and equally pointless.

imo all that matters in US politics from now to mid-December is whether a stimulus bill gets put together that passes the House and Senate. I see no indication of this happening, but it matters much more than Trump does now.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Monday, 16 November 2020 19:51 (five years ago)

Maybe too much to hope for, but it's possible Trump's pathetic Twitter posts are doing more to undermine his support than anything Biden or social media fact-checkers can do. Deluded losers tend to give off a stench after a few weeks.

My dad always hated Trump so he's not the target market, but in that he's a more conservative fellow in general he's a good sounding board, and let me tell you -- he's been more voluble about Trump being a truly pathetic figure since the election happened than I've ever heard him about any other politician under discussion in my lifetime. Just a pure disgust.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 November 2020 20:43 (five years ago)

I just don't see the whining turning off any worthwhile chunk of the deluded MAGAts at this point. They genuinely believe the election has been stolen and that Trump is 100% justified in his whining.

I can tell the Biden admin doesn't want to sue because they believe it will eventually happen anyway and they don't want to create the impression that they sued their way to victory but who the fuck cares? the right is doing exactly that right now and they're gonna believe the election was stolen, regardless.

there were assholes who thought the Obama election was stolen in 2012 ffs.

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Monday, 16 November 2020 21:00 (five years ago)

It seems to me that there's at least a small chance that, if they're ready to go while he's still in office, Trump could just spitefully have all the COVID vaccinations routed to some warehouse or perhaps a reservoir and let them spoil. That'll show us little SOBs.

You will notice a small sink where your sofa once was. (Old Lunch), Monday, 16 November 2020 21:16 (five years ago)

It seems that if anyone is prepared to take over the presidency with a minimum of transition fuss it's a career politician who was already VP for 8 years.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 16 November 2020 21:19 (five years ago)

Some are casting a wide net, such as hiring television agents and speaking with various law firms.

I love how the first career change choice involves hiring a TV agent and not, say, learning coding.

This, exactly, but at the same time it would be so fucking stupid to just give up the White House to him because he is stubborn and pouty. Which means there is a 65% chance of this actually happen.

The genuinely funny part of this outcome would be all the White House staff leaving on Jan 20th, and the big boy wandering around the halls with no-one around but Bill Stepien, trying to figure out how to turn the contents of a series of catering-sized fridges into meals.

"I can tell you one thing: If Donald Trump actually does become President, that will be reason enough for me to release another album. I don't think I could keep quiet if that happened."

Sad to see that Eldritch wavered in self-belief for a minute, but at least he recovered fully.

I just don't see the whining turning off any worthwhile chunk of the deluded MAGAts at this point. They genuinely believe the election has been stolen and that Trump is 100% justified in his whining.

Deluded MAGAts are a fairly small minority of his voters (see 5,000 people showing up to the Million MAGA March on Saturday. Most of them will have been people who simply do not think about politics much, and don't follow news media or the president's tweets feverishly. Many of these folks who assumed Whoever The President Is was doing a good job, will absolutely be able to see that the non-president guy screaming about everyone in the world being unfair to him is a big crybaby loser, if they happen to notice that he's screaming. Not many people have paid attention to GWB's career as a portrait painter.

A big chunk also will have been Fox voters, not Trump voters, and while on-air anchors might be riding the Stop The Steal train, Rupert's own care obviously evaporated the second his independent decision desk called Arizona.

(His main influence in the US being cable news, not actual reporting journalism that requires people to translate type into brainworms, makes for a different genus of worm. That audience will be ready to stop caring about Trump, at all, as soon as they're told who to be mad at next. It's very unlikely that there will be a figure they can be induced to rally behind, rather than against, during The Melting Candle's remaining lifespan.)
