I maintain as I have for some time that, given the gossamer-thin scrim of macho swagger they hide behind, they all just need to be publicly called out as the cowards that they are at every turn. Every goddamn move they make is fear-based. It's embarrassing. I'm embarrassed for them.

I guess (and again I know this is toeing the line of both-sidesism), but I feel like there is an increasing tendency in American politics to refuse to believe that the other side could have voted the way they did, that there must be a nefarious external force leading to the result.

I think the difference is that liberals DO believe the other side votes the way they do, and that there are in fact large numbers of people who vote that way, and that the effect of the nefarious external forces is to induce them to so vote. I feel like that's fundamentally different.

To give an illustrative local example: We have a Republican county commissioner here who got COVID and ended up in the hospital. At his first meeting back afterward, he gave a fairly long statement about how "this thing is real," how it was the sickest he's ever been in his life, and he personally knows seven people who have been hospitalized with it. And then he said the local health board still shouldn't have the power to enact a mask mandate, because FREEDOM.
